My "hand wringing" is centered completely on the lousy blocking - it's not just the OL but the RBs and TEs - and the bad coaching that allowed this to happen. Yes, improvement can be made - and MUST be, and QUICKLY! - but as you yourself noted, Zach showed what a great QB he can be for us, but that will be destroyed before it comes to pass if Saleh & Co don't fix the blocking (pass pro and run).

The Patriot game actually scares me a little bit If I'm honest. To this day, I still think the "seeing ghost" game was truly the game that fucked Darnold up mentally. He never recovered here after BB got In his head.

I think Wilson has a better mental makeup, but, It's BB. I think concern Is valid. Hopefully It goes well for us though.

Maybe It's premature of me to be concerned In this way, I don't think so though. Especially after seeing that line get dismantled last week. It's scary to me.

I honestly don't care if we lose every game this season as long as we're at least somewhat competitive and show improvement from week to week. The only thing I really care about and that is an absolute must, is that we protect Zach, and keep him upright and healthy. He cannot develop if he's running for his life each week and taking a lot of sacks. That could ruin him. He has already shown that he is tough, has resilience and has the goods to lead us to the VLT. Now Saleh and LaFleur have to pull their heads out of their asses, put aside their platitudes and stupid requirements like WRs having to know all three positions at a high level and put their best players on the field each week and give them a chance to succeed. If they screw around and get Zach hurt, I'll want their heads on a pike (literally!) outside Jets' HQ.

Our roster is upgraded at QB and WR. Not sure where else its upgraded. With all the resources we had this offseason that is unacceptable.

Yes we have a lot of young players starting. The problem is half of them are 4th through 6th round draft picks - not 1st through 3rd round draft picks. On top of that, we've had 8 picks in the top three rounds over the last two drafts and so far Zach is the only stand out, and that took a 2nd overall pick. I get it still too early to for final judgment but so far this isn't doing a very good job building through the draft.

Patience, I know. It should be the Jets motto. The problem is Adam Gase took our patience out to the parking lot and set it on fire. Now were hopping around the parking lot on fire while being told to be patient.

Right there with you. I had the same scared feeling all during the Panthers game once I saw how badly we were blocking. It's only a matter of time before something really bad happens if we keep this up.

Yes, I too am scared. If the Panthers did this to our OL and blocking, what will the Patriots and BB do to it? I think Zach has shown the world how good he is and can be, there is no need to risk him getting hurt. Ideally, were I the HC, I would sit him this wee, but for sure, I would pull him if I see the blocking blown up like I expect it will.

The reality is that a team - even one as bad as the 2-14 Jets - don't get awarded all picks in the first 3 rounds. And Picks in rounds 4 onward have diminishing odds of success. That's reality. You can be the greatest GM in the world and have a lot of misses in the face of that reality. Then add in the change in CS and coaching philosophy, in some (many?) cases making players who might've been a good fit before, now not be so good. And then consider that NFL free agency isn't anything like MLB or the NBA - most players who wind up as FAs have seen their best years, or they're looking to be paid way beyond their actual value.

That all said, Douglas does bear responsibility here. He's had 2 years of FA and drafts, as well as the ability to make trades. IMO he's done a pretty good job overall, but he's obviously made some mistakes and we're seeing that. He needs to do better. Unfortunately I think the improvement he needs to make will come only through experience, and we're going to have to live with that.

As a fan for almost 60 years, I'm frustrated, and don't have a lot of patience, but I don't think another GM put into the same circumstances would've done better. And if Zach Wilson is the only thing Douglas achieves, he's earned his paycheck IMO.

True, but I was referring to the Steelers being a better run franchise than the Jets and Lions.

Tannehill was sacked 6 times, just like Wilson and he had a worse passer rating. Burrow was sacked 5 times. Relax FFS.

You guys are like a dog that's been beat so many times that when you go to pet it it ducks and runs away in fear. I'm not sure how some of you can even enjoy rooting for Jets.

Here's a positive. Ever since he was drafted we heard how fragile Wilson is. Seemed like he held up ok to me!

If we are, it's because we've seen this movie too many times already, and we know how it ends. Yes, Zach is tough and held up well. That's one game. If he takes that kind of beating and abuse over a full season, he could get seriously injured, even possibly a career-ending or career-altering injury, lose confidence and that relaxed ease that makes him so special.

Just because you think nothing will happen, doesn't mean that it won't. We want to ensure that it won't. There is zero excuse for how the OL, RBs, and TEs played on Sunday. That is squarely on the CS, and they'd better hold themselves and the players accountable.

Couldn't agree more.... Wilson will never make year end - maybe mid-season - if this OL continues in this vane.

It's football guys. You can have the best OL in the league and your QB could still be lost for the season. What kind of hit did Vinny Testaverde take when we lost him in game 1? Or more recently, Carl Lawson?

    You guys need Xanax.

Yes, they can. But that would be more of the freak accident variety that isn't preventable. What we're upset about is his getting hurt from the sloppy play due to poor coaching, poor scheme design, poor play calling, and poor execution. That is TOTALLY preventable, and inexcusable.

Maybe we do. Do you know a source? LOL It's funny that your post posted, but when I tried to post my response, it would post because it said that drug name was banned.

It's one game into the season with a boatload of new players, many of them rookies. And yet we have a plethora of Internet warriors who can identify exactly what the coaching staff did wrong and actually think they can do a better job. It's laughable. If anyone one of these armchair coaches/GM's went to a league meeting and laid out their expert tape analysis/breakdowns they'd be laughed out of the building. The fact that they think they know better and could do better is the best comic relief there is. I get it. This is an internet message forum but FFS you have to realize that the professionals have forgotten more football than these guys know. I'd bet my life savings on that. The thought that someone here would make a better coach, GM or assistant coach than anyone currently on the current Jets payroll is fucking laughable. If they could they'd have a job in the NFL.

You really don't think anyone here could do a better job than Maccagnan or Gase?
