I didn't feel the need to start a new thread because this one is already a gem, but EVERY Jets fan with an HBO account MUST watch the documentary "Namath". I became a Jets fan over a decade ago because an uncle whom I looked up to told me that Joe was the greatest player and QB he's ever seen play. All while my friends are jumping on the Redskins train (I'm from VA) Being 23, all I have to judge Joe on are his statistics and the scarce game footage that is out there. I recently asked my uncle who he believes is the best QB to ever play in the NFL... He told me Joe Namath was, and he hasn't seen one like him since. This 66 year old uncle is a packers fan! Equipped with the Internet I proceed to form an argument against the very player I began to root for the G&W. I mention stats and metrics to somehow degrade his accomplishments. My uncle says "I don't care what the numbers say, you asked me who the best QB I have ever seen play is." Had Joe not played on scrap knees during his entire NFL career id wager to say we would all be just a little more prideful Jets fans. It's 3 am, I'm drunk, and need to go to bed, but thank you Joe for securing a tiny bit of pride for this franchise. Wish I could have seen em' play. P.s. Watch that fucking documentary.
If you were starting a fantasy team in the late 60s and could pick any QB you wanted you would be crazy not to take Namath..Staar was there, so was Unitas and and a few others but Namath was special.
