need to do the 2nd half still.

Also not on the ground when the WR breaks free. he was just getting contacted
    [IMG]

slighty better blocking and it's a big play nobody is behind berrios and he's wide open

here he is calling for it as zach is trying to escape still.

    2nd half drive stalls

drive 1: we start with the ball down 17 to stat the half. 1st play ZW throws a great ball to davis for 14 yards. a little behind him which is good to protect him from the safety coming in for a big hit. davis drops it. carter picks up 8 on 2nd down run to make it 3rd and 2. we burn a timeout as well before the play. then on 3rd and 2 zach has davis open with a nic throwing lane but opts for moore and the pass gets batted down by a LBer in that lane. bad decision on ZW. pressure was coming so he had to release it early which made it so moore didn't have a clean lane to be thrown too. this drive was a combo of a davis drop, bad protection, and ZW not seeing the open man.

drive 2: Now we are down 20-0 so this game is pretty much fucked for us at this point. You can tell we are trying to protect wilson. we start off with 2 runs for 9 yards then a QB sneak for 2 yards and a fresh set of downs. then we run again that gets blown up for a loss of 7. carter is hit as soon as he gets the ball 7 yards in the backfield. GVR gets completely blown up. now it's 2nd and 17. we do a quick safe throw over the middle to a TE for 5 yards making it 3rd and 12. a very low probability play to get. ZW misfires high to moore but he would have been 5 yards short anyway and pocket was collapsing. This one is on the o-line mostly GVR for that big negative play on 1st and 10 that put us in a hole we can't get out of.

drive 3: still down 20 with 3 mins left in the 3rd, but we start at the 41 thanks to a partially tipped punt. we start off with a jet sweep to moore who gains 3 but gets leveled and suffers a concussion and is done for the game. on 2nd and 7 protection is good and ZW finds berrios for 22 yards. our biggest play of the day and it happens when we have good blocking and berrios who hasn't dropped passes and just produces for us. on 1st and 10 we run a nice easy TE screen which gains 8, but AVT gets called for illegal man downfield. rookie mistake and now it's 1st and 15. good protection and ZW completes it to cole for 7 yards making it 2nd and 8. follows up with a quick throw to davis for 4 making it 3rd and 4. good job after 1st and 15 to get into a 3rd and short. we run it and pick up 3 making it 4th and 1. clearly we were not taking a FG here but are in range. on 4th and 1 ty johnson drops it on the RB angle that would have been a 1st. This one was killed mostly by the ty drop on 4th

drive 4: Now we are down 23-0 with 6:41 left in the game. clearly a loss. he starts again with safe throws. dump off to the RB who gains 11 with some nice moves. then hits cole for around 16 yards on a comeback route. then a quick pass dump off to ty johnson that was a low throw but catch-able and dropped. then on 2nd and 10 he gets picked and this one is all on zach. protection was good but he started down davis and the DB baited him and then jumped the route and picked it off. he had a wide open dump off to a RB as well who would have gained at least 6 or 7 maybe more.

drive 5: we start at our own 37 after the defense forced a fumble in the red zone and returned it to the 37. but there is only 3:39 left and we are down by 23. we start off with a safe pass. dump off to berrios for 4 yards. then on 2nd and 6 he tries to dump it off to ty johnson but bad throw way too short and not catchable. on 3rd and 6 the o-line fails and zach escapes and throws it away to avoid the sack making it 4th and 6. on 4th and 6 zach has 0 chance and is instantly smothers in a sack. they sent 5 rushers against 6 blockers (RB stayed in) the RB picks up a blitzer but whiffs. GVR blocks nobody. fant did good but AVT and mcgovern fail at a double team and that guy plus the guy who blew past the RB instantly swallow zach. this drive died thanks to the o-line

drive 6: we take over down 26 with 1 min left. it starts off with ZW completing a 12 yard out to davis. would have had a 2nd 12 yard out to davis but he drops it. ten he completes a 13 yard out to jeff smith. then he scrambles and throws one to a wide open berrios who drops it and is picked off. this one is on berrios.

So overall the offensive issues weren't playcalling and ZW actually played better then the stats would say. he had 1 bad play all game which was the 1st INT and at that point the game was already lost. it was mostly drops and the o-line. mostly davis and ty johnson but carter had a bad drop too early on and berrios had one that didn't affect the game but gave zach a 2nd INT on the stat sheet.

I never once saw any poster here make any claim even remotely resembling that. We thought he'd be solid and maybe pretty good, after working under Shanahan and seeing the job his brother is doing in GB, but as a first-time OC most knew it would take some time for him to learn and develop, the same as Zach.

    and

Yes, it's too soon to fire him, and since he's a close friend of Saleh's, I don't see that happening any time soon, but he definitely needs to make some big changes.

Why hasn't Wesco been used more since he's supposedly the FB? Is he that awful? If so, then don't waste a roster spot on him.

I've been complaining about his not using Mims for weeks now.

Yes, the offense should be tailored to fit the talents we have. That's where LaFleur's inexperience is hurting the team and Zach. That's why I wanted an experienced OC like Brian Daboll as the HC. With the poor play of our OL, there should definitely be more rollouts, and more short, quick passes. If the players can only remember 5-10 plays, then only run those plays in practice and demand perfect execution. Be like Vince Lombardi and the old Packers. Everyone knew what was coming, but they could't stop the Packers because they out-executed everyone. Once those plays are rock solid and working, then he can slowly add additional plays, but execution has to be improved markedly and the offense needs to be tailored to the talents of the players we have, taking into consideration their strengths as well as their weaknesses. The problem is that LaFleur probably doesn't know how to do that yet.

If the whole season continues to go this way, then LaFleur definitely needs to go, but I'd be willing to bet that it won't happen.

Why feel bad for him? It's up to him to make sure that they execute in games. He also decides (along with the position coaches) who starts and plays. He can overrule the position coach. Bench Davis and start Mims. Run only the plays that Mims knows. Practice them every day until the players drop with exhaustion and boredom, but run them until they get them right and execute flawlessly.

Mullens may know the offense, but his career accuracy is worse than what Zach's is. He doesn't have a lot of arm talent, and if the receivers drops his passes like they do Zach's, then his accuracy would be 10-20% lower than Zach's.

Great, so he did his job, but the play still failed miserably because he allowed a free rusher to proceed unimpeded. Great! That's like winning the battle, but losing the war. Get rid of this moron along with GVR! Enough is enough!

I don't give a shit about this scheme. If you're an OL and not blocking anyone in your gap, then you turn your ass around and block the defender that's in another gap. It's that simple! If this scheme doesn't allow for that, then it's the stupidest scheme ever and both the scheme and the moron that devised it should be trashed.

I guess AVT if the call was to slide the protection right. Way to throw your rookie teammate under the bus.

Unfortunately, yes. McGovern's job was to provide support to GVR on the right side (and we all know he needs it). AVT was supposed to pick up the gap left by McGovern.
McGovern will be fine once the guys on either side of him are sorted out. AVT should only get better. When Becton returns, they should seriously consider moving him to the right side and sliding Moses inside. Fant is playing well at LT. It will take a few games for Moses and Becton to get situated, but it's got to be better than what they're doing right now.

Doesn't matter - Joe Douglas says it's not needed. Anybody have a problem with that?

I'd like to see the entire play, but by the looks of it, that 340 pound nose tackle was likely lined up between AVT and McGovern. Help to Van Roten's side or not, the center needs to get a hand on that dude that he can literally touch before the balls snapped. I don't see any blitz on this?

It's just a still but there doesn't seem to be any reason for him to take a hard step to fan out like that.

I don't get it though? Two coaching regimes, three different centers (Kalil, Harrison and now McGovern) and no one can figure out who to block? Our line calls were at least competent when Harrison was in there too.

Watching Dallas literally destroy Philly D! Dallas play calling is really refreshing to watch after watching 3 weeks of putrid offense. Either Philly D is that bad, or Dallas is executing on O. Probably both, but I am impressed with game plan and play calling, the Dallas OC is young, but light years ahead of lafleur.

Looks obvious, he is blocking no one and Wilson is getting pummeled. If doing your job is that then we all missed the boat. The job is to protect Wilson as a team at all costs. We really have some weak links on this line, and they don’t play as a unit very well. Even with Becton.
