I only remember Brad Smith and Justin McCraphands having trouble with the way he threw the ball. Hopefully Brad Smith will be the #4 receiver this season and obviously JM is gone.

Am I forgetting other receivers having trouble?

I want long term answers, not short term question marks.

You can bet Parcells will be be in the running, it is his usual MO with Vinny and Bledsoe

at this point..i just want this team to win games and a SuperBowl title.

I'm all for "building for the future and establishing a foundation for this franchise"...but seriously, do you really give a fidders' fuck how this team gets to the Superbowl or who guides them?

Favre makes us instant contenders.....granted, he needs time to learn a new system....but i don't think the learning curve would be that much of a factor. The guy adlibs almost every snap he takes anyways. Plus, he's durable...a characteristic that is SEVERELY lacking on this team regarding QB's for quite some time now.

There is no way Favre comes out of retirement to join a team that is re-building with no WR's....

favre does nothing for a team like the dullphins. they are in need of too much to compete for anything except a high draft pick.

Amazing how so many people let sentiment get in the way of success. Forward is forward whichever way you look at it

Thanks for that, Socrates. Informal logic rules! I love when I run across stuff that just works. Kernels of wisdom on a Jets message board, will wonders never cease.

It truly is amazing. A lot of Yankees fans felt the same way when the team first signed Roger Clemens. The majority of them ended up adoring the guy. The quintessential and most loathed, anti-Yankees player became one of the teams heroes right up until his recent disgrace.

If GB give him the outright release he has requested, he'll be going to the Panthers. I doubt the GB FO will allow this to happen, however. When Favre does finally return, it will be with either Baltimore, Oakland, KC, Houston or the Jets. On paper, at least, the Jets are the team with the most winning potential of all of them and since the choice will be Favre's, I feel there is a good chance he will remain in green, albeit a different shade.

If Favre does not accept the GB FO's terms which dictate a limited number of landing spots, someone's hand will be forced and the remaining choices will be as follows:

    1. GB puts him on the active roster and is forced to clear cap space by trading him to whatever team they feel like which Favre would either have to accept or go back into retirement, or

    2. GB puts him on the active roster and is forced to clear cap space by trading Rodgers to an AFC team (I'd be happy as hell to have him too.)

Because of the history between the team, Favre and the Green Bay fans, I imagine some sort of compromise will be worked out but that really depends greatly on whether Favre would even be amenable to playing for one of the above mentioned AFC teams or if he's got his heart set on Carolina.

Unfortuntately it appears that may be the only way this team wins a super bowl. In the era of free agency if it isn't a QB it's likely somebody elses legend anyway that's helping you win a SB.

    You misunderstood me.

It's not that people here can't wait for him to retire. Hell if we could we would never have him leave. However we know it has been coming and it's just making everyone so anxious and nervous. We just wanna see if we're still going to be ok...

I agree there is lots of good points made and I read them before posting. I've waited a lifetime for a return to the SB and I want it to be with a 'Jets' QB not a mercenary who is only returning for himself. If we won the SB with Favre (highly unlikely) it would all be about 'Bret Favre'. I'm a Jets fan, tough story goes with us, we will have our day soon and I hope it's with Clemens or Chad, maybe Ainge. Your comments about Chad do you no credit!

I've actually read all these posts, but I still don't understand what would make any one think that either Farve or the Jets would want this to happen.

Farve is a country boy. He hates big cities. he wants to come back for one more year to have a chance at another title. The Jets are off a 4-12 season, and are in the biggest city in the world.

The Jets have a 2nd round draft pick, that they were very high on, who just hasn't had a chance yet. Farve, unlike Pennington, hasn't been very helpful to Rogers. He sure won't be any friendlier to Clemens. That would stunt Clemens growth.

Farve is here for tops one season. He has changed his mind about 5 times in the last year. What would stop him from coming to NY, being here 2 weeks, and saying "this sucks" I'm going home.

If he is going to screw the Packers to get what he wants, he will screw the Jets in a heart beat..

I just can't see this happening

So you think Chad should be mentioned in the same class as Favre - but I'm the one discredited here. OK man. You're in dream land, seriously.

I also think it's border line retarded to not want to win a superbowl with a QB other than one we drafted. Why the hell does that matter? It's the free agency era - every team in the NFL is trying to assemble the best team possible through the draft AND free agency. If you get your QB through FA, it doesn't make your superbowl less valuable. Yes, a lot of the story would be about Favre, but he would be a Jet and the Jets would be champions.

I think its even funnier that you managed to leave out some of the other meaningful statistics that define Favre as a QB:

    1. 5,377 (Most passes completed in NFL History)
    2. 61,655 (Most passing yardage of any QB in NFL History)
    3. 63 ( Most games with over 300 yds passing)
    4. 442 ( The most TDs thrown by any QB in NFL History)
    5. 19 (2nd most games with at least 4 TD passes)
    6. 8,758 Most career pass attempts in NFL History
    7. 38 "come-from-behind" 4th quarter wins & 2 more overtime victories, 2nd only to John Elway's 47 4th quarter or OT "come-back wins", in NFL history.
    8. 160 (The Most regular season wins by any QB in NFL History)

Hope this helps. The guy is an all-time great QB who still has plenty left in the tank and you prefer either Penny or Clemens. That's not funny.

Who cares about all those meaningless stats.
89.32 Chad Pennington (7th all time passer rating)
