Champ....you still didnt answer jetblues point about naming the hall of famers on the steelers for instance....how many future hall of famers do they have. The problem many of us will always have with you is that you put words in our mouth that because we might think Vilma is a pretty solid player...you term him as average. Dont even respond to that point....I know what you will say. The point is that you miss a very key ingredient to the makings of a successful team...and that is you must have a bunch of solid players...above average players...that category isnt in your vocabulary. Because its not...and thats fine...but because its not...like I said before, its impossible to discuss rosters with you when 99.9% of fans believe that category to be accurate. Now...so I beat you to the punch...Im not saying...REPEAT...IM NOT SAYING THE JETS HAVE A BUNCH OF SOLID PLAYERS. The Pats have a bunch of solid players...but I think its safe to say that the Pats have no more than one or two hall of fame players on their team. That alone shoots down you point. If you cant admit that teams need role players..and solid players...then whats the point in discussing roster moves and potential free agent players...when every year only 4 or 5 guys enter the elite position you crave so badly.
If anything he's gotten MORE conservative IMO. Kordell Stewart and Neil O'Donnell would sling the ball around to the tune of 400+ attempts a year, while Roethlisberger has yet to top 300 attempts in either of his first 2 seasons. Even in the playoffs Stewart tended to throw alot, in 97 he had 36 attempts and tossed 3 ints in a loss to Denver and in 01 he chucked it 42 times and 3 ints against the Pats
Well that means Pitts OL has become more dominant which is then a tribute to Cowher & his FO for getting the right guys
Cowhart changed a bit...I personally dont go by the number of passes...its the gameplan. He opened up against the Colts? throwing the ball 7 straight times. Once the game was under control..they do what they do best...and this system of being aggressive early....and then beating the hell out a team late really really worked. Hats off to him this year..and the OC that designed that gameplan.
Jay I do not follow the Steelers so my reply is I do not know but for sure Ben got 1 leg up huh? Average=OK if that is solid then we are on the same page. You could be taking my average & your solid out of context. However if your standard is that a player is solid that allows plays to be stopped 5 or more yds D/field from the LOS then I would say you standards are way, way lower then mine. You are again missing my entire point a average player is a role player just check on what I wrote about the gene pool which is the same as you are saying but using average vs your role playing. Maybe it is your bias towards me but for sure maybe you need some assistance to comprehend what I post. I also do not why you get upset about the word average since if they are not poor players say like Reed & Thomas they are average or in your words "role" players
Once again, I don't think its so much the gameplan or even the playcalling as it is the execution. While the Steelers had the fewest pass attempts they also had the highest YPA in the league. The Steelers running game was never really dominant last season either. Parker had some nice games but for the most part it wasn't that effective.
No...I dont think it was a mirage. To answer your above post...I have no bias against you champ...not one bit. I truly enjoy many of your posts. You know how many times I have defended you with other posters...not that you need defending. I just have this thing in my head about you that sometimes...SOMETIMES...you need to look right all the time. You will never say the words "hmmm...perhaps I was wrong about that". Its a trait the most civil people despise a bit..the guy thats never wrong..and always right. To this you will respond "If Im wrong...please show me how Im wrong". Many of us have tried when it comes to labeling talent. Its just that many of us disagree how you justify saying that the Jets have 0 quality players. Then you make a comment that if Hobson or Barton were to be cut...they would retire because nobody would pick them up...which is a bit ridiculous. Thats all...Im fine with you.
Not sure about that 3rd. I mean they surprised many by coming out throwing in all of the playoff games. I would think you would have to say it was at least a bit unexpected. There was a commitment right off the bat of every game they played in the playoffs to say "dont think your going to stack the line on us from the get go". I do agree, the execution of that was darn good though. I do agree though...the actual YPC wasnt dominant...but how many games did they just drain the clock with ball movement...3 yards...5 yards. It was efficent to say the least.
Hey, I'm just trying to help a fellow Jet fan move forward with his life. He's going to need to save up some of his negativity so he's ready to begin his campaign to fire the new regime the moment the opening kickoff goes out of bounds in September.
 Well eric Mangini has never led the NYJ to a SB so you can't blame Champ for being upset at EM:breakdance:
Pretty certain that this will be a much calmer year then the Herm years. The Herm syndrome is probably 2 or 3 seasons away if no major improvement is forthcoming
You must have missed it that when i have been corrected I will gladly admit it. The last time was when I pointed out Raye was the coach who took Herm on & it was Bishop
If that's the case then why were you anti-Herm from day 1? we made the playoffs in yr 1 then won the div in yr 2 and you still hated him so why wouldn't you hate Mangini if he doesn't get us to a SB?
You may say that you found my comment silly on Hobson & Barton but IMHO that is what would occur as they appear to have 0 talent & in Bartons case is getting long teeth. Before I post something something I have done my homework before the post. I had daily arguments with someone on this board thru Email & he like you would accuse me of being silly & if he truly a man he would stand up & ID himself hoowever in the end EVERYTHING I said came to pass such as Becht & Thomas + others. I certainly think having seen so many players over so many years I have a pretty good handle on who will succeed & who will not. Actually FB is far more of a second hobby to me so I really do attempt to be right up on it. Also with the NFL pkg I am watching 2 games at any one time then switch when one hits a commerical + a 3rd game in my PIP so I really do get a good exposure to what is going on around the league
I was not happy at first. However as time went on and I realized how Herm is not the MAN I thought he was I grew weary. Then I was upset about the vacancy at HC but I am impressed with whats happening here and I truly think we will be good again, maybe even next year! GO JETS!!!
For the last time champ...not doubting your football love..or knowledge. Just your judgement on certain players..thats all. I believe a bit more in the system...a superstar is a superstar..I agree with you there...but there have been many great HOF players that never won a championship....see Ernie Banks, Yaz, Ted Williams, Patrick Ewing etc. My disdain..and dislike...and where I hold Herm Edwards in my mind as a head coach in the NFL makes me believe that there are certain...not all...not 89%..but certain players on the Jets that truly can not be judged on what they have accomplished so far in the NFL. During Herms tenure, not one young player besides Probowl JV, prospered into a very good football player...not one. Are their superstars hiding in the weeds? Probably not...but are there solid above average football players on this roster right now? Probably.
If after several years go by & I see zero major improvement in the team then EM will get the FULL Herm treatment but EM I see hope where Herm there was only super duper darkness
