I guess that's the decision JD will have to make. Is Zack 'better enough' to pass on the three 1st round picks he'd get for trading down and keeping Sam? If your in the camp that thinks the QB is all that matters, you draft Zack. If you think it's more important to have a great team, you trade down.
I think Jeremiah is nuts. At the very least, Fields needs to be ahead of Darnold, and I think a strong case can be made that both Lance and Jones should be ranked ahead of Darnold.
But the Jets wanted Mayfield, period. There was no mention of leadership. They just liked Mayfield better.
Might be 100% wrong but I suspect SF had Wilson and Jones as one and two in their list. They moved up when they could not find a deal with the Jets. If that is the case is sAtlanta picking a QB at four? If the Jets saw equal value for Wilson and Fields and even Lance, they could have traded with Atlanta and still got one of them. Quite frankly based on the trades I just not see the Jets picking anything but Wilson if they stay at two, or trade down, and it doesn’t seem SF was targeting Fields either.
I can't tell if he means Sam in 2018, or Sam now. If he means Sam in 2018, then I think ranking him at 3 is fair. At the moment, it is hard to rank Sam ahead any of the Top 5 guys, if we are being realistic. My list for the Jets going into 2021 would be: 1. Lawrence 2. Wilson 3. Fields 4. Keep Darnold 5. Lance 6. Jones
This is not outside of realm of possibility. Kinda like Baker leapfrogging Sam, Rosen, and Allen, and going #1 overall. There is a chance Mac can leapfrog Lance and even Fields.
I don't know - I am worried Mac will be a good player in NFL and goes to Patriots. So, this scenario, where Lawrence, Wilson, Mac, Fields go top 4 in that order outside the other teams in the division works for me.
