hopefully it's just to see if anybody will throw any deals our way, and see what we can work with. If nobody bites I'd be against cutting them. that'd be nuts especially for cap room(for future years)? then take a cap to gholstons head.
Alan Faneca will make 7.5 million bucks this season. If he doesn't restructure or get shipped away during the draft, I can definitely see him getting cut. He makes the Pro Bowl every year because of name recognition. He wasn't even close to being an elite guard last season.
It's an uncapped year, there's no reason to cut Faneca...the players love him and even tho he's not elite he's still a good guard. I guess if we get Iupati it would make sense
He's good in run blocking... in pass blocking he is in the worst 5 of the league IMO. It's uncapped... but if it's YOUR money you'd care.
They might do a Kendall on Fanny. But with the uncapped year, and us supposedly making a SB run, can't see this.
The only reason they'd cut Ellis is if they had information that he was headed for another drug-related suspension. Aside from that he's one of their rocks on a thin d-line at the moment. I do think they could go with Devito full time at one end but then who is the other? Faneca could go just to get him off the cap in the uncapped year. They'd have to draft a guard to replace him though. Thomas is one of those guys who is going to be on the bubble for the rest of his career. He's 30 and he's not a star, those guys go pretty quickly when the turk starts making his rounds in camp.
I know guards are easier to replace than tackles but this team has zero depth on OL. Who starts at LG?
Considering this is our year to make the big run, I can't see the FO screwing around with a team that was 30 min away from the superbowl by cutting veterans for no reason.
WTF? I'm not buying it. If it does go down, this offseason just went from historically great to historically retarded.
Rotoworld is reporting these guys are on the trade block. If we could get a few 4th or 5th rounders all the more power to us. Although id feel bad if Ellis doesn't get his ring
Rotoworld is nothing but a parrot. Look at the Rotoworld blurb and I guarantee you it directly references Lombardi's article.
I don't buy it. Waving 3 starters after the draft? What's the point? I can see us trading Thomas in order to get a draft pick or move up but Ellis is the most talented end we have on the roster.
We haven't won s*** yet. But I agree, letting Ellis go would be wrong. I'm all for moving onward and upward, this is a business, yada yada, etc. But sometimes you need to show some class and, at least, some sense. Letting Ellis go is dangerous as hell considering we have NO ONE yet to replace him. Plus, some players have earned a little better treatment than others, IMO. Thomas? Fine, three years were great but he certainly wasn't a C. Martin. Leon? I love him, but not a long enough tenure. Ellis? 10 solid seasons of play, no bitching, no off the field BS, just shows up and gives you what you expect from him. And then to just drop him just as we're gearing up? Have a f***in' heart. I really hope this is all BS.
The story does not make any sense. You don't say you're going to cut players that are on the trade block because then teams will just wait until they are released.
