Most jet fans are too scared of taking a skillplayer to even CONSIDER the benefits of taking DMAC. If they had their way we'd be taking Linemen w/ our first picck for the rest of time..
I think Mcfadden will go second or third pick! Teams are leaning toward running backs to land the next Adrian perterson. We will be very lucky if he's there @ 6
... has anyone made the poll for Mcfadden, Golston, or trade up/dwn ass yet? I may have missed it, but that would give us all a chance to see what the boards views are. I don't know how to create a poll, or I would do it myself.
Folks, The three guys on this club right now, Jones, Washington and Chatman and they are more then enough RB's for this coming year. If D.Mac is there at six someone be it the Cowboys or whoever will want and need him more then the Jets will. This would be the time to do some serious horse trading. If we could swap picks for this year depending on the spot with a 4th or 3rd and then maybe pick up an extra 2 or 3 next year for our 6 spot would you folks think that's fair ? Seems this is what the Pats do, gather picks for the following year, and even parlaying those into even better pick for the year after that. No way in the world do the Jets need D-Mac he may be very good or a bust but just not a Jets need at this time. With the revamped O-line you will see a much different running game from the Jets. Last season was all about the line play, or should I say lack of play. Now I'm not saying we are going to have the biggest or the best lines in the game but we SHOULD be light years ahead of where we were last year. Remember, Mangini is all about EVERYONE doing there job to make the whole program and system work . This is why we added so may pieces this offseason, this TEAM with Mangini running the show is all about the parts working together. This is the reason no one player is more important then the next and we saw a classic example of this last year. Two bad parts on the O-line and the whole line stunk up the season. No my fellow Jets fans, it about the parts and in the RB section we have very good selection of well oiled guys ready to show why they were brought in here in the first place.
Whats the point of having a college scouting dept., spending hours developing a draft board, and even attending the NFL combine if you aren't gonna draft the best player available? I've said it once and I'll say it again....drafting the best player available is how you build depth, ccompetition and game planning flexibility which builds a winning football team. Why people are so scared of taking one player over another based solely on position and one whacky tv analyst's evaluation is beyond me. As for the signing of chapman..it appplies draftwise the same way Calvin pace does. You fill your needs in FA as best you can for mainly 2 reasons.. 1. You NEVER depend your main needs on one specific player/position in the draft b/c you never know how the board is gonna turn out. 2. So you can have flexibility to take the BPA when your pick rolls around.
You're right on that point, but thats all us fans have to go on. The scouts and pro personnel dept. have alot more info than we do. We have Mayock, Kiper, McShay, etc. Thats the info we get, so we use it. Which leads to alot of paraphrasing and mindless opinions.
I think the position of most teams is that where little separates 3 or 4 players, they will simply draft a player at a position of need. Lets just say the Jets have McFadden ranked slightly ahead of Gholston or McKelvin. They would probably draft Gholston or McKelvin because they play positions that the Jets need to fill. And obviously if the Jets have all three players rated equally, they would definitely draft Gholston or McKelvin. I highly doubt the Jets draft McFadden. Things would be different if the Jets regarded McFadden as the next coming of Tony Dorsett. They would likely be tempted to draft him ahead of other guys who play positions of need. However, I dont think any teams regard McFadden as the "next coming". Thats why some people are projecting him to fall outside of the top 10- Concerns with his fumbling, outside running style and character issues
