You really can never be too sure but it is safe to say that this team from a talent standpoint has a much higher ceiling and floor.
could someone please tell me how to stop getting constant emails if you do ill tell you the big secret to our success this year that no one has mentioned
Lol. I think you put your cursor over your name, upper right hand corner, click on 'alert preferences'
Ok Debbie downer . The teAm last year was essentially the same as the one that went 8-8 the year prior. Last year was a failure to coach and a failure to manage the roster. And don't give me the secondary argument year over year. Essentially was the same. Cromartie was rolling on a bum hip. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Our defense could be absolutely sick! An every down pass rushing LB and a ballhawk FS and we will be top 3, provided we don't lose anybody in our front, due to any unforeseen circumstances. Our offensive line scares me on offense, and needs to be addressed more so than worrying about having a QB named GENO OR FRITZ. A speedy slashing 3 down RB would also help, although Ivory has been great. I picked 9-10 due to an easier schedule, and our defense looking like it won't ever give up more than 10-15 points per game regardless of opponent next season. Last year no one could run on us. This season good luck to any team playing our defense. No running, and now, no throwing. Field goals, and returns may be the only way to score on us.
Any other year, any other circumstances, I'd be bouncing off the fucking walls with excitement. But every time I look at the roster and try to get happy, my eyes drift towards the QB position...Geno...Fitzpatrick. So long as that's the crap that'll be lining up under center next season, IMO our ceiling is 8 wins. I DESPERATELY want to be wrong. I'd love for this team to go 10-6/11-5 and actually win some of those close losses against good teams they've tortured us with. But on a scale of 1-10 my confidence in Geno is somewhere in the negative 30s, and I honestly don't get what people see in Fitz.
That's exactly what I'm talking about...I'd be positively stunned if he could even do that for us. I look upthread and I see people expecting 10+ wins with Fitz. That's vastly overestimating his abilites even as a "game manager" IMO. But that's easy for me to say in March, while still in a slightly pessimistic mood. We shall see.
Oh, I'm not saying he's going to perform at even the "game manager" type level, but he does have the potential to do so. Expecting anything more than that is unrealistic.
Personally I look at it like this. We went 4-12 last year. Now how many of the games we lost, would we have won if we had the players that we have now acquired, which is essentially an entire secondary, and a true Top 25 receiver unlike Harvin who is just a big name gadget player. Packers - No chance that Jordy Nelson goes off on us like that with Revis covering him. We would have won. Bears - 50/50 chance we win. Geno really threw this one away but our corners would have given Cutler fits, and instead Cutler played mistake free football. Lions - Again, we didn't stop anything Stafford did at all. You are not going to win when the opponent throws for 8.7 yards per attempt. 50/50 chance we win. Chargers - Lose no matter what. Broncos - Most likely lose, but it would have been MUCH closer. Patriots - We would have beat them both times. Geno wasn't the reason we lost, we lost because our CB's were horrible and Brady just destroyed them. Buffalo - Still Lose both KC - Still Lose Miami - I actually think we would have swept them. A few big plays by Marshall could have swung the 1st game easily. Vikings - Bridgewater would not have done anything close to what he did with our CB's now. I can honestly say with Revis, Cro, Skrine, and Marshall we would have been no worse then 9-7 or 10-6. Geno takes alot of heat but he wasn't the one letting every single QB we faced have nearly perfect QB ratings and being last in the NFL in interceptions on defense. With our easier schedule next year too I see the floor as 7 wins and ceiling at about 11. Alot will depend on too how well or poorly Bowles coaching staff coaches. The staff last year could easily be blamed for atleast 3 games.
Yeah alot of Jet fans are really overestimating who Fitz is. If he was that good it would have taken more then a 7th rounder next year to get him, and the Texans wouldn't have dumped him so quickly. He went 6-6 last year on a team with a really good defense, which doesn't sound too bad, but when you consider that 5 of those 6 wins were against the Jags twice, Titans twice, and Raiders, it's really not that impressive. Hell, Geno was able to beat the Raiders and Titans last year. His stats from last year are also REALLY overinflated because of that game against the Titans where he threw 6 TD's and had a 99.6 passer rating. Take that game out and he had 11 TD's and 8 Int's over the course of 10 games, which is only a little better with Geno, with the difference being Fitz has been in the league for 11 years and Geno had been around for 2. As a backup I have no problem with Fitz, especially if Mariotta or Geno shits all over themselves, but if the plan is to start him, then the Jets either think they will have the greatest defense in history, or they are just trying to make the team mediocre to keep the fans content.
I think out defense alone will keep us in it. As long as we have competant QB play, we will be a playoff team.
Good points. I remember him in Buffalo playing against us. He had his good times and bad against us, but Buffalo always gives us hell, and if I remember correctly his teams were defense heavy like ours.
I hope Chan turns Geno into the pass happy technician he was in his last college season. Damn lets hire his old QB coach, and trade for Tavon Austin. Geno may be MVP! If we had half the stats in a QB that Geno put up then, it would be safe to say we would be BOWL contenders with the defense we have on paper. For any of this dream to happen, our O-line must be addressed first. Otherwise, no matter who the QB is, he will be running for his life or rushing passes into coverage for the sake of getting rid of it. If we had an A plus line, Ivory could reach 1,000-1,500 yards, and drastically help whomever plays QB this season. If we draft Mariota, don't think him or our staff won't rely on Ivory ( or a RB we may draft )to relieve some of the pressure our line gives up.
