True. I was referring to the overall results only. Just pointing out that despite the FO having two good years and only one bad, many people weren't willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for being able to rebound in 2004.
If Vinny Testeverde got drafted by San Fran instead of Tampa - I say he goes to the HOF and the other guy is just another Joe. A LOT goes into being a HOF player including a lot of luck - playing in the right system and injuries. If Joe Montana goes to Tampa and hurts his shoulder twice he's just another Chad - Who never gets to develop and never has the star talent around him to give him opportunities. I'm sure I'll get attacked on the Vinny thing but, go ahead, it's just my opinion. Bottom line - I think Champ is way off and out an an island when it comes to evaluating players - Any bozo could say Player X is great (HOF) and Player Y SUCKS.... It's differentialting ALL the guys in the middle and COACHING that talent and MESHING (GM) that talent together that makes a Championship TEAM with a handful of possible HOF players in their prime. When BB and Parcells were here Much of the same talent on Defense played MANY times better than what they did in the past... When BB went to the Pats he coached UP a lot of players and in todays NFL THAT is where you make your biggest gains with maybe again, a handful of legit HOF players and NOT just any HOF player but HOF players in their prime....BB lost much of his secondary the year before last year and STILL won - That's the magic, Not just hoping to one day assemble a team of HOF's that anyone can coach. The way Champ is going, WHEN the Jets do win the Super Bowl - You will STILL sit here that whole year saying there's not enough HOF players. - But, ya know what, there will be great coaching - And a great cast of players where the bottom 20 guys on the team are better than the bottom 20 guys on most other teams - and THAT is what it will take - You're NEVER going to see a half dozen or more legit HOF players..... How many are on the Steelers? Does Bettis and his part time role count? Is Hines Ward HOF? Ben?
Well sorry if my standards are way higher then yours. Then so be it you keep your low standards s & I will keep my high standards. If you are happy calling JV a quality player then continue to do so. To me a MLB whose majority of tackles is 5 yards or more downfield & whose pass D is weak at best to me is no more then just another average LBer in the NFL. Nothing to write home about.
My system ONLY rates the NYJs players. So far my sysetem is batting 1,000 vs your batting average of 000. Hopefully someday you will stop presenting this boarrd with misinformation day after day. In case you are unaware you like a NY Junc have becomes jokes on this board due to your spreading of misinformation
They had less qua;lity players as already explained to you for the 69 team due to the frugalness cheet thrown over them by Hess
Yes in the lsat SB maybe Cowher finally had learnt his less cause he was Mr. Liberal then Mr. Concervative. I attribute it to having super confidence in big Ben that he did not have in the QBs before big Ben came along
How can you say drafting DeW was good for the team since he was damaged goods from the get go? Just more misinformation on your part.
I don't think that Cowher changed the way he did anything. Roethlisberger is just alot better then any of the QB's he's previously had, and carried the offense on his back to the SB. Of course he laid an egg in the SB but due to other various reasons the Steelers were able to pull out the W.
So. lets look at the past 5 SB teams and count the HOF players.... Again, if you count Bettis, you have to count Martin.... I think that's ridiculous.... I think your extreme emphasis on HOF players is totally discounting coaching and the TEAM effect. Give BB or Parcells a TEAM that works together of all Pretty good players with NO or only a few HOF players and the'll win a Super Bowl.. It's not the HOF players as much as not having any weak links and having the bottom of your roster player solid fundamental football, minimizing mistakes, excellent special teams etc etc etc.... HOF players means little to me... I'd much rather have a solid TEAM. I'd say Bill Parcells, Bill Bellichik and most people with experience in the NFL would laugh your HOF Player theory out of the room.... They woul ALL also fall opff their chair when you told them Vilma was an average LB. I thought you were an old time Jet fan with great insight but, you're quickly losing me on this....... Can we at least count HOF players on Super Bowl teams so you can show us how it works?
YOUR SYSTEM?????????? Champ - You're losing credit FAST in my eyes and for a second there I thought I was the only one left giving you credit. This whole "Spreading misinformation" Shtickt even makes me start to doubt how old you are.
Well facts are facts & such names as MD, Tony, Dino, jets in 2004, NY Junc, MisterMoss just to name a few have been dispensing misinformation every post that they posted in the last 5 years. I think you are misreading my post I did not say you to were dispensing misinformation
Sorry you do not grasped what I am saying. The NFL has a gene pool. Divide the pool into poor, average & elite. Since JV does not fall into the elite the next drop down is average so like most players in the NFL he is average. Even if you wish to make another catagory near elite he does not fall into that catagory either so he again drops down to average. That is way to assess players & to see how strong a team you have. To give you some other examples JMaC would get a poor same for Reed & Thomas. Does that make it easier for you to understand. If not then just go along that we agree to disagree
Yep that is what I saw also that cause of big Ben Cowher changed his methods that he had stucken to for so many years of run more run & still more run
Champ - If you put a whole team together with 100% players at Vilma's talent level, heart and desire you would Blow the league out of the water. As far Mcareins - I happen to think he's real good WR - He's got a ton of desire and work ethic is what makes a player elite in addition to talent... JM is probably working his tail off right now improving his game - That's what you want guy's willing to WORK and bust their butts.... I say you never saw the real Jmac with the Jets - I saw that video that kid does on "Jets TV" ripping Jmac - Now how the hell can you rip him for not catching long balls when you had a OC like Hackett calling all dump offs, you had a QB with a weak arm - then an injured QB, then a new Offensive system, then injured QB, then 3 different QB's.... What a mess.... My Book on Jmac is WIDE OPEN... .No he's not in your elit category but, I think he's got a lot to offer.....
It's time we move on and stop arguing about Herm. I was behind him when he was here and trying to win with the Jets. Now he's gone, I could care less about him or KC, I'm much more interested in what the new regime will do here. Put it to bed, champ, and move forward.
CHAMP.... Can you please tell me the HOF ELITE players on the recent Super Bowl teams? You do know how parity has made the league pretty level where each team isn't far away from the next when it comes to talent level... "Your System" sounds outdated by about 2 decades to me. When the talent level throughout the league is mostly "Average" and equal - What you need to do is OUTCOACH and get the bottom players on your roster better than or playing better then the other team's.... You need a disciplined team that makes little mistakes.... "Your System" sounds like the antithesis of what Bill Bellichik has done..... instead of the Patriots coming out of the tunnel as a TEAM - It sounds like you would rather have a dozen or so individuals come out. You are NEVER going to find a front office that agrees with YOU and drafts ALL the guys YOU want. I don't know if you'll EVER be happy as a Football fan - the Super Bowl will bite you when you leats expect it - You'll cry all year about no HOF's and then BAM - Good coaching and above average talent through out the lineup will bite you in the rear and you'll be backtracking.
Well I judge players on productivity & ability to react to plays. That is why I say JMac is poor & JV is average. If your standards are lower that is fine but anybody who is credited with the majority of his tackles 5 or more yds DF cannot be classified higher then more then average. Maybe he is to small to be a MLB. Maybe he can not ID a play fast enough. I do not know the reasons but for sure he is NOT a dominant MLB sorry to say. For sure down the road if EM is really a D guru I am sure he will upgrade this position as it is a key position that needs a dominant player if you goal is to win a SB
As I said I don't think he changed his methods at all. Of course in the regular season the Steelers were dead last in passing attempts and first in rushing attempts. Roethlisberger was simply ruthlessly efficient on the way to the SB. Against the Bengals Roethlisberger only attempted 19 passes, while the Steelers ran 32 times. In those 19 passes he threw for over 200 yards and 3 TDs. In the next round against the Colts Roethlisberger threw 24 times, while the Steelers rushed 42 times. Against Denver it was closer to equal but they still ran more then they passed, by a 33 to 29 margin. In the SB Roethlisberger threw 21 times compared to 33 rushes. If Roethlisberger had faltered in any of the games before the SB the Steelers would've surely fell to the wayside like we saw last year from the 15-1 Steelers and many other Cowher playoff teams in the past.
I saw it a bit differently as 19 passes as you pointed out to me was more then he would have normally threw but maybe it was just a mirage on my part also
