Cousins is a good player but I wouldn’t trade 3 1st and a 3rd for him. That’s elite player compensation.

Great find. This picture is really worth a 1000 words. 2 completely different throws, different spot, different direction, different distance, in different conditions, with the only similarity being they were made on the run to the left. The sarcastic caption was (paraphrasing) "I thought this kind of throw never been made". Then a completely different throw of Sam is included to illustrate that it has been. Not to debate more the bigger point the guy was trying to make, but the basic principals of analogy - of including similar throw - are missing here. Just a ridiculous overall take.

Maybe if he included a video Vilma found of Sam's Pro day, but even that was quite a bit different too: Sam stopped, squared and threw stationary, hard to see the distance and direction, and he actually missed it, while Zach threw a 50+ yard dime on the run across the field.

This is something I was thinking actually. In the film I've seen of Fields, I have seen him process quickly and make quick decisions - although not all the time, but I have seem it - so I wondered if this "slow processing" is really just an aspect of the system they're running and the pass pro that he usually has that allows him more time to throw. It's something he's going to have to adjust in the pros though.

It’s a product of a QB that is still developing I feel.

I was just trying to point out that contrary to the meme that Fields is a "slow processor", I think that's due more to the system he plays in and the usually great pass pro he gets than any shortcoming of mental ability on his part.

The funny thing is the throw Wilson made is almost meaningless in the long run. Yeah it was a great throw and all that, but if you're drafting him based on one throw in shorts, you're doing it wrong.

OSU’s system is definitely meant to win college games & not prepare QBs for the league. Fields’s mental acuity plays a part too. I just don’t view it as unrectifiable as advertised. I think the more appropriate language should be “he is a slower processor than...” and “hasn’t thrown as many anticipatory throws as...” as opposed to “slow processor” & “no anticipation”. We did this with Josh Allen’s accuracy. He wasn’t the most accurate of his class but he wasn’t an inaccurate passer if you looked at the tape.

Oh we know, just trying to say that using Darnold's throw to make Wilson's look like an easy throw was an incredible reach by Riddick.

I said that about allen. that his arm was the most impressive of the bunch. it was clear on film the accuracy was overblown. people didn't watch they just looked at completion % which does not equal accuracy. allen needed to work on consistency and mechanics but his arm and accuracy was great. just inconsistent. of course I caught a ton of shit for it

Even saying not unprecedented was a bad claim. The throws were totally different other than that both guys were rolling to the left. Wilson's was literally twice as far as Darnold's.

Either way, this debate is dumb. It's a pro day throw. It doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things.

What are you talking about? I posted that tweet with a tongue in cheek reference about it spurring unnecessary debate.

Saying the initial comparison was ridiculous=making a big deal out of it? Lmao.

You guys are the one that keeps bringing it up. I've only seen Wilson supporters responding to comments by those who either want Fields or Lance or don't think we should take a QB.

I certainly expect that, after the 29th, we put our strong personal feelings aside, and we all rally around the pick in the hope it turns into the stud we have all been waiting and praying for since the nineties
Who turns out to be right or wrong in this forum will be immaterial in the big scheme of things but if JD and the CS don't hit a winner it will be painful to us all, and continue the collective suffering in search of a QB once again.
I don't ever want another "tank for ---- " nightmare season like 2020 again.
Toughest decision of the year coming up on the 29th. Time will tell

No, that's not correct according to Connor Hughes. He said that Mac thought that Mayfield was better. Mayfield didn't have the accuracy issues, TO issues, issues reading Ds and issues with decision making that Sam had.

I listened to another Hughes podcast last night, and he seemed to contradict himself. Mac did assume that the Browns would take Darnold, so maybe he either didn't care as he thought both would become FQBs, or he preferred Darnold, but was fine with Mayfield.

With regards to the bold, did you mean Wilson instead of Fields?
