I also was perplexed by the pick when it happened - I hadn't heard anything about Keller and we were trading up to grab him. When it was mentioned that he was gonna fill more of a pass-catching role, I was surprised they didn't just draft a WR (at that point, no WR had been drafted yet). But, from all indications so far, it was a great pick. I have so much confidence in Tannenbaum, I shouldn't have questioned it in the first place.
The guy I really wanted with that pick was James Hardy. 6'7". complete monster. but i'll definitely take this kid. if he's anything like dallas clark i'd be wicked happy
Keller is having the better pre-season, so hopefully he's the better guy. At the very least, he has a better QB throwing to him.
loved the keller pick from the beginning. i was hoping WR at the time but when I saw it was Keller I was extatic. the guy is a straight up great player. he will be a contributor as long as hes on the field. the guy dominated at purdue. and i think schotty jr will know how to use him.
I'm guilty of the same feelings. It was'nt so much that i didn't like Keller as a player(didn't know anything about him), as much as i didn't like giving up an extra pick. I think the WR's in this draft were unspectacular. None of them stood heads above the rest. I think our FO looked at Keller as being 2 players, for the price of 1. A guy that could line up at TE, and also be a WR. Looks like a great move, thus far. Hope it continues.
Him and Favre seem to have a good rapport going. And like someone mentioned, a good tight end, particularly one that can stretch the field a bit is going to be huge with Favre and the offense.
Another key to remember is that when Schotty came in here, he had wanted to implement a two-TE program. Now, with Keller, Baker, and Franks, he can do just that.
we'll be hitting the middle of the field way more also i can see them running two TE's on one side causing alot of confusion in coverage. keller is a great player anywhere but i think this system is going to be great for him.
