He is already running Darnold ... they should have gone for the throat in the 3rd but they got bowlesed (ie: pussed out) Who the frak plays prevent defense in the third quarter.
That isn't a very pretty stat at all. Seems his teams don't know how to close out games and finish. Looking at another 5-11 if we're lucky. Good thing there's no mandate to do anything except show "improvement". At least the team is competitive for 30mins out of 60..
My biggest worry is Chris Johnson not making any significant moves for the sake of "continuity". Besides, if he makes a radical move after just extending Bowles and Macc he'd be admitting a huge mistake. It took Macc how long to let Smith and Hackenberg go? These are the guys who are driving this train now and they're always right. Here's a question: We're 3 games in and do you think we're getting proper return on our $72mil investment (gamble) ???
Fisher getting fired by the Rams after he got extended gives me some hope. As for Trumaine, so far not so good. But he has 13 games to turn it around. My biggest fear is that Macc continues to "patch" up the OL with low end FA's and mid round picks.
Nah, leave it for now. A few more of like this though and we should lock this and start the official pitchfork and torch thread. Maybe billboard boy will reappear
No offense but what game were you watching. I knew at 14 -0 that this undisciplined team would F-up because under this coach this is what they do. They play hard because they are young ...not because of anything this HC and his shitty staff has done. They play undisciplined ...look at last weeks 3rd down and 19 where you have the star safety leaving his man to freelance.... TB has NO control over his players and there is NO accountability at all. When Fitz was here and throwing 6 - as in SIX picks this coach left him in the game after 4 when anyone in the right mind would have benched him. He continues to NOT bench players that continue to mis-assignments, repeat mistakes and penalties .... that is coaching. IMHO he should be fired immediately because he has proven by his record, his demeanor and most of all the team play that he is INCAPABLE of making this team better as in coaching this team up. This team is playing exactly the same as last year...NO improvement. That in and of itself is an indictment to be fired...
One of my big gripes with Bowles is he needs to show some passion. Get fired up on occasion, get angry at a bad call, celebrate when we do something well. Hes like a statue out there. I understand the concept of never getting too high or too low, but occasionally get in someones face that screws up, or go hug someone and congratulate them. Instead he's probably mumbling on the sideline to everyone in a monotone voice just like in any interview hes ever done. blech
Has Bowles ever benched a player for dumb penalties? I mean every week he says we need to cut down on penalties, then they have boneheaded penalties and he leaves them in the game. make a statement for once! last night if he benched either veteran Crowell or Tru Johnson for their dumb ass penalties, maybe it would be a valuable statement in that locker room. Instead of trotting them back out there and then promising to change next week. Also, WHY does this team get so many defensive holding penalties?
How has Bowles stuck around so long?? I'll tell you how. Because the talent on this team has been so shitty that it has made it difficult to fairly assess his performance. But I have seen enough. I just cannot defend this guy any more. How does one team manage to get it wrong every single time with choosing a Head Coach??
Because we had a shithead for an owner? Because we've never had a President of Football Ops? Because we never hire HC's who were prior HC's (Or GM's for that matter)? Because______________________ .
Well last night was quite the nightmare. Almost literally, for me. It started at 1:20am over here. Yawn. Like everyone else, I saw the writing on the wall whilst we were 14-0 up. Which is probably the most damning thing of all - to be 14-0 up against a team who haven't won in two years and still feel certain that you are going to lose. I should've went back to bed. I'm not going to bother with the usual complaints - the utter constipation of an offence or the defence unable to get a 4th quarter stopped (probably because they zap all their energy flying about in the 1st quarter). But 3 plays stunned me in their incompetence: The 2 pt conversion. Not the flag on their first attempt (which was predictable). But the throw to Mayfield was sooo telegraphed. I'm an idiot, and I could see what was going to happen about 5 seconds before it did. It wasn't concealed well at all. And - in those few seconds before it landed in his arms - some thoughts flashed into my head: this is the exact same play as the Superbowl. Everyone saw it. They can't be trying that. Surely every defence is alert to it now. Right? RIGHT??? And the ball floated to Mayfield, with no-one close to him. It's made all the worse by then finding out that Mayfield caught the exact same play in HIS LAST GAME. The first play of our 2 minute drive to save the game. Again, I'm an idiot. And yet I - and everyone on twitter - reckoned it was going to be a screen pass to a wide receiver. If we can figure it out, there's a fair chance the opposition will to. What chance does Darnold have with that playcalling? Finally, our last parp of an offence in the dying seconds. Darnold throws a nice completion to gain 25 yards or so. Spike the ball. Spike the ball. Spike the ball. You're seriously expecting your rookie QB, only 21, playing in his THIRD game, to be able to diagnose pressure and coverage within 5 seconds?? Really?? Give the guy a chance. They set him up to look like an utter fool. Spike the ball and give him 40 seconds to regroup for the love of everything holy. I thought - over and above the usual incompetencies - those 3 plays were genuinely stunning in their horror. I'd sack ALL involved (Bowles, Rogers, Bates) for them alone. And because, yet again, I stayed up till 5am watching that turgid pish.
No adjustments. None. Never. Good on the Browns for making adjustments at half and attacking a team that was playing not to lose. This is Bowles though in a nutshell, this really isn't anything new. More disturbing for me is Bates' absolutely dreadful play calling. We ran a sweep to the left 2 plays in a row. This is the NFL, not Madden. Are you kidding me???? We didn't try and open the field until the last 2 drives. No wonder Sam threw picks on both those drives. You can't wait until the 4th quarter to throw a 10 yard pass. I know it was a short week but come on, you gotta have more plays then what we had last night.
Thanks for those numbers. They're atrocious. I wonder what the numbers are for games where the Jets winning by no more than seven or tied at the half? He's not Rich Kotite. But he's the Jets coach right behind him, in terms of being terrible, since I've been a fan.
Maybe Bowles' seat is getting warm. https://www.sny.tv/jets/news/despit...-jets-is-todd-bowles-isnt-that-safe/295484040
The flip side of that coin is an 11 and 24 team was in games 11 times in the second half of games. What a great coach. He kept an 11 and 24 team in games in the second half. In 2 or the last 3 AFC championship games we were in we were leading at halftime. Against Denver, Parcells had a 10 point lead at halftime we were blown out in the second half 23 to Zip. In the 2009 AFC Championship game Ryan had a 17-13 lead at halftime we lost 30 to 17. The next year the same Ryan team got blown out in the first half by Pittsburgh came back and lost in the second half. Was Ryan a better head coach when he got blown out from the beginning of the game or was he better when the Colts took his team apart after halftime? Was Parcells out coached by Denver's adjustments? Parcells is in the HOF. Let me ask you an honest question. Which team last night had the better over all personal? Which team was on the road and which team was home on a short week? Which team had tape on a QB in real NFL games to prepare a game plan and which team didn't? What team came out ready to play with a game plan and executed. Mayfield took us apart. The D ran out of gas. Darnold was on the run all night. We were in the game with a chance to win on the last drive. Was the coaching great to get us a lead and stink to lose us the game? Todd Bowles may well deserve to be fired. You're logic isn't the reason why. I've watched about 12 games this year already. The overall play in the NFL early in the year with a couple of exceptions has been awful and wildly inconsistent. Defensive players look gassed in the 2nd half of games league wide. In case you missed it the NFL has restricted practice, young unprepared kids are drafted into the league and forced to start. The rules change and the officials can't figure out what a catch is or an illegal hit. TV timeouts can break momentum and change the results of games across the league. Here's the one thing I hang my hat on. The Jets have lots of holes in their roster and guys played hard. Get over it and move on to next week. FYI Browning Naglle sucked.
