It's embarrassing how some of these younger fans continue to mention Namath and Geno in a thread discussing Namath's inclusion in the Hall of Fame. I weepz for the children.

Great post Joe. You are killing it in this thread.

Much like I don't understand comparing Geno to Namath, I don't understand comparing Sanchez to Namath either. And I loved Sanchez, but it's embarrassing, even for illustrative purposes in comparing multiple pick games.

And I'll never play the "well he threw X interceptions in Y game, if it weren't for that we win the Division" because it dismisses EVERYTHING Namath did to get us to that point. What players do in the last minute or last game is important but it shouldn't dismiss what occurred in the rest of the game or the rest of the season--it's too myopic. Game/seasons are a totality-you can't look at a TD throw in OT and dismiss terrible play in all of regulation just like you can't dismiss monumental play in regulation because of a bad pick in OT. That's just me.

Yeah, I saw that to and I was a bit confused too. Before Namath, Tittle was my older brother's favorite player BECAUSE of his tenure with the Giants. He had this famous picture of Tittle taped up to his wall, was crushed when he retired as a member of the Giants.

I never saw Otto Graham play so all I can go on is what folks and historians have said about him. My Dad used to tell me--one of the greatest ever. I can't form my own opinion.

But I sure as hell wouldn't go to his stat sheet and say "you know, not all that impressive for supposedly the greatest ever, had a bunch of seasons with more INTs than TDs, if it wasn't for his INT in that 1953 Championship game which they lost by 10 points, maybe they win that game" [BTW, I just looked that up like some of the haters here look up Namath's game logs--I was kidding obviously], meh- kind of overrated if you look at his stats".

Typical response from an internet pussy trying to be a tough guy. If you're going to call someone out, call them a liar, then back it up. Or go run and hide like the pussy you are. Maybe while you're there hiding, you'll learn English.

    You're best point ever.

The difference is, some will argue that Sandy was the greatest pitcher of all time.

No one here is claiming that about Namath.

I agree Stokes about Otto Graham, I never saw him play and would not comment on his game using old stats

Why don't you just speak for yourself and not for everyone. When you say "no one here." If you studied film on Otto Graham you can have an educated opinion on him or anyone. It does lack not seeing a player live but that isn't possible when you're talking about the past. People write books on individuals from the past including athletes. And they didn't see them live.

You can't. And given today's tabloid era, folks love to look back and rip Namath because of his flamboyant lifestyle and the fur coat and the women and Bachelors and look at stats in a vacuum. .

Nobody knows anything about Otto Graham, nobody cares so nobody is going to write a negative word about him.

It's like when we were kids and you'd read sports books about the Games Greatest Baseball Players or Greatest Football Players--it was all fluff. I thought Mickey Mantle was the nicest guy in the world, a God when it came to baseball.

And then I read Jim Bounton's "Ball Four" and found out, whoa whoa whoa--not so fast.

The earliest form of tabloid journalism ate up Namath. Nobody cared about Otto Graham or Sammy Baugh or Norm Van Brocklin.

Hell, none of us found out anything about Ty Cobb until YEARS after his death.

Reread what I said before you pcl this thread.

I said "no one here" is claiming Namath is possibly the greatest of all time like Koufax.

    Geezuz.

So you think some of the folks here comparing Namath to Geno have studied Namath's game tapes and studied him extensively?

Besides, I have no interest in studying Otto Graham extensively so that I can form my own independent opinion of him. I don't feel the need-I accept what I've read and what my Dad told me--because it's not...that...important to me.

But even if I DID study him, I'd take with great weight what those of them who saw him play said about him because THEY are the ones that wrote the books on him.

So a guy writing a book about Babe Ruth doesn't know what he is talking about. This kid you've been attacking for no reason at all made a good point. About Namath and interceptions. People have been arguing about this for days now so there has to be something to it. And if he watched tape on Joe Willie he's qualified to talk about it. This is the hot stove league for football after all. Not a platform for hassling people who disagree with you.

First of all, I never said that about any historian doing research.

My quarrel is with children looking at a stat in a vacuum--INTs--and saying "Namath, meh, not that good".

Notwithstanding the half dozen articles explaining why that stat doesn't tell it all.

You don't get it. I'd never go up to Doris Kerns Goodwin and say, "hey that Lincoln was overrated because he suspended habeas corpus".

Thanks JS. Right now watching Fed - Djoko, Big W finals - good match (ESPN).

That pix as you know was from the '63 Bears game at Wrigley Field after a Ed O'Bradovich hit.

Oh if only Del Shofner didn't drop that TD pass from Y.A. …..

So how do you know this guy doesn't know anything. Just because he doesn't agree with you. Still waiting for those pool pics. Sounds like you are "the most interesting man in the world."

Just like a internet fake. You want to post pics to prove me wrong? Those pics could be fake for all I know. Plus my point was if you're having so much fun why would you be on here? I would bet you come on here just about everyday?

    A couple of points.

When you have an iPad by your grill managing your music for your guests while BBQing, it's really not that intrusive to check TGG to see what stupidity is being posted. A click here or there, not a big deal. I also had the Met Game playing on my iPhone with the Optimum ap. Having multiple electronic devices on during a small outdoor dinner party is not that big of a deal or rude or even noticeable. It's a typical Friday or Saturday night at my house during the summer.

Second, when you question what I say I am doing, and you call me a liar, I can gladly prove you are wrong. Who gives a shit about a pool, millions of people have them. Or a BBQ? Or wine? It's life during the summer. Why would I lie about that? Why would I go to the lengths of finding pictures on the Internet to post them? I've posted pictures of my food and pool before, it's not that big of a deal. In this instance I was going to take a picture of your idiotic post on my iPad with my wine and pool in the foreground as proof in case you would idiotically think I would fake something as mundane as that. Holy crap.

Third, it's interesting how, when you are trolling you sound like an illiterate dumbfuck but now that you've been exposed as a internet pussy tough guy wannabe, your spelling and diction and punctuation has improved to almost flawless English. Almost, it would be "an internet" not "a interenet" but drastically better than your faux ghetto delivery.

Why is that? Because you're a fraud, a fake gangsta just like most everything you've said here about yourself. I can still remember Yisman destroying you in your gambling claims and when he asked you to post your bets, you ran and hid like an internet pussy.

I'll know when you post your response whether you are trolling or whether you've been caught as a fraud depending on your response's relative illiteracy.

Well, Joe, my Starr reference pertains to the fact that Namath played a very conservative game---for Namath. He rarely did that as a Jet.

Lmao. I'm a internet tough guy? I don't feel the need to call people names like you do. As for my betting I don't have to prove anything to anybody on here. Why would I want to waste my time proving anything to someone on here? It seems that when someone on here disagrees with you have to start calling them names. If I'm not mistaken you have been ban for if. Now back to my point this whole time... It must be very boring at your house parties if you come on here during them. I know when I have house parties or at one I never even think about coming on here.

Yup, really really boring parties. You'd hate them.

And I'm sure I'd hate your parties.

    Because I don't do gangsta.

    Or faux gangsta.

And you were called out and proven as a fraud on your betting.
