If they're afraid of the challenge then I don't want them as our GM. Look, this is the biggest sports market in the world. The Jets are in total disarray right now. If a potential GM candidate has faith in his own abilities this is an ideal situation. Think of it this way. You're hired as the new GM of New England. The best you can hope for is status quo; you're not going to improve that team much. But if the performance diminishes, say after Brady retires, then the new GM will get the blame. With the Jets there is nowhere to go but up. Any confident GM candidate should look at this job and see he can be a hero and really move to the top of the NFL front office ranks by fixing this mess. If I had the qualifications I'd jump all over this opportunity.
how great of a story would it be if we won the Superbowl at home next year, NFL Films presents " The 2013 Jets The Team No one Wanted"
Rich Cimini will be like 'I KNEW the Jets had it in them to win' or some such bullshit. When we win it all, I'm going to look back at all of the media idiots and laugh...
We haven't had a hard time finding a GM at all. Its easy finding a GM - finding the RIGHT GM is the key. Hell we could have hired the first person we interviewed. So thats a completely retarded statement which has come to typify the idiotic and laughably naive perspective of some fans. Its literally amazing to me how hilariously out of touch some people are. Woody Johnson is a highly successful Billionaire owner who fired Mr. T and hired Jed Hughes who is Vice Chair of Korn/Ferry INternational to spearhead the process of assessing the Jets organizational needs and reviewing the qualifications of numerous candidates. Jed Hughes has an extensive background in football and is also one of the most highly respected and well regarded leaders in Senior Level professional search executives and organizational analysts. Hughes is working through his process and executing an assessment plan in order to assist Mr. Johnson and the Jets in finding the best long term for the organization. Hughes is not going to run around holding press conferences and discussing personnel matters w/the press which as usual is totally clueless as to what is actually going on. It is outstanding that Woody has taken these steps to work through a structured and organized process to achieve the business objective. Woody is doing this absolutely the correct way and the fans are incapable of grasping this simple fact are simply immature, unsophisticated, totally clueless about how mutli-billion dollar corporations operate or are just deliberately being darksider jackasses. Its insane that the same nuts who attack the jets for being a "circus" are now getting their panties all knotted up when the Jets go through a well thought out, deliberate and methodical process to find the ideal candidate for GM. We've had numerous candidates interview for the position and we've been working through that process. Its an excellent sign that Woody hired Jed Hughes and the Jets have been taking their own sweet time in terms of assessing candidates and working through a deliberative process to find the ideal candidate. Very Very smart move by Woody and totally hilarious that some fans are incapable of understanding that hiring a GM is not a race and that the idea is not to run out the door and hire the first front office exec you find who seems to know how to run a football team - there is alot more to it than that if you want to make a good selection for the long term - interviewing lots of candidates is absolutely a GREAT thing to do. There is no reason to be in any rush at all. Relax.
In My Opinion Maybe they don't want to join a dysfunctional organization where the owner and HC have too much say in personnel decisions. They're over the cap and the players with the biggest contracts can't be gotten rid of. With little control and not many options to meaningfully improve the team there is a lot of down side risk.
Totally correct. Its an awesome opportunity and one of the best jobs in the NFL. Its also a big challenge. If somebody is afraid of that then have absolutely no business even interviewing for the position. That is part of why it is an excellent idea for Woody to opted to take a little bit of extra time and to invest in Jed Hughes and Korn/Ferry to set up an ideal process for finding a great match for the Jets. Its a great Fng Job with a great organization in the greatest sports market on the earth.
In a competition when there isn't a draft and picking order the ability to get good people is always a race. There are 32 NFL teams if someone is really good you aren't the only one looking. If you don't know the candidates before you fired your own people you are already behind in the process. If there is someone good enough to make the Jets a SB contender there is another owner willing to step into the breach and hire him.
i would say its pretty much inferred that its the posters opinion unless he gives credit to someone else. although people do need to be reminded often that they need to look at things objectively and not just simply tell everyone what htey want to happen.
And your opinion is based upon absolutely NOTHING !!! Because you have no idea what the process and the plan is that Jed Hughes has been working through for the past few weeks. Certainly anybody that is too stupid to manage a premier a NFL organization with world class facilities and talent should not apply. Certainly anybody that is too much of a loser or a pussy to take on some business challenges and have the guts & brains to prevail should not apply. But in fact the Jets have had DOZENS of people applying and submitting resumes and being interviewed..... Therefore your opinion is based upon absolutely nothing. :breakdance::breakdance:
It's unrealistically of me to expect an intelligent discussion where people respond to each other's opinions.
TOTALLY WRONG. That is the absolutely incorrect way to approach making any significant senior executive hiring decision. Its not a race at all. The teams that race out to hire whomever the latest hot gm is - invariably wind up failing in a large percentage of the cases - those teams will be back out there again in 3-4 season and repeating the cycle of failure. If somebody is really good thats great. But that doesn't mean they are really good for your organization which is why you need to go through a process of assessment and evaluation - which is yet again why its not a fkng race to see which team can make a hiring decision faster. That is simply an idiotic way to approach hiring a GM. Being the fastest to hire usually means you made a bad business decision and/or overpaid. So what? There are multiple potential candidates who are more than talented enough to help lead the Jets into SB contention. That is why you don't act like a desperate sailor w/blue balls on a 24 hr shore leave. That is why you don't run onto the new car lot like some dumb hayseed offering to pay sticker for the first shiny jalopy that catches your eye. You can act that way if you like - but most likely you will catch a serious STD or wind up buying a lemon. If someone is good enough to help lead the Jets to the SB - that person is most likely to be hired after going through an organized disciplined assessment process and looking at numerous high caliber candidates in depth and comparing those candidates against the hiring criteria. Its not a race to see who can hire somebody as fast as possible - thats an absolutely crazy approach - if you need proof look no further than the hiring of richie kotite by the jets. Richie was fired in Philly on 12/26/94 and on 1/5/95 80 y.o Leon Hess fired pete carroll and immediately hired rich kotite because Leon "wants results now" One of the worst decisions ever in NFL history was made far too quickly and w/o any assessment process - the predictable result was a that the Jets sucked for several more seasons. Hiring Decisions are not a race to see who makes the fastest hiring decision- the idea is to make the smartest decision - and that rarely if ever means rushing into it.
i'm not mad at all homeslice - i'm LMAO !!! Why u keep thinking peeps are "mad" LOL. Mad??? hahahahaha :beer::beer:
I think he means that you're crazy. A lot of crazy people are very happy and laugh all the time.
" In my opinion " this is a good post  ps maybe someone should start a " IN MY OPINION " thread
That's why you and I and everyone else on this forum is going to be rooting for the Ravens on Sunday. The nice clean organized approach to getting your organization in line for the owner. Leon Hess basically never gave a shit about making money, having a stadium or putting a wining team on the field. When he got older he decided he would like to see his team win. After hiring Kotite he realized having a guy around who he liked and trusted and thought was a good football man meant nothing because he wasn't qualified to make the pick. What Leon did was looked around the league and decided to steal his entire football operations from a successful competitor. It wasn't a clean search done by guys in suits it was a heist. Bob Kraft, the single most successful owner in the league stole it back while Woody was celebrating his good fortune on becoming an NFL owner. We aren't filling middle management positions at some huge multi-national we need a killer owner to kill one of his competitors and take their young.
