yes there is a world of difference between the two. Abe is a pro bowler and Penny is not, other than that they are both injury prone.Penny didnt play with his injuries but we expect Abraham to play with his in a contract year? Be real. Penny is not the only jet who gave money to help with the cap.Shaun ellis, coles, curtis Martin and others have done it so , thats a non startet. And why shouldnt Penny give money back, he gets paid to play how many games? each season he is injured , how many games did he play the last three seasons and what is the big deal about him giving some of that"UNEARNED "money back.He is not the first player to do it. I am a fan of the JETS and that means all our players, just because Penny had an awesome first game doesnt mean that he will alwats play that way.The real test comes on sunday. YOU SAY THERE IS A GREAT CHANCE PENNY DOESNT GET INJURED AGAIN. Is that a guess or based on science, or medical reports , or Miss Cleo knowledge?
Mangold is the player we picked with the trade of Abe, so he has everything to do with Abe. Chad plays through injuries? How came he has missed more games than played in? We talk as if we are happy that Abe is Injured.Any player can go down at any time, so just because our"egg" hasn't been injured doesnt mean that we should gloat that our ex player is gone down.injuries can happen to anyone, so please dont give me that"Chad plays through pain" EVERY PLAYER PLAYS THROUGH SOME AMOUNT OF PAIN.
If the CS was so sold on penny, why did they trade for RAMSEY, and draft Clemens and refuse to DECLARE Penny the starter? Some of you are just not thinking. One good game against a team we will be competing with for a top 5 draft pick, doesnt mean too much.In the same vein, one bad game against a team that is competing to play in the Superbowl(Patriots) will not mean anything.
Because now we have a smart FO. To remain on the team, Penny took a huge paycut. No rookie FO is going to pin their hopes on a guy coming back from 2 shoulder surgeries. They also looked ahead to the fact that even if he does come back, Chad's no spring chicken. So they drafted Clemens for the future. This has nothing to do with Abe being traded though. Abe wanted a huge payday that he did not deserve. Period. The guys that wanted to be a part of the rebuilding Jets all took paycuts. How this is not stunningly clear, I just don't understand.
I never said I didn't support the trade; I trust the new management of the Jets very much and if they felt it was time for him to go, then it was time for him to go. I'm just sick of people bashing Abe over the 2004 playoffs incident. I will not deny he's injury prone and that lowers his value alot, but the fact is he was legitimately hurt that time in 2004 and was in the right to sit out.
