Couple things I noticed tonight: 1) J Davis is terrible and should not be starting. Mosley was seeing double teams and Davis still couldn’t make a play. Way outta position and running in quick sand. Shouldn’t have taken till the 4th quarter to bench him in favor of Quincy Williams who was making every kickoff tackle and at least showing life. 2) We ran Nickel D almost all game, even while the Colts were playing Double TE. That creates a lot of mismatches in favor of the O, and we already couldn’t stop the run. I genuinely believe we didn’t adjust there as we simply have no capable LBs necessary to have 3 out there, and no edge guys for a 3-4 which is better against run. 3) we struggle at S outside of Maye. If we let Maye walk, we gonna need 4 new safeties next offseason. What could go wrong with that? Hint we gonna have problems next year there also. Self imposed.
The D is gonna be trash the rest of the season now with Maye out by the way, wasn’t this defensive line supposed to be good?
When you have talented guys who are playing, as an entire unit, embarrassingly bad, that's on the coaches. As for Maye, I don't think it would make a difference. Hell, we could have John Lynch or Troy Polamalu at safety and it wouldn't make a difference.
Is that the reason, or is it Zack Wilson isn't playing? I guess well see on that, i find it odd that the offense does a 180, just because the OC moved to a booth, at the same time wilson gets hurt
I'm not sure what CEO Robert Saleh's involvement in the defense is exactly, but it probably needs to be greater. This is 2 out of 3 games where they've looked like an FCS school playing Alabama in a tune-up game. I'm not firing anybody midway through year 1 of a season we knew was going to be tough (they shouldn't look as bad on D as they did last night, however). Look how quickly things turned for LaFleur in the past 12 days. IMO we need to see this team over a full season before making huge conclusions.
This may be a low bar, but I think our LBers are the weak link on D. Jarrad Davis and Del'Shawn Phillips stink.
I do actually think at this point that Ulbrich could be fired at the end of the season. The performance of the defensive line which is supposed to be the linchpin is so terribly inconsistent, these guys either show up as a group or disappear as a group. Unless Saleh is pulling a Rex and hanging out on the defensive side of the field all week (which would mean the "CEO-style HC" stuff was pure BS) then Ulbrich isn't doing his job. He kind of comes off as a meat head to me but I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. Now I see that I had no reason to. I could easily see him getting the axe.
I was optimistic about the Jets in 2021 and beyond because I felt the offense could catch up to the defense and then the Jets would be a solid team. Instead, the offense is progressing while the defense is regressing, and the Jets are still a terrible team. Ulbrich could definitely be fired at season's end if this keeps up. No way Saleh can be happy about it.
I feel like they need to put the firecracker Quincy Williams back In. The dude lit a fire with his teammates just by his passionate play style. I know It's not that simple but the defense looked so much better without JD In there. Just sayin..
I don't know that Jarrad Davis' career highlight reel is as good as what Quincy Williams has done this year, probably not. His absence is felt.
Fundamentals. Worst running team in the NFL. Allow them to run for 100+ yards. Fire Jeff Ulbrich today and raise the average coaching IQ a few points.
Im usually against year one firings, but the defense is terrible and he's not even running out the best people like Jarrod and Ashtyn
