I am so glad that we let Brett Favre ruin our franchise for not only this season, which I predicted, but for years to come. Thanks, Brett, you egomaniac drama queen. I was so happy Chad, a man with real class and dignity, knock your silly ass out once and for all. Thank you, Brett, also for making me root for the Miami Dolphins all season. I was not behind the Jets once this season, and I am, like my name states, a Mud Bowl Survivor(fan since 1982).
Well, I'm sure everyone is so glad for you, that you can change your loyalty like skidmarked underwear. "OUR franchise"? "I was not behind the Jets once this season"? Who won this week? That's who I like! I've been a homegrown Packer fan since Lombardi's early-'60s Title Team, when, as a kid, I used a magic marker to put Jim Taylor's #31 on an old sweatshirt, and used plastic model paints to a do a crummy but recognizable paint job on a cheap helmet to play football in the city park with my buds. I've cheered the Pack when they were good, and cursed them when they sucked, but I've been there, in their corner, watching them every week. When they lose, I, like the majority of people in Wisconsin, tend to take it a bit personally, and feel pretty darn cruddy about it for a while. But when they get to a Championship, and yes, even a Super Bowl, and win... there's nothing like it, a thrill you'll never experience, and never understand. You can't, because your commitment and emotional involvement is just way too shallow. Likewise, the "Big City" attitude: "We paid $12M for (whatever) and we expect..." You have no idea what the Packers mean to little ol' Green Bay. Lambeau is packed to the sky for every game, has been for decades, and will be for more decades. Putting your name in for Packer season tickets today MIGHT get you tickets a hundred years from now, though it's doubtful. The team is owned by the people around Green Bay, who instantly buy shares when they're offered, knowing full well that they'll never get paid a dividend; they're just happy to pay $100 a pop for an official piece of paper that quickly gets framed and put on their wall saying that they're part owner. The fact that there will be no playoff games this year is a VERY BIG DEAL to the economy there. The last time I went to a home game, I went with some guys in a 40-foot pop-out motorhome to tailgate. We were parked next to some guys who had made their pilgrimage from West Virginia for this game in December. It was about 8ยบ while the sun was still shining, waiting for a Monday night game against the Vikings. I asked them why they chose a game so late in the year, and so cold for their big trip. They said "Yeah! Ain't it GREAT? When God created Pro Football, the Angels asked Him were it was going to be. He pulled out a map, and pointed His finger at Green Bay, Wisconsin." You would never, ever hear someone from Green Bay say "I like the Vikings this year." Around here, the Packers are family. You don't pick against your family. You can curse your mother, father, brother, or sister when you're having an argument, and you can even change your religion, but you never change your very stripes and desert your family. They are what you are. A big part of what makes Brett Favre so special is the fact that he does wear his emotions on his shirtsleeve, and enjoys the game like he's still a kid. You're going to have to spend a lot more than $12M to get an unemotional robot quarterback that does everything perfectly and acts like he doesn't care. If you ever do, you will be one of the very, very few people that appreciate him. Brett Favre "made you root for the Miami Dolphins all season?" Get bent. If Favre had gotten the Jets to the Super Bowl, nobody would have heard you cheering the frikkin' Dolphins. You'd have been cheering the Jets, along with their REAL fans, trying to pretend that you were one of them.
It's not your franchise if you don't root for them, front runner. Go buy a faggy teal and orange jersey and fuck off.
There is one thing you forgot to mention. There are a few Packer fans here who have jumped ship from the Packers because of their loyalty to Brett Favre and the shabby way that (they think) he was treated and their hatred for TT. And that is fine and dandy. It's a free country. So if there are some Jet fans who jump ship it's not too different from the Packer fans that have jumped ship.
