Well contrary to some he does NOT have an arm like Mahomes, but it's certainly above average IMO, and that's good enough if he makes the right decisions in using it.

If the weaker arm is from his surgery then I think we have something to worry about..

Yes, if that's the case it would be a concern - a dealbreaker probably. But I've seen him throw 60+ yards so if the arm is sound I don't see that as a problem.

The arm strength thing with Wilson is a weird one. I've seen multiple scouts I respect say he has a mediocre arm and I've seen multiple scouts I respect say he has a cannon. To me the truth is somewhere in between. I think he has a good enough arm. It's not on the level of an Allen or Mahomes but it's good. I mainly like him because he seems to be highly accurate on platform and off, shows good anticipation and rarely puts the ball in a place where it can be intercepted. He's also really decisive and usually delivers the ball to the best receiver available.

In all honesty, I can't remember seeing any of the things he says, but I will watch a lot more video on Wilson to see if he is right. If he is right, that will be reason for concern. At least his comments sound reasonable, and sound more reasonable in the abstract, although his comment about his uncle's wealth and needing to check his sense of entitlement sounds bogus.

Daniel Kelly was not really a scout. This article details how he got a job with the Jets: https://www.si.com/nfl/jets/news/ny-jets-daniel-kelly-nfl-scout-cancer-against-the-odds
He worked for the Jets for four years, did some work in pro player personnel, but also

"He would go on to spend four years with the Jets. Duties varied, from typing reports to player evaluations. Kelly would attend multiple NFL Combines as well as the combine for the old NFL Europe.

Anything to assess more players. Anything to help the Jets. He even drove agents to and from the airport during free agency."

He did analyze Mike Shanahan's opening 15 play script and gave that info to Belichick when the Jets played the Broncos in the AFC Championship Game in '98.

I think the guy is half nuts. He just tried to get a job with the Browns in scouting.

He writes a glowing report about Lawrence, yet questions his sense of entitlement, yet says that he is likely to be a bust as well.

IMO what this guys says doesn't deserve any credence whatsoever.

The thing is that even when he throws the ball 50-60 yards, it looks easy. It's just a flick of the wrist and the ball gets out of his hand quickly. I will look at the video of Wilson again, but I think this guy is wrong.

If you read it again top to bottom it says he was a scout in the Parcels era. Abyzmul also posted an article on how he got the job. Kinda impressive to be honest.

I don’t agree with everything he said. I watched the 2+ hour Wilson every throw/run from 2020 and my only real cause for concern was he under threw the end zone twice on a Hail Mary pass. That was a bit concerning. The other thing is that’s a bit worrisome is that he’s the 2nd ex professional scout I’ve now read that feels his arm isn’t very strong.

I felt early that he didn’t look like a NFL quarterback and then the more I watched the more I liked him because I felt he has the flair and I absolutely love his quick release and accuracy. I’m not sure he has the IT factor I feel Lawrence has. That’s that’s the big difference.

I've already edited and corrected the post you quoted. I was looking up the dude Damond something that owns Draft Diamonds rather than Daniel Kelly, but thanks.

He wasn't really a scout for the Jets. He fancies himself a scout, but imo doesn't begin to have what it takes. How can you rave about Trevor Lawrence in a your scouting report and then turn around and say he has a strong chance of being a bust? IMO that's borderline insane stuff.

Phil [Edit: I meant Chris] Simms played QB in the NFL and has aspirations to be an NFL GM he said that Wilson can make all the throws and has a very strong arm. That's good enough for me. It's not Mahomes or Allen strong, but it doesn't need to be. The Jets could 10 more drafts before there's another Mahomes or Allen.

My feeling too. It’s Chris Simms BTW and I think he can quite well recognize a strong arm QB as per his past selections.

Yes, I know it's Chris, I didn't even notice I had typed Phil. Thanks. I'll make that correction

He can go forever - there is no conceivable reason to pay Darnold $25.5 million. Now, if you want to talk about giving Darnold a new contract that would cover two years for that amount at least you're in the ballpark and you're protecting your investment to realize value.

The problem with Wilson's arm is that he floats a lot of balls that he should throw in there with more force. And he gets away with it in college. His compact motion doesn't allow him to drive in such throws.

He can throw the ball far and put a lot of air under those deep throws. He shows good touch on those throws. But he has a floater on a lot of things outside the numbers and deeper down the seams when it needs to be threaded and not floated.

I think that's moreso where the criticisms of his arm come from. That's why he reminds me a lot of Bradford.

The flick of the wrist 50-60 yard accurate pass on the run reminds me of Mahomes/Rodgers

Yeah. I'm definitely interested in how these guys do. If they could answer the questions, they could possibly become the best out of this class.

Couple thoughts here. I liked Fields too after watching him (for the first time) towards the end of the college season. About the time we all starting watching Trevor thinking we might get the #1.

But then the SB happened. And the value of TEAM outside the QB position really came to light.

KC with the best FQB in the NFL got steamrolled by a better overall team. Just having 2 o-lineman out sealed their fate.

So ya, having a FQB is great, but you will STILL need at least a solid+ team. It may be easier in the end to win games with an avg+ QB playing on a great team than a FQB playing on a shit team (plus u'd see more than one jersey in the stands!).

So bottom line I'm OK with keeping Sam for 2021 with a new HC, new offense, and the best TEAM JD can possibly build with 100% of our draft cap.

I'm also OK with trading Sam and using #2 (or a bit lower) on a rookie QB, and using the rest of our draft for team building. We'd have less draft cap but more cap space for FAs, so it could balance out.

The option that scares me the most is taking on Watson with his contract (albeit less offensive this season) and having just fraction of our draft capital left to re-build our shit team into something we can be proud of. I don't want a string of 8-8 seasons even if I can boast "But our QB threw for the most yards!!!".

    So many choices!

In an attempt to actually discuss this with an open mind, can you provide some examples of this? Some film and the time stamp where you see him floating passes? I actually want to see what you mean because I haven't seen this.
