I think an interesting candidate would have been Chris Simms. TB doesn't need him, and at the right price might have been willing to trade him. He would have been better than Chad, and if Clemens doesn't pan out he would hold the fort better than Chad.

Chad doesn't "deserve" anything but a car service to the airport.

And no one would have lauded anyone picking up Chad this off season, which is pretty much why no one tried to get him.

Chris Simms, Daute Culpepper who has a better carer passer rating than Chad since that is the claim to fame Penny has or even David Carr for that matter!

Culpepper signed with Green Bay and David Carr signed with the Giants.

If David Carr ever signed to play with the Jets I'd get his jersey, even if he's the emergency QB. I don't care how bad he's been in the NFL, he's still one of my favorite players of all-time.

It will be interesting to see where Chris Simms ends up though.

No one tried to get Chad because he wasn't free. And because the Jets wouldn't have dumped him off for a fifth-round pick and a bag of chips. Before anyone gets excited about Chris Simms or Daunte "I've been around the league and no wants me" Culpepper, remember that a QB is a huge gamble. Chad's a safe bet...mediocre to bad, but the devil you know is a heck of a lot better than the devil you don't when it comes to insurance policies. See the career of David Carr for more details.

They're basing all this "recklessness" and "desperation" from Hess's day:

The Saints biggest improvement two years ago was at the QB position. If Clemens steps up we may be in the same position.
