Herm above Parcells? That's so rich that's it's officially classified as a solid waste.

Look it. I was a Herm guy for 4 out of his 5 years. But last year was horrible. Why is it that the Pats had as many injuries as the Jets (albeit, not at QB) and they found a way to hold it together and advance as far as Herm did in his three playoff apperances combined. Do I think Herm was the worst thing to happen to our team. Hell no. But all these sob stories about how we wronged him have to stop.

And someone brought up a good point recently: it's not as though the Jets under Herm were the class of the league when they made the playoffs. I think the same god who looked down on Herm with the Miracle in the Meadowlands was also looking down on his team during those playoff years. 2001: we make a 53-yard field goal as time winds down after losing to Buffalo the previous week? 2002: we win the division at 9-7 (how often does that happen) thanks to the Pats beating the Fins and yes, a Jets win vs. Green Bay. And then 2004: we back our ass into the playoffs after losing to the Rams thanks to Willie Parker's coming out party and the Bills' self-destruction at home.

I really liked Herm. I drank his cool-aid for a while. But he flat out lied this year. And he's a guy who preaches telling the truth, and honor, and not disrespecting the NFL. He left us in a god-awful mess. He should be ashamed.

And let's be clear about his leadership skills. A leader tells the hard truths, takes people where they should go and not just where they want to go. Why is it that the team was so out of shape this year, that they couldn't buckle down when it mattered? Ty Law looked 3 months pregnant all year, got every Monday off, had to be separated from Justin Miller so he didn't become corrupted. Herm, meanwhile, is spending all of November and December planting stories with the press about KC. You know, I think Herm is a good man, God-fearing and all of that. But he's in over his head. And I'm glad he's gone.

What you say is true about 2004--but the jets needed to have the Pitt reserves beat the bills on the final day to get to the playoffs (happened). Then they needed Nate Kading to shank a 40 yarder in OT before they went to Pitt. We had a good year in 2004, but we got a few breaks too--It wasn't all Herm's accomplishment.

Parcells is a better coach than Herm, there is no question about that.

I liked Herm better. Parcells tends to burn players out, burn bridges, break promises, etc. He's a good field manager, but so was Attila the Hun. Herm was a solid coach until he blew a gasket this last season, and put together a better year-to-year product. The players responded to him in a different way than they did with Parcells, and for a while it was a refreshing change from what I had come to expect as a Jets fan.

Parcells is better at adjusting than Herm. It's just that the way he adjusts is by leaving a team high and dry and finding a new one. I won't deny he's good, and career-wise outshines a lot of guys more successful in the NFL than Herm. But as a Jets coach, I prefer Herm.

Yes, Parcells is the better coach, but as far as what they did with the Jets, they are about even.

As far as the original post, no I won't be following Herm to the Chiefs and being a Chiefs fan. Just because a player or coach I liked on the team leaves, doesn't mean I switch teams. Of course, the original poster doesn't have to worry about that because I don't think there is a player or coach on the Jets who he ever liked.

I wish Herm well, and if it isn't hurting the Jets I want the Chiefs to do well, but I'm still a Jets fan.

Screw Herm and screw KC, I hope they go 8-8 and miss the playoffs. Then 8-8 the following year... that's all Herm is ... an average coach. He's nothing great. Great coaches play to win average coaches play not to lose which is why guys like Belly, Gruden , Parcells, Shanahan and eventually Saban win SB's while guys like Herm, Schottenhiemr and Dungy will always be also rans.....

Hopefully Mangini and Tanny do what needs to be done and completly blow this thing up and start over with their guys. That means Chad, Curtis, Law, Abe, Fabini, Mawae , Kendall and J-mac should be searching for new homes. Lets take this hit right now and get out of hell in two years right when we are the youngest and hungriest team in the AFC we'll be ready to bring in some big time FA's.

I supported Herm but I'm a JETS fan 1st and foremost and like a player that leaves to go to another team his tenure with the Jets is OVER so lets MOVE ON.

It is the Mangini era. I WILL NEVER SUPPORT THE CHIEFS. Even though I now live in ATLANTA, I'll NEVER support the FALCONS, I'm A JETS fan, not a Herm Fan, just a supporter and like someone else said he's the 2nd all time winningest Jets coach in the teams HISTORY and went the playoffs 3 out of 5 seasons.

He was NOT always the BEST at his craft, but he tried and he also had a GM like Badway helping to undermine him. Herm doesnt coach for THIS team anymore so can we LET THIS PETTY HERM LOVE/HATE CRAP GO?! PLEASE!

    Thank You

Wow, will the ignorance and lack of logic of CJ69 never cease :)

By the logic he's trying to use he would be a Pats fan because of his man-love for BB yet for another fan to not hate the coach the same way he does we must be switching loyalties. What BS.

I am a Jets fan. Always have been, always will be. I also thought Herm did a good job as a Jets head coach and I was sad to see him go. I think he got a raw deal from many fans who seem more willing to give EM chances they were never willing to give Herm. I'm not saying this is everyone nor that some people didn't have valid reasons for disliking Herm, I'm just saying there were still quite a few fans who couldn't get over Herm being allowed to learn on the job and who most likely never would've let Herm and TB attempt to rebuild.

Without getting into every old argument, I will summarize by saying bottom line is when Herm's teams were healthy he won, when they weren't he didn't. He made mistakes but he did more good then harm in my book and I think he will do well with the Chiefs.

Once the decision was made to let Herm go, EM was the best option and while we will have to wait and see he has the potential to be a better head coach. I don't agree that we truly need to "blow things up" to rebuild and think there is plenty of talent on this team. I think the main reasons for "blowing things up" would be to allow EM to bring in players he wants to implement his scheme whatever that may be. It's a risk but it could pay off pretty well.

Hopefully people won't jump on EM like they did Herm for implementing "his scheme" and give this CS a chance to show what it can do. I honestly think that if we don't blow up the team we have the talent to go at least 8-8 next year if EM is any good. That being said, I've never been one to nitpick every little thing so as long as we seem to be moving forward I will be happy. And just for Champs sake let me clarify that last statement by repeating something I said before and that is while I may be happy I will NOT be SATISFIED until we win a SB.

It doesn't matter what anybody says the fact is when you lose your starting QB and back up for the year you can kiss your season good bye. Name me a team that lost there 2 QB as early as we did and still made it to the playoffs? A lot of you didn't like Herm from the jump so the only thing you can say is what about last season, but seem to forget about all the injuries we had. What did the Pats do this season with there injuries and players lost?

I've had my share of fun in the past with some of Champs' negativety, but on this one, I have to eat crow. I was a Herm supporter right up until September or so.

I was always willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. I'm talking about the clock management, the mis-use of Time-Outs, the number of times he ran Martin the year before while Lamont Jordan sat on the bench, the predictability of the playcalling. I was proud to have an African-American as a coach and yes, was even willing to give him a little extra time to come around. I always thought he was a great motivator who was genuinely a very nice person but who needed more on-the-job training. I was willing to give him that pass and remain loyal. And after all, he did get us to the playoffs 3-4 years, right? My instinct was to stand by his side for one more season, especially since we had Donnie Henderson and Mike Heimerdinger on board.

A lot of that started changing for me at TC in August. I attended four of the two-a-days and reported my observations here, along with ThunderBird and several others. The camp was extremely soft. In fact, I was shocked. There was also an intangable air of superiority and overconfidence. People sauntered around the field with hands on hips with an attitude like we were already 6-2 and going into the Bye week, for Christ's sake. It's hard to explain, but Edwards certainly had a lot to do with the overconfidence. I'm sure of that. The man even showed up on the hottest days wearing a long-sleeved sweatshirt. I have no idea what that was all about to this very day, but needless to say, he wasn't moving around the field very quickly with that cockamamie attire, and neither were our players, who followed Herm's lead.

But, okay, I'm still willing to see how the season gets going. Maybe Herm knows something I don't know about preparing a team. We'll go into Arrowhead and take those Chiefs apart... we're so prepared it isn't even funny, judging by how little we need to work on in camp and how obviously physically prepared we are that we don't even need to do windsprints or the like. And Pennington was 89% ready by mid-August, even Herm announced that (I never saw it though) and therefore we're all set to go.

Then came the KC game. The feeling in the pit of my stomach at halftime is something I won't forget. It was obvious we were not a prepared football team, not in the least. In fact, we were laughable.

The playcalling still sucked. The clock management hadn't improved one iota. The blowing of red-flagging stymied me. TO's were spent like water (can't remember one game we played in where we had all three TO's nearing the end of the 4th quarter). The running of Martin again... the repetitive running of Curtis... the predictable calls again... this was supposed to be a changed team under Heimerdinger's offensive coaching! Instead, it appeared the ghost of Hackett was still with us! But it wasn't Hackett all along... it was Herm all along. It's obvious now! The fish stinks from the head down!

Injuries aside... And first let me say that I don't say this easily because that's a huge leap... in fact, saying "injuries aside" is like saying 9/11 wasn't so bad it it weren't for the planes running into the twin towers. Hello? But I'm saying it anyway... INJURIES ASIDE, it became apparent to me that I could no longer give Herm the pass I wanted to give him. It was still the same old shit going on, only with injuries. Nothing had changed. Sure, the injuries killed us... absolutely killed our chances, but Herm had not prepared this team, I don't care what anybody says. And the downright lack of observation... like Pennington's inability to throw a f*cking football, for one. It didn't take a f*cking genius at TC to see that Chad was just not ready. No f*cking way. Yet Herm put him in there. Sure, Chad's a competitor and he's gonna want to give it a try, so he tells Herm he's ready. But it's Herm's job, Damn it, to KNOW that the kid is not ready. Come on!

So, without a passing game, we run Martin. Then we run Martin again and we blow red flags by flagging calls we can't win and not flagging the ones we can, then we call TOs' even, when the other team sees an erroneos call and we actually buy them time to red-flag it and they win the call! By now the team is already suffering massive injuries and they're soft as hell because of the cockamamine marshmallow TC, and we're saying things like "Punting is good." Perhaps we should also be saying "Touchdowns are over-rated."

I threw in the towel on Herm in September and it had nothing to do with the injuries and everything to do with the fact that he's a complete imbecile.

Damn it Champs! I was going to say, "Don't get me started," and you already have!
