Maybe Petty isn't the answer, but I don't think you can say that off of less than a half of playing, especially when the rest of the team around him has given up. And if Petty isn't ready, how could Hackenburg be? Even these last four games may not really be a true indication of how Petty can play, given how poorly the team's attitude is, and how many have obviously given up. He should've been put in a few games ago when it was clear to everyone - except Bowles! - that the season was over. And if you're complaining about Petty's reads and throws, are you saying that Fitzpatrick was better? Because from what I saw, Fitz, a veteran, who has had the benefit of first team reps, and a play book tailored to his (limited) skill set, was terrible! Why can't you give Petty a little room to at least show us that he's not the answer before we condemn him?
Judging him after he has had most of the snaps in practice and has a chance to prepare is one thing. Judging him coming in cold off the bench with little or no snaps in practice is another. Lots of players and even QBs struggle at first. Hell, Fitz still does only one read before the snap and then chucks it and he's been playing in the NFL for what, 11 years? Give Petty some time. He may wind up being a bust, but it's way too soon to determine that.
Yup. That is why he is being given the next four games. Lets see what he can do! I wanted the Jets to draft him, and it makes me more excited to watch. But he has been extremely underwhelming thus far.
Anybody hear what Fitzgarbage said after the game? When asked if he could understand why the Jets would got to Petty because of the big picture he replied "Well, for me, when it comes to the big picture I don't care about that." Talk about a disgrace. This piece of crap should be cut TODAY.
Maybe not, but at least I would pretend to care for the benefit of a coach and GM who supported me far longer than I had any right to expect. Athletes are supposed to have some self-respect, but obviously this clown has none. He is the stupidest Harvard grad I've ever seen, and I'm not just saying that because I went to Yale!
The days of team 1st are over, especially with greedy fucks like Shitz, keeps us strung out all off season and gets what he demanded, a fuckin' joke, then proceeds to be the worst QB in the NFL
Re:Shell --- the rookie lets up a preseason sack 3+ months ago & is forever banished to the bench? Not much opportunity for development.
Petty has been here since last year and he still can't read NFL defenses. He may think he can read them on Madden but in the real world he sucks. Next!
Sure it should be! Wonder why guys who can do it are so damned hard to find? When you do find a guy who can make reads, like Penny or Fitz, they don't have the arm to use that information. When you find guys with the arm, like Sanchez or Geno, they can't make the reads. It's not just the Jets, either-- the only teams that don't have this problem are the handful of teams that have found their guy.
Lets not forget he trashed this entire organization publicly. His ass should have been benched if not cut right then and there. You know damn well BB wouldn't have put up with a mediocre journeyman talking shit like that to the press. The team thought it had no options so they stayed with him and it didn't pay off. Now that Shitz is at the end of the road, now he DGAF. Must be the money...
I agree. If i'm Mac, heads are rollin today. After watching film I'd cut Fitz today (no dead money next year), Revis (yes dead money, but a real chance they cut him later anyway), bench Wilkerson for that horrid effort. Show the league where the line is and that mediocrity will no longer be tolerated by the team.
