I wouldn't even go that far. If Quigley - or Bobby April for that matter - had half an ounce of brain, he wouldn't have kicked in the direction of Sproles. Better yet, with such a dynamic returner in the waiting, Jets should have opted to kick the ball out of the bounds in each and every one of their punts. Things unraveled quickly AFTER Sproles TD, not before. Jets run attack was not moving well, but the offense was still moving here and there; and you could feel that Jets would kick a FG at minimum if Jets D could stop the Eagles offense; then Sproles returned the punt for 89 yards. We all knew Fitzpatrick was a limited QB, and that Jets can't play with 2 scores down. Offense was moving the ball - somewhat sluggishly, but they were moving. Defense was holding stout. The special team fucked up the game royally. Jets had to move away from their original game plan. I really cannot blame Fitzpatrick or Gailey for the Eagles game.
What I like is that the offense has scored just before halftime in every game this year. In the past, the Jets had been giving up TD's at the end of the second quarter. Now they are scoring TD's (in one case a field goal) within the 2:00 minute warning. Take a look at this past game. We score at the end of the half and then on the first possession of the third quarter. The game is changed completely.
If we all agree that Fitz is limited and some think he is seriously deficient, then how can we not give Gailey an A+. The team is 3-1, and has scored 95 points in 4 games. 23.0 points a game is pretty good under those conditions.
I admit, I wasn't thrilled at the beginning when his name was being floated as OC. I was even less pleased that it seemed to take some arm-twisting to even get him off the couch and onboard at all. However, I think he's been good for the players they have in place, and I suspect, he's been a good sounding board for a first-time HC like Bowles. As far as his play calling goes, he seems to play to his group's strengths and doesn't try to get cute and outsmart the opponent. The fact that he seems to have no interest in anything wildcat-related is another plus. Only downside that I see so far is his uselessness for TE's. I would love to see a guy utilize the middle of the field even in more of a possession type role than a seam splitting downfield TE. That would be my only legitimate gripe - solid 'B' job so far.
B. In three out of four games, he made calls based on our strengths. In the game where he was just all over the place with his calls, we lost.
We probably would if Jace Amaro wasn't out for the year. This is why I wouldn't mind trading for Michael Bennett.
I think he's done a good job so far. To be in the middle of the pack in both yards and points after 4 games is more than I expected actually.
