If they end up keeping Mac, which looks to be the likely case, I guess the only way for success is to let him hire the coach and let him save his own job. I don't think the Jets will ever hire a Pres of Football Operations, but it would be nice.
The Jets cycling futilely through GM's and coaching staffs? Or Bowles and Mac showing no promise of improving the team from year to year? I'm honestly curious which of these glaring examples of ineptitude you're referring to.
I totally understand your concern/fears that things could get worse, because things can always be worse, and with the Johnson Brothers making the decision, it's more likely that things would get worse rather than better. Still, I firmly believe that we'll never get better with Mac, and imo, we have no other choice but to roll the dice and hope that they will have realized that they are not competent and will hire someone to run the team. I think the problem last time is that Charlie Casserly was involved. They should have consulted with Ron Wolf. Ron worked for the Jets, and they should know what he did with and for the Packers. I think they should just offer the VP of Football Ops job to Ron Wolf and tell him that he will be free to hire his son Elliot.
I don't think Macc is totally to blame for this mess. Its the coaching of Bowles. Macc only gets the players. Its the coaching staff job to train them up and have them prepared. He was NFL Executive of The Year so he has some skill. Bowles can't figure out penalty calls. One is competent in his job (moved up for Darnold) and the other is not 3 straight year of losing uninspired, downright lousy football. Its that simple
I like it. Along those lines, why wait till year end to do it. Wouldn't that further impair the new guy influence in the draft? Or maybe they want to have the tandem (GM/HC) selected so they can jointly redirect the draft focus. Although with any scenario OL has to be top priority.
Probably so. Yet, like it or not we have been living scared or in total denial under this incompetent leadership too long to remember. Any organization where the fans want to tank for a draft pick after game six is just one of the symptoms of living scared. Year after year. Having J&J as owners and continue to support their shit show in the hopes they get it right some day is no way too live either, it is eternal denial.
I agree with this, however, we didn't do that last time (IIRC Mac didn't have any input when Bowles was hired) and I don't know how we would change our system of the GM & HC reporting directly to the owner
It is possible that another head coach could come here and make Macs picks look good too. I wouldn't count that out as a possibility. I hope its that easy and we don't need to clean house. Here's the problem. When the entire org backs Bowles and defends him, it shifts the blame off of him and everyone takes the heat equally. I don't know for sure if it is poor drafting or just bad team management until I can compare this team when coached under someone else. Considering half of Macs picks aren't even on the team (or play for any other teams for that matter), I have to think everyone is to blame for this mess.
We have to get way better Management That started for the Browns when the Owners were smart enough to hire Dorsey as GM..he cleaned house of HC and OC and now management has a clue how to use talent like Mayfield...this is what should happen here if the Johnsons finally wake up ...but keeping things the way they are is just their stupidity The whole argument of players that suck or whether MM sucks or TB is just ridiculous We all know it ALL sucks
