Agreed. Kalil was retired already, was on the couch until August, and hasn't been to Pro Bowl in years, though he was a bit younger. The fact Brown is turning 37 is definitely a concern, but he did have a Pro Bowl season last year. Unless the drop off is massive, he should still be able to serve as a decent back-up even with some drop off. This signing would be much better than Reiff who sucked last year to begin with and is also old. Probably this is as good a back-up signing as the Jets can make. Morgan Moses was an extremely fortunate signing last year, as younger starting caliber players are normally not available at this position. Having an older guy though, who was a Pro Bowler last year, plus a rookie Mitchell, who needs some time, is a decent back-up depth.
There was no chance he would have stayed as a sub after the season he just had. Duane is the best realistic option for a veteran back-up, hopefully JD can make it happen.
Mitchell player exclusively in the right and did well but against B level competition. The word is he needs to put on weight and gain some experience. IMO Max is the future on the right side but hopefully won’t see the field this year at all.
This is why the NFL should allow players over 35 use any chemical enhancements they want. Some of these cats would have a tank full and overflowing at 50 yrs old!
The guy is unemployed; he's looking for a job, he's going to believe in anyone who will give him a paycheck. That's more than enough to give him interest.
His paycheck just got a lot higher thanks to Becton. And JD needs to do it now. Who else is available at this time who can actually protect Zach? JD needs to get to work fast or we are royally screwed.
Btw, I am pretty sure the reason why Duane was a FA is because he wants a big pay check. We are talking 10 mil or so. Reiff just signed for something similar, and though Brown is older, he is better. Teams, understandably are hesitant to pay this much to old man and they turned to others. I don't think we are talking about 1 mil, like with Alexander, who plays a non premium position. This may be Duane's last chance to get paid big $, as he is coming off Pro Bowl year at a premium position. But he is old, so it is not so easy to score the big pay check, hence it takes time, and maybe even someone being a bit desperate, like the Jets are now. I think his price came down a bit, hence JD brought him for a visit. Now, the price may have gone back up, but still, we need to meet somewhere in the middle and make it happen. Becton's return is not as smooth, and Zach is getting torched in practice to the point where I am worried he may get hurt in preseason. I am worried about this Friday a lot. Get Duane, and let's start working him in to START on Day 1. Bring Becton in slowly after he is fully ready.
What's with all the back up talk? I would have loved to sign Moses and let Becton prove he could get back on the field
He has already had a physical but I'm not sure if a deal is set in stone yet. Sounds like they discussed a deal and laid out the parameters. Sounds like another Kwon Alexander situation but IMO JD needs to move on this one, even if it means a slight overpay.
