Another fact that people are ignoring. It's not like Chad's numbers are phenominal this season guys. His numbers now is pretty much the same numbers he was putting up with the jets. The problem? It wasn't winning football games. Favre may not always win pretty, but he is the type of guy that can not only win in a dominate fashion, he can win when he himself is playing ugly. 1 TD pass a game with hardly any ints wasn't working for the jets. Hence, they got favre. I just don't see how anyone would want chad back. One TD pass a game this year and the jets may only have 1 win to this point.
Two things... he hasn't had to throw TDs because he has a couple of solid backs behind him, and he has not discernible talent at WR or TE. But he's doing very well with what he's been given.
The Jets are 4-3 - the more they mire in the middle-ground NFL group - the less it matters what quaterback wins in the ratings war. What this season will wound up determing is - that HOF quarterbacks nearing the end of their careers with another team amounts to just a stop-gap maneuver. Jets as a team, and an organization lose big time, in this respect.
The jets run the ball better then dolphins, or have you not bothered to look at the numbers. Just because they have more rushing TD's (3 more then us) does not mean they run the ball BETTER then us. What it does mean, is they run the ball in the situations they should (like third and short. At least come out in a running FORMATION if you want to throw it). The jets have more rushing yards, slightly more rushing attempts, and more yards per carry, then the dolphins. Yes Ronnie Brown is pretty good. He sure as hell sucked last season. Ricky Williams looks ok. TJ looks alright as well, and Leon looks like a stud. So, it's not like their backs are vastly superior. We've been the better running team, we just refuse to run, and when we do run, we refuse to use the running attack to set up the passing game (why run for 200 yards if you aren't planning to PA pass ever)(why PA pass if you are not running. Seriously, FUNDAMENTALS OF PLAY CALLING)
Well, explain to me then how the Jets managed to win with Chad, then???!!! Aren't we forgetting that Chad is doing it with less talent? Miami DID have only 1 win all of last season, correct? What is it with Jets fans these days that they are so blind not to see the real problem here? Another medicore season with a possibility of their QB calling quits ---- leaving them with no proven QB to take over......while Miami, on the other habnd has a decent one with some good capable years ahead.
I've made a few points before the season about 'Awtta be Shot' enheimer' and his very questionable play calling. A Zebra can't change it's stripes......
The leading receivers for the Phins are: Greg Camarillo Ted Ginn Jr. David Martin Anthony Fasano Patrick Cobbs Compare that to: Coles Cotchery Stuckey Washington
TommyGreen stated: Touchdowns win games, and Favre has more than Pennington. Case closed. That is not a fact at all. Scoring more points than your opponent wins games. The top 5 scoring teams per game in the NFL this season are Arizona, Chicago, San Diego, Green Bay, and Philadelphia with a combined record of 19 wins and 17 losses. The best record of the bunch is 4-3: The same record the 8th best scoring team, the JETS, have. The undefeated Titans are currently 11th. To score more points than your opponent not only requires you scoring points but stopping the opponent from doing so too. Turning the ball over as much as Farve has isn't helping the defense.
Both quarterbacks have a similar completion percentage and yards passing. Both are plus four in TD's-INT's (Chad 7-3, Favre 15-11). The mere fact that they're comparable statistically when Miami has a worst team on paper is particularly damning to Favre. The media wants to make a big deal of him acclimating, how about Pennington going to a new team? He hasn't had to acclimate? At least two of those INT's have resulted directly in TD's.
I disagree, the Fins are facing defenses choosing to stop the run at the expense of the pass and the Jets are facing defenses choosing to stop the pass at the expense of the run. That was part of my original point. Whatever the yardage numbers are, TJ runs against defenses designed to stop the pass and Penny throws against defenses designed to stop the run. There is a reason why after the Arizona game the Jets running game improved and the deep throws for touchdowns went down.
Just from a statistical point of view the plus four means nothing. The ratio is much more important since interceptions can frequently turn into scores for the other team or lost scores for your team. Chad's thrown 2.3 TD per int, while Favre has thrown 1.36. Huge difference.
Seriously? Ronnie Brown sucked last year? Check your stats. Before he hurt his knee he was leading the NFL in rushing. He is far superior to Thomas Jones. The reason Chad is playing well is simple. The Dolphins have an identity as a running team, and teams prepare for it, so Chad gets one-on-one matchups he can exploit. Chad has been remarkable, and if he was here, I'd say we'd be 4-3 or even 5-2. The Jets coaching staff has to stop trying to cater to Favre and his abilities and be the run first team they planned on being before the season began. Remember Alan Faneca and Damien Woody? They're both better run blockers than pass blockers, which was why we signed them. The Jets got Favre and all of a sudden threw everything out the window to appease him. I am tired of it. Make him fit what we want to do, not vise versa. I feel like i am watching Vinny Testaverde all over again with Favre.
Pennington was a better fit for this team than Favre...he was another year removed from his surgery, he knows this complicated offense better than Favre will in a hundred years, he would've had the benefit of a better offensive line (marginally) and a better defense. Last year, he had nothing to work with...the team was shit. You can all take issue with it, but let's ask the Dolphin fans what they think: STRAIGHT UP TRADE: WE'LL SEND YOU FAVRE, AND YOU SEND US PENNINGTON. Think the Fish would go for this? Neither do I. Whoda thunk it...I did and so did many other "loyal" Jet fans on this site who did not like seeing our team captain and leader thrown on the junk heap.
