I 100% agree with what you said. It's definitely more logical to be a Yankees/Jets fan but I can understand that this is a free world and everyone has a right to their own sports allegiance. I myself am also a Yankees and Jets fan. Not really into hockey or basketball
Jets and Mets are affiliated with each other because they'd played in Shea together. It makes sense, usually if you go and see one sport in one place you're bound to see the other sport played in the same place and for many people growing up that's how they became Mets and Jets fans. Same for Giants and Yankees since they played in the same place for awhile at the Polo Grounds.
The Patriots/Jets thing is only about a decade old. There was no rivalry before then. Or if you want to get technical, the real rivalry started in 07 because of Spygate. The fact that Jets fans felt dissed but not hatred about the Belichick situation until after the Jets were able to beat them (fuck you Herm Edwards) should not be forgotten.
The Yankees and Giants actually never shared the Polo Grounds, since the Yankees played there from 1913-1922, while the Giants played there from 1925-1955. They did share Yankee Stadium from 1956-1973, however. To your point, however, the Mets and Jets fanbases were historically Queens and Long Island, while the Yankees and Giants fanbases were more Manhattan/Bronx/Westchester/New Jersey, although there are of course many exceptions.
Jets/Yankees; I think it will be 50/50, honestly, though Jets/Mets are usually considered together because of their general suckitude as well as the fact that they rhyme.
Im a Jets Yankees...surprised Jets/yanks and Jets/Mets is almost split even, Thought there were way more Jets Met fans.

I love when Giant fans act like they are the Yankees of football w/ their incredible 3 to 1 edge in Sbs over us. The Giants in pre-SB times were known for LOSING championship games, they were the Bills of the old NFL.
Jets Mets Rangers I would say that the allegiance to the Mets & Rangers is very strong and will never die, but my strongest bond has always been to the Jets
