Yeah, I wish Namath were still a broadcast announcer. I loved the way he called games. Not much analysis but boy was it neat to hear Broadway Joe get excited about a big play. Sometimes announcer's over-analyze or are too technical and forget the flair.
What's the matter? You don't like when somebody has a different opinion than yours? It's just my opinion, my gut feeling. I watched his highlights and read some articles on him and that's how I feel. I hope I am wrong, but that's my gut feeling. You never know what kind of a pro a player will become. For example I remember when people were calling Reggie Bush the next Gale Sayers. I don't think his particular career will work out that way. (Not saying McKnight has to be that, just saying I don't see him being a good pro) You don't know how McKnight will turn out and neither do I. Hopefully I am wrong, but that is just my gut feeling.
One would assume that if you have an opinion specific enough to suggest that he's similar to Blaylock, you're basing it on more than just a "gut feeling". Would you care to elaborate? Because, you're right, just trading gut feelings is pointless and gets us nowhere.
Why is it McKnight never gets interviewed? Every time they interview someone on nyjets.com it's either Wilson, Ducasse or Connor...!
Maybe he just consistently runs inside when he's asked for one. Someone posted an article yesterday with quotes from him.
I like hearing things like that. It means the kid cares. I don't think he's going to be overly nervous; he played at USC, already. But the fact that the kid is so anxious he pukes at his first minicamp tells me his heart is right where a rookie's should be: in his throat. Never seen Jamarcus or Vernon toss cookies...
He had another rough day today according to Rex. Nothing to worry about, I think he'll pull it together soon.
The guy has no conditioning, he can't keep up with the rest of the team and if he was an udfa he would already be cut. He not making a very good first impression to say the least.
It's the second day of mini-camp. The kid's out of shape - I'm sure the coaching staff make sure he's fine by training camp.
Sure. The comparison to Blaylock is based on the fact that they have or had similar size, and a very similar running style. They are both slasher type backs. Also that Rex is looking for McKnight to carve a role out on special teams and that Blaylock was a decent special teamer. Blaylock was pretty ineffective for us and I feel like McKnight might not work out. Granted Blaylock wasn't running behind a very good O-line and that he got de-activated for most of the season so I don't know if he ever got a fair shake, but nevertheless he is out of the league already. Kind of feel bad for the guy, I think his wife had a baby and then we started de-activating him. Anyway, that's where the comparison came from. I would love to be wrong, believe me. What makes you think he will be a good pro? I guess a good O-line could help. But what are your other reasons?
I'm sure that is true, but how do you come to rookie camp out of shape didn't he know he had to go to rookie camp? I'm sure he did. Maybe he didn't expect to be drafted? I don't know what the reason would be that an athlete comes camp so out of shape (conditioning) especially an athlete from one of the top college programs in the country. I guess :shit:
First of all, McKnight does not have similar size. Blaylock was, what, 5'8"? It was an entirely different team back then, and the OL issue is a good jumping off point. McKnight isn't just a slasher. He's a great one cut guy who also has the ability to make guys miss at te second level. He's decisive, doesn't stall or stutter. That makes him a great zone runner, and if he adds a bit of bulk and avoids the bizarre injuries he had at USC, he could be phenomenal in our system. Go back and watch video of him, then watch video of TJ. Just focus on the backfield movement on stretch zone runs, and then imagine TJ with the speed and 2nd level cuts of McKnight. It's an absolutely fantastic prospect for this team.
Again, these guys do what they're told between college and the start of minicamps. Everything gets arranged by the agency. I'm guessing he had some bad preparation. Next offseason, the team will insist on having a say in who he works out with.
From everything that I've heard, Pete Carroll didn't exactly run a tight ship at USC. I hear a lot of players are upset with Kiffin right now because he's making them work at practice.
Check out NJ.com, one of the articles posted today about the Jets has a small interview with McKnight. EDIT: Here's the article. First video. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010/05/undrafted_donovan_warren_deter.html
