It seems to me like it's a bit of a middle ground. Fitz wanted 12 mill and the Jets wanted better terms. At what point did he decide on 12? All reports were he wasn't asking for 16-18 earlier. It was only discovered later that he wanted 12. I think Macc was acting more trying to play it safe.
Yeah, that 'savior' line is a giant pile horse shit. If we stay healthy Fitz will have a productive year and we will compete this year. You know guys like Mangold, Marshall, Decker, Revis, Mo, and the rest are ALL happy and ready to go ball now. We have a good team and we will compete now. GTFO with this other shit
From my perspective, we needed to get this done (or move on), preferably not a long term deal. Done and done. They played hardball as long as they could, then pulled the trigger. He's better than anyone else we could've run out there this year. He's not Montana or anything, but even mediocrity gives us our best shot at being .500+. Even if the bottom falls out, we move on next year. And the response is...anger, complaints, doom and gloom. *sigh*
We were $8.7 million under. Darron Lee puts us at $6.9 million apparently (idk how much of his $1.85 million includes signing bonus). Fitz is $12 million so we are $5.1 over without incentives. I thought it was a little more.
It's the part where fans cry because we just wasted $12m in cap space to go 8-8, miss the playoffs, and get a crappy draft pick.
This off season has been a complete win in my eyes. The team has one of their big locker room leaders back. The 1 year deal for $12m is fair, much better than the original offer. We don't want Fitz on a 2-3 year contract anyways. Maccagnan with another last minute signing against all odds. I love that there are incentives as well, that will keep Fitz motivated. IMO a guy like that needs incentives.
Why shouldn't we be frustrated with mediocrity? I know what this is, a stop gap until Hack or Petty are ready to take over the reins next year. The problem with this move is that the Jets will be fortunate to be .500 this year with Fitz as our starter. Fitz has not led any team to the playoffs his whole career in the NFL and now he is older, has less arm strength and has the potential to be injured, making 12 million dollars for a " let's cross our fingers seasons". I see both sides of it, I'm hoping the pendulum swings to the positive side as the season goes on. Let's go jets
I Know I agree with you 100%...was just kidding around It sucks....so sick of the mediocrity from 98 till now....Same damn team for the last 15 years, how??
We just weren't going into this season with Geno Fucking Smith as our starting QB. Duh...... It's obvious that Fitz was our best option to compete this year. And we will compete. It's gonna be fun....for some people. Some people know better tho apparently Hopefully Hack and/or Petty take giant steps this year in their development and the future becomes brighter.
I would take it as well, just not based on the schedule being weak, I want ten games a season because the Jets are a good team.
Anxious to get this season going now more than I was just a few hours ago. Even more anxious for 2017 to see if Petty is the answer, if Hack gets a shot, if Fitz or Geno are still here. I'm getting ahead of myself, I'll stop.
Well I think this is right. Next year you let the two young guys (and maybe even Fitzpatrick again) battle it out. It doesnt make sense to sign Matt Forte, have Marshall in his prime, Revis on his last big guaranteed year and then cheap out on QB. Its a one year deal, so they start fresh next year if they dont want him anymore. Whats not to like about this deal?
