Either or both. But I agree, they will carry 4 this year.

But when he said he would except one year for $12 million that was coming off the heels of the team offering him a three-year deal that offered him only something like $6 million guaranteed in years three and four, he wanted more than that.

I believe he only gets more if he makes a playoff run.

If he makes a playoff run, I could care less about some dead money next season.

If he makes a playoff run he deserves more. Especially with the schedule. If not, then move on.

I don't see anything wrong with this move 12 million this year 3 mil in bonuses is what he deserved. Right above RG3 and right below Andy Dalton. I'm sure if we make the playoffs he'll get closer to 15 but that'd be worth it. A playoff birth could be realistically had even with this tough schedule because this is team is really freakin good, bias aside even with Fitzpatricks limitations we have a top 3 WR tandem. If Enunwa and Amaro could just give us another dimension in the H-Back/slot position, theres one more thing to worry about for offenses. And Smith should give us something when he comes back, i think he's ok he really would be better with another Qb and if he didnt hurt all the got damn time but i think if he ever makes it back on the field he can actually play.Forte is underrated is hell and id argue that our RB core is the beast in AFC East Powell is one of the better receiving backs in the league and Robinson is Ivory 2.0. Oline is good obviously the key is Clady if he stays healthy we should be fine if he doesn't were in trouble. Carpenters and Mangold are pro bowlers and hopefully one of those young Gs can emerge in camp this year.i Feel like we should be fine there.

Our D line will be better even next year PRIME Mo, Sheldons only missing a game and Leonard Williams should make major leap this year, id argue our line is the best in the league and i don't think we realize how much of an impact D-Lineman have in a game, it all starts in the trenches and when teams usually want to run the ball on first down, stopping that right of the bat is key to stopping offenses. We should be even better in that category with McLendon who actually with the Steelers gave up 1.31 fewer yards per carry with him on the field last season.
The difference was the highest among defensive lineman who played at least 300 snaps, I saw that on Rotoworld i believe. We finally have youth and speed at LB and i think Mauldin and Jenkins are starting on Day 1. Harris could play another 5 years with this line keeping him clean and old ILBs can play in a Bowles defense. I like Henderson a lot and he plays his role and Carter should be a good cover LB on passing downs. Revis was hurt last year and low-key still had a great year, no not the best corner of this past decade like he once was but he's a still top5 and i think he has a big ass chip on his shoulder. Marcus Williams to me is the key to taking this D to an ELITE level. With most teams playing 3 wide more and more him ballhawking and improving his game overall will be the difference. Pryor should take a step and Marshall improves the return game.

We can all breathe a sigh of relief now! :)

Training camp is here at last, first pre-season game about a week away!

Unless they feel they made a mistake with Petty which is why they decided to draft Hack in the 2nd round.

Not saying you're wrong, but that's just another way of looking at it.

Not true. The Jets could feel their season is over if Fitz goes down regardless who the backup is. They might feel that if Geno can't legitimately save the season if Fitz went down, why not just give a young guy like Hack or Petty some experience.

No competent coach would ever think that way. This is the nfl. Nobody tanks in this league.

I didn't say they would tank. I said if they feel that Geno can't realistically save the season, then they might decide its not worth keeping him over two young QB's who they like.

Rex Ryan isn't in town anymore. The CS and FO aren't broadcasting shit, and certainly aren't doing much public praising. I don't think any of us knows where Petty is one way or another.

That doesnt make any sense. Why on earth would a team trying to make a playoff run think that way? You are grossly overestimating the value and front office perception of Fitzpatrick. Thats tanking, thats exactly what it is. Tossing your season down the drain. You really think the jets go down the stretch and are a game away from the playoffs, they want Petty or Hack in there over Smith? Absolutely not and no sane NFL coach would either. Im not trying to bash you, but what you're saying doesnt make sense. There will be 4 qbs on this roster one way or another. 2 will be vets.

Sure that's possible, however if true is not a good look on Mac.

I think the Jets under Mac will be following the Ron Wolf philosophy of drafting a QB every year. I'm speculating that in a perfect world, Hackenberg starts next year, Petty is the #2, and a rookie is the #3 and that every year the rookie QB will push the guys currently on the roster.

Honestly, we can't assume anyone is the franchise QB until someone goes and proves they are worthy of that distinction on the field. Until then we have to patiently wait and see if Mac's plans for the position pays off.

If they did I don't see them in that article?

Look, the Jets are so high on Geno that they drafted a QB last year & brought in Fitz. Then they drafted a QB this year, and over paid Fitz on the first day of training camp.

Actions speak louder than words. The Jets FO & CS has very little confidence in Geno Smith.

I played madden last night against a user named bpetty_nyj. He never ran a play from under center and could not counter my blitzes.

How? Every sign points to this coaching staff/front office not really liking Smith. It comes down to if they think Petty or Hack could step in and do a better or similar job. Just because a guy has no NFL game experience doesn't mean he can't step in and play well.

The Jets in 2009 started a rookie QB and had a backup with 8 games of starting experience behind him.

It only doesn't make sense if the Jets like Geno and think he can play. I could see the Jets keeping 4 QBs as well. I just don't think it's a definite that Petty is getting cut and Geno is staying.

Whether you like it or not Geno will be on this roster. Petty isnt ready. Bowels said during the offseason hes not and his footwork needs work. Hack isnt ready, and there were never plans for him to play during the regular season. This team isnt building for the future, they want to win now.

I dont buy into the idea of how they feel. This is the same coach who watched Cromartie get burned for weeks and only made a change on injury.

That said Petty is a 4th rounder who isnt ready. Hes not a starter yet and who knows if he ever will be. They made that abundantly clear. Other offseason comments

He could be an option," Bowles said of Petty. "If [Fitzpatrick] doesn't sign back, a lot of people could be an option. Obviously, we'll try to sign the player back, but after that, we have different plans in place. There are options that are available for us. You want everything to work out fine, but if it doesn't work out fine, you better have Plan B, C, D in effect — and then you've got to still win with those plans as well."

"Bryce got better as the year went on, he started to understand it a little better," Bowles said. "We're happy with his progress and we look forward to seeing him do better this spring."

None of which sounds like hes ready ornthey want him to play.

Geno was the starter till he got punched. TB is an old school Bill Parcells coach. He likes having vets, hes made that abundantly clear with other roster choices. That doesn't mean they dont want Geno, he wants to win and hes gonna go with the best choice there is in his mind. That being said, theyre clearly learning from RR mistakes on young qbs and they are not rushing them. You may have a point next season but not this one.

Talk is cheap. Follow the money and look at the actions the Jets have taken. They don't have a high opinion of Geno.

I'm not saying he won't be on the roster, but I won't be surprised in the least if he isn't.
