If Faneca or Ellis is cut, no matter who we get in the draft, it will ruin the whole offseason. There's absolutely no need to cut these two guys in a year where we're clearly going for it all. Why ruin the chemistry that the O-Line has developed the past 2 years that've turned it into the best in the NFL? And why cut one of the leaders of the defense, who had a very productive year last season, with the very poor depth we have at DE? I just can't see it. The ONLY possible justification would be to clear up more money to resign ALL of the core younger guys, but even in that case you can just resign them now in the uncapped year, then cut the guys to get back to the cap level if necessary next offseason.
There's pretty much no chance anyone would give up a 4th for BT. And it would take more than just a 4th to move up 8 picks in the first round according to the PVT.
If Ellis goes, I'm guessing it will be part of a package to move up with a 3-4 team that does not have an immediate need for a pass rusher. Green Bay, Washington, and Denver seem to be the most likely, then again I have no idea what their DLines look like aside from the fact that Washington just traded for Carriker and Haynesworth hates it there. ...Revis I hope we're not trying to add Haynesworth at the price of Ellis.
I would be PISSED if we cut ellis. The guy is the ultimate jet and lord knows we are weak at d end. Would make zero sense.
Shit like this makes me wonder how difficult it can be to be a sports writer. "Well I have no leads on anything right now so I'm just going to start a rumor that Ellis, Thomas and Faneca will be cut." Fuck you Lombardi, and if you're right about this, you can still fuck yourself for reporting it and pissing us all off. /rant over.
Over 20 years as an NFL executive and the jackass writes for some jackoff blog...Matt Millen anyone? Jackass. Honestly, the only move that can even be discussed with a straight face is BT. And even then, we still need he and Pace to play the majority of snaps as JT is only going to be situational. I am not comfortable with a rookie or VG being the other starter, so this whole article sux.
That makes me feel a heck of a lot better. Its obviously not set in stone because Rex did say we had our starting QB on the roster pre-draft last year, but it really makes 0 sense to let either ellis or faneca go. We are making a run for the superbowl right now, allowing starters who are quality vets in this league go at this stage in the game is borderline retarded. I still think unless we get a 4 for Bryan Thomas he will also be more value to us than the draft pick would be. I trust in rex on this one.
I'm with everyone here. Touching that O-line is a BIG mistake, and Ellis is a respectable and solid Veteran.
