yeah, no shit...... that stats for stats thing is too much, especially one's that are purely judgemental. this isn't baseball.
Lucky you. I'll be 40 in 2 months and I'm yet to see them even play in a Super Bowl. The Jets also win their division every 10-12 years or so. Minus a Super Bowl, you are a fan in the Jets Golden Era. Hopefully we win a SB soon my friend. Keep being a fan.
Try being a 12 year old kid who just moved to SFL that summer (from LI) and sitting in the cheap seats of the Orange Bowl decked out in green & white (including face paint... c'mon I was 12) only to watch the 45-3 massacre in person..... and Dad thought getting tickets to see the JETS would be a great treat to a pair of 12 & 9 year home-sick old boys :shit:
There are two reasons alone that the Jets are on the right path right now and even Tanny has to get in with some kudos..even if he sucked for the most part. 1. Defensive line...it makes Rex look even better and its what wins games...and wins big games..period. All of those picks were brilliant. Not only the picks but puttting so much attention on that part of the team..its brilliant. They make good linebackers very good...make average safeties good...make good cbs very good. 2. Smith and MM. For years we have been screaming at the top of our lungs that you have to stretch the field whether its long or slants. The days of the 3 yard Sanchez/Sparano/Schotty slant have moved 10 yards down the field. Having a qb that can create IF NEEDED is a huge plus. And the biggest reason this team can maybe get over the hump and surprise other than the obvious givens (great defense etc) this year and I said it in preseason is HILL...he is the true wild card. Talent out the ass and the drops will lessen year by year. This kid is a physical freak.
Yes the D line is beast and Rex is given a lot of credit for the early success, but don't forget Karl Dunbar. Dude is the best D line coach in the biz and it's showing with even such a young group.
These reporters need Jets to be victorious (playoff bound) or an epic failure (4-12), thats how they make their money. The articles and commentary on Jets this week have been down right laughable (when you factor that ESPN had Jets last place in the power rankings). You should be able to tell they dont genuinely care about the Jets. They got you all excited and talking, thats what they want. But If Jets become an 8-8 these reporters lose money big time.
good point...lets face it..the kids on this line are playing 2...3 years ahead of their time. Richardson, when drafted, was a guy that many thought could be special because of one thing that is so rare in lineman and thats a motor that goes every play at high speed. You cant teach that. When someone posted the YouTube college video he had that intangible. Rare to say the least. Its a great line and a guy like Coples, who was known to take off a play or two cant get away with that on this team. These guys chase every play. Its the thing that will allow Geno to be a rookie at times and still allow the team to compete in probably 90 % of their games. While so much praise was thrown at guys like Devito etc, these guys were great against the run because they controlled the line of scrimmage against the run but that was it...the line of scrimmage. No penetration at all. Most importantly, it allows Rex not to throw the kitchen sink every play. I still think Rex is getting used to that and reverting back to old form from habit with this team by sending too many guys in crucial times of the game. The last play against the Bills was a perfect example of 4th and long and we blitzed everyone and left AC one on one and thankfully Manuel threw the ball out of bounds. Rex will blitz less eventually with cbs and safeties..he doesnt need to do that much anymore. The new crew are guys that live and thrive to be in the backfield which makes them something special now...and the true catalyst to keep this team formidable for the next 5 years at least.
Couldn't imagine myself not being a Jets fan. One day we'll be able to get a SB win. Out of our front 7. Harris seems to be the only old starter. Being that Pace is maybe just a stop-gap. This offseason we lock up Mo, hoping we learned from the Revis bandaid contract. Seems to me every offseason we can lock up someone Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
hey thanks for the article ESPN. now go fuck yourselves you gossip mongering HACKS. "NY Jets: worst team in football 2013" - espn. This off season has pissed me off more than any other, I will never forget. Most of the mainstream sports media figures have lost all credibility in my eyes. At worst they are just headline chasing blowhards, at best they are like sports themed clowns that can make me laugh every now and then.
Like we saw it last year..the defensive line along with changes at the linebacker position was bringing much more speed to the defense which many in the media should have thought would allow a very good defensive coach in Rex to make the defense at least very solid. I mean..thats the medias job..not ours. All of this bullshit about how the Jets had not one playmaker on offense. Nobody here was saying this was the Saints offense or the Patriots offense at their peak but not even including Holmes into the picture...the Jets Kerley and Hill showed promise to at least give the Jets offense average or a step below at minimum. This "they are basically a very good college team" attitude that the press put out there is enough to make any Jet fan really pissed to hear that bullshit all offseason. Nobody knows how good or bad this team will end up but after playing the likes of the Bucs and the Bills..ranking this team dead last was just flat out copycat horrible journalism...lazy journalism...easy journalism. I would never have gone on record guaranteeing this team to be a top 20 team even though many of us thought with a few ifs...it could easily happen...but to rank this team dead last with some of the dog teams in the NFL? Im with you on the pissed off-ness.
I couldn't have stated this any better. A Jet fan since '67, I've been thru TOO many "teasers & pleasers" caused by early season success only to be depressingly, let down. However, I am elated at the fact that our Jets have a HUGE upside in several categories; regardless whatever the outcome this season produces. A young & extremely talented D (featuring the FRONT 4 DOGS) that can only - barring injuries - grow to ridiculous standards & an OL that's slowly but steadily rounding into a cohesive unit in run/pass-blocking schemes. Lastly, a rookie qb that CAN improve - provided a continual learned approach to the elimination of mistakes - to heights unseen. I'm not sold YET on the 2nd'ary; Milliner has not shown any of the "natural" cover skills he displayed in college (tho' holding out & several injuries have hampered his progress) & KWilson is a "nightmare" in man-2-man cover (IMHO, he's only useful as a nickle). I like the "Wall" of Darrin's footwork/anticipation skills as he def'ly shows promise. Dawan Landry & Antonio Allen has yet to establish capable pass cvrage but are both hard-hitters; only time will tell if this unit can click. With the exception of Kerley & Holmes ('specially Santonio; whose rec'ving skills border on the ridiculous), I reserve judgement on SHill's value as a quality WR until he can maintain "on-point", dependable hand skills over a several game stretch (tho' he does possess the size, talent & speed to succeed). Gates s/b "locked" & "closed" 4 good. Run game? Bilal has shown what 1 can do if "blessed" w. an adequate OL & a modicum of power/cutback ability & Ivory's gave us a glimpse of what speed can do. Goodson? QUESTION MARK. This game vs Tenn is important. 1/4th of the season will be completed & should offer us Jet fans an idea of where we stand. If we show improvement on both sides of the ball............''Nuff said!
Drafting Smith allowing the opportunity to remove the worst starting QB in the NFL from the field in 2013 and hopefully from the Jets FOREVER in 2014
I actually was going to post something similar. Also Stephen Hill, Austin Howard, Bilal Powell and dare I say Ducasse have all been playing solid as well. But that doesn't change the fact that he traded for Tebow and went all out killing our salary cap and trading picks away. But gotta give credit where it is due. Playoff talk needs to be put on the back burner to at least after the bye. Right now just get to 3-1, it sounds a hell of a lot better than 2-2.
How about cleaning up penalties and turnovers, you can give me all the acronyms in the world they mean nothing! Football has been and always will be about TO, and playing a sound game, the talent on both sides of the ball will determine the rest. That's the reason why the Pats have stayed so consistent, mistake free football. Everyone else in the AFC east either is not talented or makes too many mistakes to be a contender. The jets have shown that they can stay in games with the talent they have, however If they clean up their TO and penalties, can they pull out victories? The trend I'm going to pay attention too with the Jets is penalties, TO and good game management by Rex. If those things improve as the year goes on they can be very good, if they don't, .500 or below for the year.
The Jets probably have 10 penalties last Sunday if Willie Colon doesn't hit an official at the end of the Pats game...
