That's what I'd like to believe. So far I'm VERY impressed with how Idzik has handled things. But then again, I trusted Tanny often as well. Soooooo.... I'll reserve judgement
Graves joined Ari in 1997 Cards: 1920-1996: 5 playoff apps, 1 playoff win Cards 1997-2012: 3 playoff apps, 5 playoff wins, 1 SB app I have no idea how much he was responsible for w/ regards to them winning but there's no doubt Ari had their best run of success in franchise history over the last 15 years.
good thing he isnt being hired as the g.m. but the fact of the matter is,if guys are available its because they were fired at some point.so you can look at his track record as g.m. and call him a bum or look back past that and see why he got hired in the first place.he had to do something to make arizona want him as g.m. and if idzick brings hin on at that same capacity why wouldnt it be a good thing?
I kind of lost track... what front office positions have been opened so far? Assistant GM - Scott Cohen (not evey team has an assistant GM, I wonder if one will be hired) Director of Football Operations - Ari Nissim Assistant Director of Player Personnel - JoJo Wooden Assistant Director of College Scouting - Marc Davis Area Scout(s) - Kevin Kelly, Joe Bommarito (scouted Richardson & G. Smith respectively)
Idzik is bringing in his own guys. The fact he was considered good enough to get a GM job in the past should be a good thing, though it doesn't necessarily mean anything. Bill Callahan was a good OL coach despite being a bad head coach. Tony Sparano was a bad OC despite being a head coach in the past. No fan knows exactly what role each front office person plays, or just how qualified/good they are at their jobs.
More than likely Asst GM ... It'll be interesting to see what his role will be under Idzik if the reports are true.
I love the offseason. It's the time of year when we can get worked up over who is brought in as an assistant to the GM. Who gives a crap????
It is a bit harsh if someone is actually good at their job and are basically getting fired because the new boss wants to bring in "his guys" - as fans we tend to forget that these are real people with mortgages, families, commitments etc Unless its some guy that has made millions and can take care of themselves, I cant say I enjoy reading about anyone getting sacked from their job. Imagine how you would feel if you got a new head of department and he just came up to you and said (doing best impression of the boss from Office Space) "yeah, I want to bring in my mate as he really "gets it", so yeah, if you could just clear your desk then that would be great"
If you believe strongly in building a consensus and in having decisions made after a lot of vetting by the staff then the first thing to do is build a good staff. Idzik has worked with Graves and knows his strengths.
unlikely since Rex is in charge of the coaching staff, is under contract through 2014, will likely be extended by Woody directly and since any coaching staff changes would be up to Rex not Idz.
No need to imagine it. This happens all the time in the real world. Get a new department head from outside the organization - update your resume and contact your head hunters b/c frequently a new department head brings in his/her own people. There is nothing unusual about it in the NFL or anywhere else in business - in fact its very common.
Usually not - most teams are structured with separate folk in charge of pro and college players. these people report to the head cheese in charge of player personnel.
Oh ok thanks... because on some websites it says we have a director of college scouting and a director of pro personnel while on others it says one for college scouting and one for player personnel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_National_Football_League_staffs#New_York_Jets PS It's no big deal, I was just curious.
