That could very well be Mahomes/Rodgers-like considering Rodgers didn't play early his career outside of practice, Mahomes sat his rookie year, and Mahomes was notorious for throwing interceptions in practice early in his career. (This could also be interpreted as an argument for sitting Wilson at first.)
It wasn't a thing. The Chiefs reporter made a big deal of one practice session in preseason as 3 ints. What he didn't mention is Reid wanted him to try things he would not do in a game so he could know what he could get away with.
No it suggests that the media take on the Jets right now is that they're desperate for a QB. Everybody knows the Jets 1st round QB picks always "win" the competition in camp and wind up spat out on the field game 1. That the Jets inability to find a QB over the years and one of the key reasons their draft picks have failed dovetail so nicely is just another wonderful piece in the SOJ puzzle. I'm getting old to be watching this crap every year. Maybe this is the year to turn off football the way I turned off baseball during the '94 NFL strike.
Yeah but stack that all up against the 35/65 pick that Wilson represents at #2 and I'd still take a chance on somebody more reliable busting at #2 and the Jets being forced to take better positional prospects at #23 and #34.
Come on, Colorado, you know this can't be a red flag. I mean he's been the #2 QB in this class going all the way back to the 2nd grade. Only Zach Wilson has red flags. Fields has only things can be improved upon and small flaws that one can only see with an electron microscope. There's no way some snotty-nosed rich kid from Utah who has no elite traits could possibly hope to compete with or be as good as the immortal Fields. I hear they're already measuring him for a gold jacket. You know, he's going to be a SUPERSTAR in the NFL. He can't possibly have any red flags. Any red that you see must be his OSU uniform. And Wilson? Pfft making quick decisions, getting the ball out quickly, and actually throwing the ball is old school. No one wants to do that any more. You know the NFL constantly is changing. The new ideal is to hold the ball as long as one possibly can and then either run with the ball or take a sack. They're going to start giving points to the offensive team when the QB takes a sack, and within a year or so, all NFL teams will be running the single wing offense and running the ball will be the bees knees.
But you're the guy (same with Kurt) doing backflips and cartwheels when we drafted Sam Darnold. It seems like the people who have DDS (Darnold Derangement Syndrome) can not let go of the fact that they may have been wrong on a QB pick. It's ok. We all make mistakes. Time to let it go and get 100% behind Zach Wilson, your new Jets QB! (unless he gets injured before the draft which is entirely possibly knowing our luck)
I monitored him closely that redshirt year and reports were that he was killing it. Anybody can have the occasional bad practice but you are framing it like he had some issues with interceptions that was solved in one year sitting. http://www.kansascity.com/sports/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/article192215154.html
I framed it in no such way. Mahomes was amazing from the start. First pre-season he already looked like a HOF player.
Damn looks like a real man hit him rather than a bunch of fourteen year olds. How long was he out for?
I thought the questions posed were good ones in that they covered the key things people want/need to know about Wilson. And I thought that even though the BYU guy obviously has a bias, he didn't just answer every question with "Zach Wilson is great", he did point out some concerns, or at least acknowledged that some concerns that people have are appropriate to have a concern about.
I can’t see too many trade partners willing to trade for the second pick with a package that will still land us a QB on the first round.
Not sure why you gave him the satisfaction of responding. He’s been cracking some not so subtle and off putting epilepsy wise cracks since the news broke. Let’s not post a picture of Wilson wearing a Patriots hat though cause that’s below the belt. LOL
For one thing, there's very little chance Jones will be available at #23. If you wait until the 20's to take a QB in this draft you're likely looking at Mond or Trask. Do we really want the 5th or 6th QB taken? As others have said the guy at #2 could easily bust as well. Busting is the norm, even for high first round picks. QB's bust at slightly higher rates but not enough where a team should be hesitant to take one. As I stated before QB is literally 3-4X more important to wins and losses than even the 2nd most important position (WR). QB is about 5-6X more important than most other positions. That's not an exaggeration either, QB is that much more important. So, with that in mind, you take the best QB at #2 and you do your best to surround him with playmaking receivers and a good OL.
Yeah that crew was not as super high on Wilson as the rest of the fans riding the hype train or as TGG Wilson supporters would call it they use to “shit” on Wilson.
I do remember, and again, I'm NOT saying that he'll be just like Mahomes. I too saw what Patrick could do, and his arm strength was/is uncanny which allows him to "get away with" throws that other QBs can't even consider. But that Cool Your Jets podcast where the BYU guy has watched him since he was in HS noted that when he first got to BYU he got burned by trying to make throws he easily made in HS. I believe he'll learn what he can and can't do in the NFL pretty quickly too. From what I've seen he can make every throw he needs to and he can make them accurately, which isn't always a given for even pretty good QBs. They said Darnold could make every throw too, but he had nowhere near the accuracy that Wilson has (that goes for Allen as well, even now IMO). In any case, I still think it would be best if Wilson can sit for a bit. I think had Darnold been able to do that it would've made a big difference for him.
