So you think 8-8 or better or heads roll? I want to be clear on exactly what you are stating. Too many people make vague statements and not really say anything.

Wanting to see the team win and have coaching competency is talking nonsense? Teams can rebuild and compete and the same time, maybe you don't see any talent on the team but I do and I expect them to win this season ... Bowles is supposed to be a defense guru ... well let's see it. He has first round picks at every layer of the defense and top tier talent at the CB position. If they keep getting beat deep all season and create 10 turnovers what will be your silly little excuses?

College coaches are risky. He's a solid coach but I wonder if he would leave that cushy job at Stanford.

Yeah.. and you're one of 'em

Let's pin down what you're saying... the plan all along was to be a playoff contender in 2019 so it doesn't matter what happens this year.

    Do I have that right?

When they signed that 2 year extension through 2020, yes. That’s exactly what cj signed off on.
Nice job answering a question with a question

  6. Im not so sure about that. My issues w Bowles have little to do w the record truth to be told. And thats because of what you alluded to above. The rebuild stood in the way of that sort of progress.

My issues are what im seeing on the field going into year 4..especially on defense. And thats not to exonerate the offense bc hes on his 3rd OC in 4 years. The gameplans are vanilla, the defensive scheme is subpar, the overall team demeanor is stiff & sleepy..beyond that he gives so little in press conferences to suggest a larger vision or further insight. We’re forced to judge solely on what we see.And even looking far beyond the talent level the coaching aspects have been below average.

Hes had rosters w alot of different distributions of talent & circumstances yet the product continues to look the same. Im to the point where im starting to think it doesnt matter who we bring in for talent; That the product we see is all we’re gonnna get.and if thats the case as the talent level continues to improve Bowles will be holding us back. I hope im wrong.

I don't think the decision on Bowles will be based upon the record - unless disaster strikes and they win less than 3-4 games, then it will be. I think the Johnsons will look and see if the team is making progress, and especially if Darnold is given a chance to succeed with the game plans and play calling. If Bowles is still punting on 4th down instead of giving the offense a chance to win; if he's still mismanaging time outs; if he's still not holding players truly accountable; then I think he's gone, and he well should be.

My fault. I thought you were able to differentiate between the conversations a coach has with his players and the gm and coach have with the owner.
And note you still haven’t answered my question

Agreed, they will move forward based on what’s best for Sam ( what they think is best for Sam anyway)
But right now I think they will be very disappointed if they feel
    Like Bowles has to go.

    To answer your question:

No, it's not specifically about the record... if the team goes 7-9 heads don't have to roll. I want to see the defense create more turnovers, get off the field on thirds downs more often and overall better game planning. If these things happen the record will speak for itself. 11 turnovers for the season and a scorched secondary are no longer acceptable.. if we continue to see the same old mistakes and predictable / easily beatable defensive schemes then heads should roll.

Like any boss/owner, they don't want to admit they made the wrong choice. They can live in denial a long time under that mentality. But after 4 years of almost no real progress, it should be obvious this season what Bowles is capable of. I would love to be surprised, but I don't think I will be.

And here's the thing: those who attack Bowles and those who defend them want the same thing: a Jets SB Trophy. At the end of the day, let's not forget that.

That’s a bit different from what you said when this conversation started.
But ok, I can somewhat get on board with this. I think it will have more to do with what’s best for Sam myself.

See, I think you are projecting your own feelings with that first paragraph.
I don’t think they are trying to save pride/ego. I think cj is really all in on what Mac and Bowles sold him to get those extensions. 2 year deals were unnecessary unless there was some kind of plan layed out

I’m assuming there is data that backs up such a confident assertion?

I do agree with you.. the mindset should be what's best for Sam in the future, but not at the price of sacrificing today. I don't think the Jets making the playoffs is a ridiculous scenario.

LOL, right? For all the bitching about Bowles sucking as a HC we won a lot more games than anyone realistically looking at the roster should and did predict. But to some this indicates nothing. I was told I have low expectations. Because I said we won more than we should have? This means we need a new HC? How?

The best is the idea that thinking we'll go 8-8, 9-7 somewhere near there is settling. Too funny

When youre as unrealistic as you are its worse. That you tell others they have low expectations is much worse that nonsense. Teams dont gut their entire roster and play a rookie QB, no matter who he is, how good and expect to go straight to the playoffs and win. Thats unrealistic and to complain about that scenario is silly.

Youre right about Bowles defense. Lets see. Its predicated on CBs who can cover in man to allow the league highest blitz %. Hasnt had that up to now, we'll see. These arent "silly little excuses" Anymore than the bullshit "He has first round picks at every layer of the defense" pure fail.

Dont talk down to anyone over expectations, drafts and defense as if you know what youre talking about.

Well said. The bold is completely spot on. The measure of retaining a coach extends far beyond the win and loss record for 2018. If this year the defense ingratiates us once again with the progressively sub par performance of the last 3 consecutive years, and the schemes are just as un imaginative, and the mindless penalties on that side of the ball abound, the DC needs to be fired on the spot and if the HC does not want to do that he needs to go too. We made 3 changes in the OC position, yet we keep the same pathetic approach to coaching on the defense. As a result we have gotten worst on each subsequent year. What is it going to take to see that the defense is piss poorly coached? Apparently is more than just the DC.
