that's just not true, we had a good roster- top 10 roster but it was not extraordinary. If it was we would have won the SB.

cmon Junc, most of the guys here understand the concept of team, and that's what mangini and Mike T were, THEY did a good job drafting and putting together the 2009-20010 roster.

They did not get every pick right, but who does?

It's your right to not want to give Mangini credit, but for goodness sake man, if another poster wants to give him a little credit for contributing to those rosters let it be.

    WR Justin McCareins
    WR Santana Moss
    TE Anthony Becht
    LT Jason Fabini
    LG Pete Kendall
    C Kevin Mawae
    RG Brandon Moore
    RT Kareem McKenzie

    Defense
    LDE Shaun Ellis
    LDT Dewayne Robertson
    RDT Jason Ferguson
    RDE John Abraham
    LLB Victor Hobson
    MLB Jonathan Vilma
    RLB Eric Barton
    LCB Donnie Abraham
    RCB David Barrett
    SS Reggie Tongue
    FS Erik Coleman

I am not bashing Mangini but this notion that he was the one responsible is silly. did he help? I am sure he did, a lot of the draft is luck.

The issue is that there is a contingent that seem to want to give him too much credit. They are easily recognizable as they are the ones that like to boast that Rex did it with "Mangini's roster" while discrediting/bashing the responsible GM, QB and Rex in the process.

Ask yourself this. Do the '09/'10 teams have any offense at all without the dominant offensive line & running game provided by the Tanny/Mangini era? Does the '09 team have a shot in fucking hell at playoffs without 607 rushing attempts?

Say what you want about Tanny but he is a wheeler dealer, he isn't afraid to make moves.
He may have learned from his mistakes with the contracts he gave out while with the Jets, you never know.

True but not entirely true. 2011 the team should have made the playoffs, but coaching and poor play cost us. 2012 we lost Revis for 15 games, Holmes for 12, Keller for 8, and despite that the Jets were in postseason contention up until week 15.

Im not saying Tannenbaum is a great GM but the guy was a lot better than most around the league.

If we want to trade down I think I know who wants to trade up.

Does the 16th ranked 08 defense has any chance of becoming the 1st overall defense in 09 w/o Rex?

And you want to know why you guys were so upset about 2012? (where we were missing 3 key plays the majority of the season)

BECAUSE Tannenbaum raised the expectations around here. Tannenbaum made this into a playoff caliber franchise, we were expecting as fans to make it every year. The first season in which we were not in contention week 17, you all flipped on him. Why? because the bar that Tannenbaum raised, did himself in. We had realistic expectations of winning a Super Bowl under his tenure, we did not accept mediocrity, the Jets didnt accept mediocrity, so one 6-10 season was considered an absolute failure.

you know they had a HOF QB in 2008 and couldn't make the playoffs despite facing one of the weakest scheds ever and we watched our former QB who we threw away take a team half as talent to the div title and playoffs.

Of course not. But Rex inherited a team that had some very strong pieces to work with. Is his defense #1 without the #1 running game? Probably not.

So that negates the point I made? Typical junk.

Of course Rex turned the defense around and made the team better. That doesn't mean he didn't inherit something that made that run possible. If Favre hadn't retired we may have been in the superbowl in 09 & 10.

Regardless of how everything played out, ultimately ended.

I hope he does good there, I like Mr. T for the most part but he made a lot of crucial errors towards the end of his tenure with the Jets. He got away from the things he was good at, he took some risks that just didn't pay off in the end, which ultimately cost him his job.

I hope he does good, fuck the Dolphins, but I wish Mr. T the best in his future.

and we also may not have made a single title game w/ him b/c Favre would take too many dumb chances. Favre leaving us was the best thing for us, coming here cost us a div title.
