If you're on a budget and need to get in shape and not concerned with "creature comforts", a bootcamp retreat on Rikers Island got me back in shape, and I learned some MMA techniques. It didnt cost that much, food and service kinda sucked though...
Anything that comes with mosquitos the size of bumblebees included falls off of my list. I'd have added Orrs and Bailey Islands and the Harpswell Peninsula in Maine to my list but the deer flies start swarming in June and things get miserable.
Pidgeon Forge/Gatlinburg/Sevierville is an incredible area. https://www.localgoatpf.com/ The Local Goat may be the best Restaurant I have eaten at in a tourist destination locale. Asheville is another great area, The Biltmore is well worth a visit if you have never been, nothing like it in the U.S. They do a great job keeping up the legacy. Pretty much anywhere along the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smokies is awesome.
Yep, rainforests are humid; if they weren't they wouldn't be rainforests. No yacht for me but Puerto Rico has some great places - Culebra, Vieques and even Rincon which is easier to get to. It seems like a lot of people go places that don't suit them; not sure I understand why.
Not my favorite vacation spot, but I know there were a lot of Aussies and also a lot of Nigerian heroin dealers that vacationed in the Itaewon district of Seoul, the place where all those people got trampled on Halloween. When the news reports started naming all of the different countries of origin, I started trying to remember which bars had girls from those countries. That video looked like dead center of Hooker Hill.
I have never personally tried the burgers, but some family members have and raved about them. Last 2 times there I had Ribs, just amazingly fall off the bone, and the best Shrimp and Grits. The deep fried deviled eggs are a must for us.
I feel that everyone should go to Yellowstone and Bryce Canyon at least once in their lives - both are absolutely unique and amazing. If you're in the neighborhood of Bryce, there are lots of other amazing sights around - Grand Canyon, Zion, and a little farther away, Monument Valley, Two of my favorite places in the Med are Santorini and Malta - both gorgeous in very different ways. A Venice - Tuscany - Florence - Rome trip, taking the high-speed train in between, is unforgettable. I agree with others about Aruba, although no one has mentioned how the northern side of the island is extremely rugged and unusual (from the constant 20 mph winds over hundreds of miles of open water), and great for jeep/ATV adventuring. A little closer to home, my wife and I just visited Nashville and Memphis, and I highly recommend that - lots of good and varied food, and loads of music-related places to see and hear. We actually continued down the Mississippi Delta to New Orleans, which is also of course great for food and music.
The closest I've ever come to the Appalachian feel of NC outside of Appalachia would be the Pacific Northwest. Lots of trails and cabins there. You may like it.
I liked both Ocean Cities. Maryland and New Jersey. Myrtle Beach is pretty nice too. Looking at San Marcos Is, FL next year. Combo vacation/fishin trip.
Was lucky to secure 5 days in late Oct in our favorite cabin outside Asheville nc, at the prime of the fall colors. Traveling far and wide is out of the equation for us, with 2 spoiled dogs that we won’t board. So they go with us, and we go hiking/exploring etc. bucket list is England/Scotland/Ireland.
Yeah, it’s such a great area. I still haven’t been to the biltmore, but hear it’s a great visit. The whole area, the small mountain towns that surround it…. I love it. I am thinking of buying a piece of property in brevard . Maybe for future retirement build. No way I am staying in the Myrtle beach area after what they have done here the last 3 years with the development.
