I think the defense has underperformed this year but I don't get why Idzik would tell Rex who his defensive assistants should be. Isn't Rex the defensive guru?
?? How can you possibly think they have underperformed? The offense consistently puts them in terrible positions. THey have a weak secondary and horrible coverage LB's and are on the cusp of another top 10 D.
Our defense is loaded with talent and former first round picks including 3 in the secondary (not including Reed) and Rex Ryan is supposed to be a great defensive coach. I hold him to high standards and expect a top 5 defense out of him. We have a slightly above average defense.
I'm all in with this opinion as well. It explains a lot too. Why established GM candidates passed on the Jets or weren't chosen. Why Idzik CAN'T fire Rex no matter what and in fact, is GM-INO. What it doesn't explain is why Woody doesn't simply make Rex the GM and bypass all this bullshit. Go figure... Woody is trying to be Jerry Jones on the down low. Woody needed a puppet GM and Idzik fit the bill to a T. No prior experience at the GM position therefore no cred when it comes to personnel decisions. Just do what you're told and be happy you got the job.. Oh well, such is life with the Jets. The more things change, the more bizarre things become. Go Jets...
Hey, didn't you get the memo that Rex is God's gift to coaching..? Woody worships Rex and at the end of the day, that's all that matters..
I was just talking with my buddy about this and Jerry Jones is the exact name that came up. Woody really is doing his best Jerry impersonation and the way you described Idzik's role makes perfect sense. I believe this to be true. Oh well, it won't surprise me in the least if we're all here one year from today talking about the same issues. Life as a Jets fan. :drunk:
There are a few things about Rex that drive me insane..insane. With that said..no matter what happens in the 4th quarter..and this is based on the total season..there is no way you can not bring the guy back..no way. It would be a crime. You have to tip your hat to the job he did with this team this year. Will save negatives for the offseason but this was a very solid coaching job.
There is no drama with the team, no in-fighting, the team has performed way above the level of talent on this team (we were ranked #32 by the experts at the start of the seasons) and despite an almost complete lack of serious talent on the offense we were pretty much a single loss away from the playoffs Anyone that is laying all the teams issues on the coach or thinks we would do better just because of a change in the coaching staff at this stage of the season is either trolling, or beyond my understanding.
I agree. A few weeks ago, I was very much leaning the other way. Now, you have to extend him. You just have to.
Anyone still think this man needs to be fired? It is pretty obvious that this guy is one awesome coach. 8 wins with the team we had was a pipe dream. He made it a reality. Extend this man and give him offensive talent Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
They shouldn't even try to wrangle him into making changes on his staff if he doesn't want to make them. If they try to pull a power play on him and he says no, is Idzik going to fire him then?
First time in a while Rex's team finished the year strong. Would look like the decision was made a lot earlier if Rex gets fired tomorrow.
