No way you restructure Brick. You don't want to give him more money or create more future dead money. For a player his age and state of decline, that's the worst possible thing you could do. He takes a pay cut, retires or gets cut. Those were his options.

How does signing Mo long term free up cap space this year? He wants JJ Watt money, which is in the $16M/year range. Actually signing him long term would end up eating up more cap space.

There are ways to manipulate the contract to defer cap hit money. Then you give him signing bonus money upfront to offset the deferred money which won't affect the cap.

We all want jj watt money but he isn't going to get it however I don't blame him for wanting to try as a free agent next year.

This poll was started a month and a half ago and I was promised that this poll would "Put An End To This!"

Look at most contracts, they include a large signing bonus with small salary the first year so even if he actually gets a $17.5M signing bonus and a $2.5M salary the first year, on a 5 year contract that would be a $6M cap hit this year, saving almost $10M on this years cap. Of course this adds $3.5M to each years cap but you would get a good chunk of the contract out of the way year 1.

Exactly--and he must be bluffing since sitting out a year at his age will do nothing but reduce his value subsequently.

He's got some nerve given he's never even made it to the playoffs--and he had his chance last year and blew it. NYJ should think about reducing offer and/or moving on.

I think its more of a principle thing myself. I like it too. I think they basically dont even want to hint at any long term investment in a qb. Dont be suprised is kap or foles end up on this roster tonight. Probably draft a guy too.

Well that works out well then cause id rather see geno play qb then to pay fitz to play QB for what he is asking.

i like fitz, love his toughness, but he is suuuuuuper replaceable for fractions of what he is asking. if he doesnt want 6 or 7 million i wish him the best elsewhere

Just heard this over on SNY. F this guy and his one hit wonder ass. Guess we draft a new QB next year if Petty isn't the one.
