For just about all of, Castro has been in control of Cuba for our entire lifetime.
Obviously it does not mean that much as Raul is the man in control now.

But one of the few people in history where people are actually celebrating a death.

Yeah but things are getting better with cuba, so theres always that. Americans are so afraid of communism for some reason.

This quote explains everything about your previous posts.
Red blooded Americans detest communism because it is the antithesis of everything we stand for.
Fidel is a monster and he is answering for his crimes as we speak.

I know you don't mind communism.
Too bad for you, you'll never see your dystopian, communist society realized in this country.
    Ever.

Short style, the U.S. supported Batista because the U.S. owned a crap ton of sugar fields as well as a ton of other interests there. Batista looked the other way over abuses. Batista spent time in the U.S., was U.S. friendly, kept electing himself Grand Poobah in one form or another along with a bunch puppets, and was an awful dictator. Castro was sick of the sharp division between rich and poor, hated the U.S. for what he felt was rape of the country, and overthrew Batista, who then made off with a gazillion dollars. Revolution! Yay! A new leader! Deliverance! Nope. More of the same times ten. I fully understand why Cuba saw it as a welcome thing in the moment, but the love affair lasted about 30 seconds.

JFK continued Eisenhower's training of Cuban exiles to then overthrow Castro in turn because Castro fully aligned himself with Russia from the word go. It failed miserably, and almost started a nuclear war. Castro promised to restore the constitution of Cuba, but before long he subjugated his own people in a far worse fashion than Batista and became an even worse dictator than Batista ever was. I'm not excusing the U.S. for their role in any of it, but Castro was an absolute monster, pure and simple. Batista was a pig, but Castro was a worse pig. Well, I got a lot more to say on the subject and also on a personal level, but I'll wrap up for now and say I ain't shedding a tear that that turd is finally stiff as a board. I'm glad Cuban-Americans are glad over it. They deserve to be.

The Cuban govt should try to use the china model for economic development. Hanging on to 1959 Cuba is like trying to hold on to 1948 China. That era is long gone now.

The embargo only harmed the Cuban people and made Castro a hero. This is almost 2017 and its past time for a new approach. Opportunity is knocking. Will Trump listen....
