Report: Favre says he won't go to camp ? for now

Report: Favre says he won't go to camp ? for now

By CHRIS JENKINS, AP Sports Writer

MILWAUKEE - Brett Favre apparently won't be among the Packers showing up for the opening of Green Bay's training camp Sunday morning.

"I agreed to do that," Favre told the site. "I don't want to be a distraction to the Packers, and I hope in the next few days we can come to an agreement that would allow me to continue playing football."

That agreement, presumably, would be a trade. The New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have emerged as two potential trade partners for the Packers, and Favre told si.com that he would consider a trade to any team.

haha, that was the first thing I noticed too

basically, Thompson asked Favre for an extension on working a trade out. I would expect Favre to be traded somewhere within 3 days.

I think there is still probably a 35-40% chance he could get traded here. It would be better for the Packers than Tampa Bay. The only thing that would stop it is a new mystery team jumping into the middle of it. One thing for sure is it would scare the hell out of the rest of the AFC east. (and that includes NE)

I cannot wait to buy the jersey in your avatar. I was tempted to do it on Friday, but did not want to jinx the possibility.

you'd need to get it bootleg, because the NFL shop won't allow you to customize a jets favre jersey until he actually gets on the team.

if/when it happens, that jersey will be the highest selling in the NFL. The jets will be rolling in dough.

I never ruled anything out, that's why I said, I'd take him if the cards fell our way, but that's not very likely. We know the Packers are gonna want more than a late round pick. And I doubt Favre will take a pay cut to play for us.

And as for his salary, what the heck are you talking about?!??! Who made any mention of a signing bonus. Favre's base salary for the next three yeas are 12, 13, then 14 million....

The Jets don't need Favre. After the money they've spent this year, they need to find out fast if Pennington or the the Kid can run the show, because they need to win quick. While I'm not comparing either to Tom Brady, remember that the Pats didn't put many games in his hands the first SB trip. They kept the score down and ran the ball down teams throats in the 4th Quarter with Antowain Smith. I think as constituted, the Jets could do alot of that and Jones is tough runner and with a decent line in front of him and a top flight FB (Richarson) he could have a really big year IMO.

If the O-Line plays as strong as it seems like it should, play the one who'll be the most mistake-free and run the system. Favre isn't smart enough to learn a whole new offense in one year, and as soon as things don't go right he'd be heaving stupid passes down field (like he has for the last 4 years or so). I think the Pats would love to see Favre on the Jets. They'd give him the Drew Bledsoe treatment.

I think the Jets will compete as constituted if the D can play up to the talent on it. That is really what it comes down to. I certainly think they could win 10 and get in the playoffs......
