Adam Schefter@AdamSchefter 6m6 minutes ago Patriots not picking up $20 million option in Darrelle Revis' contract; now set to become free agent Tuesday.
I disagree with parts and agree with some things. So far, I'm almost totally unimpressed with the job Mac has done. I liked the trade for the WR. If he's seriously thinking about Revis, then he's nuts. The same goes for Iupati. Iupati is the most expensive OG on the market and sucks in pass protection. We aren't running the "ground and pound" so Iupati will not be a very good fit. IMO Franklin was the best FA OG, followed by Boling, even Carpenter would be a better choice than Iupati at OG. At CB, I wanted Jackson. Can't believe the Jets wimped out on that one and didn't even make a contract offer. I like Culliver's play, but not off-field issues, but at this point, I'll take him 100x over Revis. We don't have a legit FS on the roster. I don't care that he played FS in college, he was awful at it last year with the Jets. Unless Bowles thinks he can fix Pryor, I really think his best position in the NFL is SS. That suits his skill set better imo. It didn't appear that the Jets had any interest in McCourty, which makes no sense to me. I haven't seen that they've shown any interest in any of the other FA FSs, either. If true, I think that's a mistake, unless they're waiting and going to opt for one of the second tier FSs. Fitzpatrick will make me happy at QB. I really didn't want Harris back, but I guess it was their best option. At RB, Powell should be back and I'd like to see them add Spiller
Where did you see that the Jets went after Franklin? I've seen nothing reported to that effect. The only thing I've seen regarding an OG is that the Jets are going hard after Iupati. If he's choosing to play elsewhere, good. I never wanted him. He sucks at pass blocking and isn't what we need.
I think it's a little early for that. While I'm a little puzzled and disappointed, maybe even a little frustrated, as several others have pointed out that we can't make players come here. I would add also that the media may not know whom all the Jets have contacted, had interest in, and/or pursued. For now, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. The Jets could still add Culliver, Cary Williams or Cro, Boling, and either Kendrick Lewis or Louis Delmas, either Sam Acho or Brooks Reed or even Jabal Sheard, and Fitzpatrick and not only have had a great FA period, but also vastly improved the team. Even if they are unable to sign a bunch of other FAs, I'm not going to kill Mac yet. While FA is important, the draft is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT. FA he doesn't have a lot of control over. He can try to woo players and offer them generous deals to come here, but if they want to play on a team that is a competitor for the Lombardi Trophy or stay where they are, there's not much he can do about that. The draft, he has more control over in terms of whom he actually picks and any trades he makes up or down. It may take a season or two for the Jets to become a desired landing spot in FA. Woody probably needs to show that he can shut up and keep his nose out of things and allow Mac to do his job. Then Mac needs to do an excellent job with the draft, and Bowles and CS have to do a good job developing the young players and have the team playing solid, smart, tough, competitive football. If they can do that, then FAs will want to start coming here.
We have four draft picks in the first four rounds. Even counting on a third or fourth rounder to start is a stretch. How about we spend a little of our free cap space and go into the draft with less than a dozen holes for a change?
Cowboys fans were sure hating life when they signed ex-49er Super Bowl champ Deion Sanders, mercenary
That's a solid argument, Milo. I still wouldn't want to put that money towards a money driven CB, who is on the decline, someone who has already won a Superbowl with this fanbases most hated team and is all about the money. He is a business man, who's to say he doesn't go for one last cash in and take it easy after he makes all that money? He's ready won the big one, he's probably going to be a HoF CB one day as is, will he still have the same motivations if he comes back? I will be honest as well, I'm a little biased because of how he turned coat with the Patsies and won a Superbowl with them. Still, I am not an emotional fan, I am a thinking fan and I think I make some valid points.
I saw something that said Jets were in mix for Franklin, although it's word that's coming now that he's already committed to SD.
Cap hell is a serious problem that we need to be careful about. With that being said, sitting on $40 mil while the top 25 free agents go to other teams is a fast track to mediocrity.
