It's already a bad move. It's one of the reasons the Jets now have so many holes to fill on their team. You don't trade multiple first rounders to move up and take a guy that you know has a degenerative knee condition. How could the reward possibly outweigh the risk in a case like this? It's just not smart.

Obviously they thought it was worth the risk, it's not like we had 2 top 10 picks. We had 2 mid-late 1st rd picks, I still think so far it's worked out but if he never regains his '04 form(and get better than that) I will change my mind on it.

You make that trade if you are as weak and panicy as Bradshaw was.

Remember, he was the genius who took the Chad Morton Redskin signing to arbitration....when he new the arbitor was A REDSKIN SEASON TICKET HOLDER!!!

    Thank God he's gone.

It was lucky that happened, Chad was not worth half of what we were going to pay him and what Wash paid him. In regards to the skins moves of '03 that was his ONLY bad move but luckily it still worked out for us.

I think you're overplaying the 04' year a bit - He wasn't THAT good - The whole defense played well and he played a part in that.

For what we paid for him Bradway painted himself into a corner where nothing LESS than 04' would be even satisfactory.... I SCREAMED it at the time - How the hell could you pay that for 1 guy.

There's no way to spin what they paid for Robertson and the way Bradway was influenced by public perception after the Redskins stuff....

Just shameful and one of many many many incredibly bad manuevers that for some reason people want to spin.

LOL... Come on.. THIS is what I'm talking about..

So the Coles tender wasn't a Stupid mistake??

How about locking up Coles when you know he was good and WAY underpaid after what he went through in college..

How about paying Coles when the HC guarantees him he'll be paid and he's the team MVP?

he played a HUGE role. I think Barton was our best defender in '04 but Robertson was right there as #2 and he plugged the middle and help us shut down the run.

I do see the point and I understand how folks wouldn't be happy w/ what we paid. As of now I am fine w/ it but that can change if he doesn't get better.

I think it had more to do w/ Belichick rumored to move up to get him and w/ getting info that Josh Evans would be suspended again. I don't think it had much to do w/ the Washington moves which ALL worked in our favor and outside of the Morton move were all the correct moves(we got lucky the arbiter awarded Chad to Wash).

The mistake was made when we re-signed Chrebet at the beginning of '02 it was not made w/ the tender. We could have used the Chrebet money to sign him but since we didn't have that money we made the right call on Coles. Wash just overpaid him and then e got him back for cheaper 2 years later.

He wasn't the team MVP in 2002, Chad was. Herm called him the MVP but he wasn't actually the MVP and Herm is not the GM. I am sure Herm wanted him back but w/ we made the right call letting him go. A year later we were back and better than we were in '02 so the right call was made there.

He should have taken care of Randy Thomas and never allowed it to get to the free agency stage. But his lack of understanding of the importance of an offensive line is shamefully obvious.
He should have offered Coles a little more $ which would have forced the redskins to give up a #1 AND a #3 for him. They stated many times they would not have signed him if that was the price. Instead we lose him and then go back and get him, losing Santana Moss as an assettt in a different trade and then we give him a NEW contract at way more $.
Chad Morton was a valuable asset for the Jets.
the only one I agree with is letting John Hall go.
But getting beaten by the Redskins 4 times led to the terrible Robertson trade.. wasting 2 #1s on a workout wonder.

Problem is in our history we have had far to many & I mean far to manymedicore players which includes ALL of the 05 team & earlier way back to 98 then way, way back to 69. Between 70 & 97 it is totally a barren desert. Yes what else is there in sports but winning championships?

You can also go all the way back to when Coles was drafted and ask why Bradway only gave Coles a 3 year contract instead of a "standard" 4 year deal. The way 03 shook out, not having Coles on the team really didn't matter but that doesn't change the fact it was a mistake by the FO.

While the main goal for any team is to win the Superbowl, that does not mean that there cannot be gradations of quality between the 31 teams who did not win the Superbowl. Were the Patriots of last year just as good as the Texans?

GREAT - So not only was Bradway forced by Media and fan perception of the Skins deals BUT, he was influenced by Bellichik playing draft games with his head.

When was the last time Bellichik sold the farm for 1 guy? And INJURED guy...

Face it - Bradway was Played and Bellichik must of fallen off his chair laughing at what a nincompoop Bradway was/is.

This to me is a common misconception. We had many young guys see the field while Herm was here and contribute. Donnie was brought in specifically because he had a knack for working with younger guys. The guys who showed the most in practice and training camp were the ones who started for the most part.

In your own paragragh I have to just shake my head at the ammo AGAINST Herm and Bradway you're Soft-balling to me...

So they royally screwed up on Chrebet - We Agree on THAT.

They CERTAINLY screwed up on the tender YOU (of course) are the 1st person I EVER heard defend this one - I believe even Bradway said in retrospect he'd give the higher tender..

And - You throw Herm under the bus for telling fans, the media and the player information detrimental to the teams' progress or what he as a HC could do by telling Coles not to worry and that he was the MVP.. WHAT A STUPID MANUEVER BY HERM... NO?

Then you keep saying "We made the right call" - since we got him back - That wasn't the right call - that was a HUGE mistake..

I just feel like ANYTHING brought up about Herm and Bradway you will defend till your death just like when I entered this thread.

At the same time you could say when did a rookie beat out an incumbent player that deserved to start that didn't? I'm not saying it didn't happen but it sure didn't seem to be frequent. Vilma would've started over Cowart had Cowart not really stepped up his game. Cowart was playing like a monster before he got hurt and while Vilma is probably the better player in general, Cowart was showing to be the better player at that time and when Vilma got his shot, Herm nor Donnie forced Cowart back in when he was healthy.

Coleman I believe beat out more established guys when he started.

Every game I watched I saw players from our 6th and 7th rounds getting playing time in almost every game and making contributions immediately. Maybe not starting caliber contributions but a team is more then just it's starting players.

Cotchery was actually on the field a lot, just not utilized but then again very few of our offensive guys were properly utilized due to the overall issues.

I also disagree with this total mishandling of Jordan. Jordan didn't show to be special as a starter in Oakland and while that's not to say he won't get better we haven't seen much to say he was better then CMart was. I like Jordan and wanted him to take over for CMart and even agree that finding a balance to get Jordan more carries probably was the best move, but it's hardly such a travesty that it didn't happen. Jordan left to become a starter where he didn't have to beat someone out, not because he disliked Herm or anything else.

Jordan was bashing the Jets early in the season last year, before his agent or someone else convinced him to suck it up since he was leaving after the season ended. He "kissed and made up" with the Jets and Herm because he didn't want to be seen as a troublemaker, although since he ended up in Oakland it probably wouldn't have mattered.

As for Coleman, both 2003 starting safeties, Garnes and Carter were released and Coleman stepped in and filled the vacuum. I believe Mr. Glass was Coleman's only "competition" for the FS spot in 04.
