There are some similarities in the situations with Zach and Burrow, but only a few. Cincy's HC (Zach Taylor) at least had one year experience as HC of the Bengals, whereas Saleh had none. He is also as former OC, so that would help with a young QB. Cincy's OC, Brian Callahan, had 11 years experience, so that's a HUGE difference. In addition, to my knowledge, Callahan isn't running such a complex offense that is difficult for any player to learn, much less a rookie. Jim Turner, their OL coach, had been with the team since 2019, so the OL wasn't transitioning to a new blocking scheme. There were 2-3 new starters on their OL last year, but I don't think any were as bad as GVR. I'm not worried about the jump in level of competition at all. He's smart and he will adjust. Wilson isn't as athletic as Fields, Lawrence, or Lance, but he doesn't have to be. He is primarily a pocket passer, and imo he has more arm talent, is more accurate, has the subtle nuances of the QB position down whereas those three do not, and can read Ds better. I believe that he does have the accuracy of Mahomes and Rodgers and has similar intuition. He will get stronger. Lawrence is taller, but too skinny for his height, and isn't even in the same league as Wilson in terms of accuracy. I believe that I am right about Wilson. I've watched every game he played the last two years at BYU and may have even seen games from his freshman season. I've read everything I could that the experts have said about him. I have never felt as confident in a player as I do Wilson. Still, I could be wrong, as I have been wrong before, and am sure I will be again about football players, but I don't think so about Wilson.
Exactly! I don't care about wins and losses this season. Like you, this season is all about Zach Wilson. Nothing else really matters to me except that I want to see improvement and progress each week. They need to get the OL fixed pronto. If Zach winds up getting seriously injured or becomes David Carr because of the beating he is taking, then I'm seriously going to want LaFleur's head on a pike outside 1 Jets Plaza, and I won't care if he goes on to become a HOF HC elsewhere. He's here now, and he'd better do his damn job, or I'll want to kneecap the SOB, and Saleh for hiring him.
Amazing how much better the offense looks when the OL protects Wilson and LaFleur rolls him out more.
I still don’t like him and his pass heavy scheme, there is a time when a good running game closes out the game and he just refuses to commit to the running game.
I think there is a lot to fix still but today was a huge improvement. They actually rolled Wilson out of the pocket multiple times
LaFleur still in my doghouse with some horrible calls But with this Defense we got going all you need is a small lead to win Can our OC do the job?? Yes Falco ..the good news is there was a BIG improvement from team and CS
All I could have asked for in game 4. Show improvement! And they did! Give this team a chance. Again, that's all I ask for!
After first 3 games..I thought 0-17 was a real possibility Now I have absolutely no clue if thiss is our one win or not
We’ll win more. This team is not a talent deprived as those in recent history. The coaching staff just needed to get their sea legs.
I agree, Red. I'm also pissed that Mims barely saw the field and had no targets. Every other Jets possible receiver (WR, TE, RB) had a target but Mims. I'm at the point that I'm done with LaFleur. I don't care what he does, I despise the SOB and want him gone.
Some painful decisions today but sadly an improvement. Why are we not running any screen plays? No quick slants? You know, things that make the QBs life easy. He’s lucky Zach has a friggen studly arm because the game as called was shit.
They really owe the fan base to finally come forward about Mims. I have a feeling Saleh is covering for his boy here and there’s definitely some underlying tension between Mims and Schotty lite.
I love how Lafluer put the ball in Zach's hands to win the game in regulation and OT. A lot of OCs flinch and get conservative he did not. That 3rd and 10 that Zach missed to Davis was the right call and I applaud him for not running the ball and trying to end the game right there. The two jet sweeps to Berrios were quite effective and timely. The pass protection got cleaned up a lot. It was not great as Zach was still under a lot of pressure. Wilson did a really nice job avoiding pressure and running for his life and extending plays on a number of plays where things looked bad. We even converted a couple of 3rd and 1 running plays. I am so used to getting stuffed on those.
Those three 50-yard 'flick of the wrist' throws today will pay off in spades in games to come. Defensive Coordinators will lose sleep over how to attack the Jets. This game could open up the running game big time, as teams will hesitate to move their safties up to defend the run after seeing what Zach can do at any moment. Heck, it might even help LaFleur draw up some impressive game plans.....we'll see!
Think we'll see a lot of 8 or 9 men in the box looks after Zack hit a bunch of deep passes against the Titans?
His 2nd down playcalling is atrocious. Can we stop with the pitches? I have no gripes with him today outside of that. We scored 27 and Zach missed Davis on a throw that would have iced the game before OT.
