What is this, Sparticus? Can't we all handle differences of opinion reasonably, without resorting to SA, whatever that is?
I hope Herm wins a SB and it really wouldn't upset me if he knocks us out of the playoffs on his way to winning the SB. Herm did a lot for us and we did him wrong.
How can you say that? If he wanted to come back next year, he could have done so without lifting a finger. Instead, he wanted a contract extention he didn't merit based on the 2005 season and the shoddy playoff coaching he did in 2004. Yes, there were injuries, but why did Chad get injured, anyway? Who put him back in? The Jets did no wrong to Herm. Herm wanted more than the team (rightly) felt he deserved, a contract that would have tied the team down even more than the other big-money, low-merit contracts the front office is now trying to extricate itself from.
Well, I guess you answered the question. My question is why you post here if you're not a Jets fan though.
What wrong with wanting a contract extention when your about to re-build? He desvere it! Like him or not the man did get us in the playoffs 3 of the 5 years he coached us no Jet coach can say that. The bottom line is that the player gets the last say so if he ready or not the coach can only go by what the doctors and that player says and I never saw anything where a docotor said he should sit out longer.
wow...i was accused of not being a real jet fan when i was rooting for them to lose after the season was already over....youre rooting for herm to eliminate the jets en route to a superbowl????wow....our first herm-loving "not real" jet fan
question for the mods...would a poll or something like that to expose the worst posters on this site be considered against the rules????sunshiner or darksider,we have some clowns around here that shouyld be exposed no?
I hate to bash Herm, because I like him and agree getting a team to the playoffs in 3 out of 5 years is no mean feat. But his handling of the team in 2005 was poor, as it was clear his stars were either too coddled (Abe) or too old (Fabini) or both (Vinnie) and he wasn't adjusting. Good coaching is about adjustment. Herm showed nothing except a greater defensiveness at press conferences, and clearly didn't do enough to bring Brooks Bollinger or the other HBs into the mix as the season's inevitable fade became clearer. Did DeWayne Robinson sit out a down all year, even when he wasn't doing much on the field but taking up space? Geez, even Joe Walton shook things up once in a while. Every coach will have their share of bad seasons, but demanding an extention after your worst ever is what Alec Baldwin might call his "Irish negotiating technique." I think Herm's days were numbered, he knew the team was going to be going down because he hadn't done enough to bring up fresher faces, and he was looking for a way of getting out without looking like he was running away, which he sort of was.
I see you points and they are good ones, but you also have to look at what happen during that season with injuries and so on. I know people say you shouldn't use injuries as a excusses, but damn did we have a great deal of them so in that case you can use injuries as a excusse.
I have learned that most NY Jet head coach leaves us for a better deal. Can't argue with that. It's FACT.
