all my friends laughed at me for taking Andrew Dice K with my first pick in our fantasy draft (10th pick overall). and yes, i did kind of draft him that high as a joke, but seriously, he's going to be sick this year. What a first outing. Think they'll let him pitch the 8th? Hell yeah ShadeTree...Dice K in the first round, all the way
Wow! I am at work still, but I can't wait to watch it when I get back. How did he look? Was his stuff nasty?
He looked pretty good. A little shaky at times, but there was a stretch of 10 straight outs where he looked untouchable. His fastball was only at about 90-92, and he didn't throw too many splitters. Curve looked phenomenal. His location was generally spot on, with a couple mistakes. Overall though, I'm quite pleased.
Greinke IMO was the story of the day. Comes back from depression to own the Red Sox for 7 innings. Matsuzaka was good, but I'm more excited to see him when it gets warm.
Well, as you probably know, Greinke was a top prospect a couple years ago. He lost his way last year as he battled depression. He still may very well become a top pitcher.
I'm pretty sure you're the only person outside of KC and his family that cares what Grienke did today. And it was only depression, it's not like he's coming back from schizophrenia or overcoming having one arm or something. EDIT: To clarify, I mean no one cares because he was overshadowed by Matsuzaka. For the record I'm a fan of Greinke and hope he fulfills his promise.
No doubt he had a good outing but that probably needs to be tempered until there is a book on him and everybody has seen him at least once. He will be pitching a longer season with 1 less day rest between starts and it may take a toll. This was KC afterall. We'll see how he does in his next start.
Not to start an argument, but how do you Sox fans feel about the "caught stealing" that basically bailed out Matsuzaka? Had that guy not been erroneously called out, he would probably have scored on the ensuing double, tying the game at 2. (Now I'll disclaim that I didn't see it actually happen, but I did watch the replay on ESPN, and the guy looked clearly safe to me.)
not to tarnish Dice-K, but there are triple A teams with more major league ready players than the Kansas City Royals major league team.
I'm not sure if the call was correct or not. From one angle it looked like there was no way he was out, but from the back it looked like the runner's foot came up and the tag was there. Either way, the call was made and it is what it is. Did it save a run? If he was safe then yes, but they won by 3 anyway so it wouldn't have changed that.
He's still a pretty good pitcher. Look, I agree that the Royals couldn't of been a better team to start off against for Dice-K...What got overlooked was Greinke's performance after his problems, but understandable considering the hype surrounding today... I still say he'll have around 8 wins in the 1st half...Then just slowly fade and manage 15-16 wins, which wouldn't be so bad for a rookie...But none of this 18-20 wins crap.
