I voted for him to come back. If we can pay Mevi$ and Wilkerson crazy amounts, why not reward the catalyst of an offense that was fun to watch and not the shit show it has been for years previous. Unless we are committed to drafting a QB in the 1st or 2nd round, you have to sign him @12mil per year with incentives. Even then you are looking at 3 years to get that new QB ready and that is 3 years that we lose the targets at WR and then we have to rebuild there. It is playing catchup year after year. Win now.

revis and wilkerson are all pro talent with well established track records

fitzpatrick is a low level starter/high level backup with a very checkered history as far as onfield success goes, he is also 33 and not a long term option

you dont reward mediocure players with huge contracts who wont be long term awnsers

The Jets would be idiots to pay 10 or more million dollars for what amounts to a barely competitive stopgap and decent backup QB.

I'd bring him back for the right price, but feel $8-10M is a bit high. I would pay him $6-7M for one year. I really think Bryce Petty can do the job but needs one more year to learn. If Fitz says no, then move on.

Get him a receiving TE and a deep threat or two at WR this could be the best offense in franchise history.

Except for the fact he can not get the ball to a deep threat, that might be an issue.

We just don't have the cap space to give him the money he's asking for. There really isn't more to say then that. This isn't an issue of ownership not wanting to spend money. We spent it all last offseason.

Sign Mo long term and it frees up enough to sign Fitz with some left over to sign the draft picks.

I don't know who his agent is, but it doesn't matter. The standoff over $ is all his agent's doing. Fitz owes his agent a shot at getting big bucks, since that's how the agent gets paid. If his agent can get Fitz $15M, and Fitz settles for $7M, then his agent gets screwed out of $240,000 (3% of $8M). And Fitz can't 'make it up' to him on the side.

Only when the $7M is in jeopardy (Jets go in a different direction) will his agent panic and sign off on the $7M. But as long as there's a shot at $15M, his agent ain't gonna blink.

that's only IF Mo isn't seeking 15M+ per year... sure seems like it.

He'll budge when he sees that it's either the Jets offer or nothing.

Signing Mo for an average of 15mil/year doesn't mean he'd have to make a 15mil cap hit for 2016. They could give him, say, 10mil base for 2016 with a signing bonus that only counts a low number this year and increases through the life of the contract.

Backloaded deals are the ones you make for young players in his situation.

They could just mirror the Malik Jackson contract and add a couple million more in base, signing bonus and/or guarantees so that Mo gets the satisfaction of getting paid more.

I think $15M is bit high but for argument sake even on a 6 year deal at $15M a year average they do $15M signing bonus with $5M salary this year, frees up over $8M in cap space this year and his cap hit on the remaining 5 years is $16.5M a year. Sounds high but as I said the $15M a year is a little on the high side and next year and following years I doubt it will seem very high when the new free agent contracts hit those years..

It might behoove us at this point to wait and see how the draft falls. If the Jets like a quarterback that falls to them in the first round, we don't necessarily need to retain Fitz.

I'm just not sure about this crop of quarterbacks. It really comes down to what the Browns and Rams do, because at this point it looks like one of the consensus top 3 are going to fall to us.

None of the QBs in this draft will factor into how successful we are in 2016 so I still think we need to get Fitz back.

I'd like to be competitive and entertained this year as well as look to the future.

I don't think that's correct, but if it is, it shouldn't be. The agent works for the player, not vice versa. Fitz should be able to tell the agent to accept the deal at any time and the agent has to do what Fitz says. Fitz doesn't owe the agent anything except whatever commission he gets on the contract he signs.
