It doesn't matter how well he plays. He's either getting cut or taking a significant pay cut next year. He's due 8.25 million next year plus 1 million in March. Not gonna happen.

On a side trivia note.....Santonio Holmes was drafted between D'Brick and Mangold!

If he leads our WRs and makes the top 10 for WR production, he'll get that money. Of course that's a huge IF. According to some of the players, Holmes has been hyped up and can't wait to get back on the field. If he continues to work with the young guys and we see more big improvements from the likes of Hill & Gates, it will show his value on that end as well. We need Holmes, for more than 1 reason. I don't want to see him rush back, but when he does come back, it will be HUGE for the team.

  4. Holmes would have to have a monster year to be back at his current contract figures set for next year. An aging #2 WR coming off major foot surgery isn't gonna get #1 money past age 30 on a young team like the Jets.

Jets can use that money to lock up Kerley,Gates & Spadola(if he pans out). Also bare in mind this coming draft is LOADED w/ first round WR prospects. Jets could easily have that elusive big intermediate possession receiver fall into their laps.

fuck him, put him on the pup and dont let him play until WE are ready. He wont be showcasing his skills for any other team this year and will be cut after this season. If this is what he wants, make sure he gets it, all of it.

    Its all or nothing Santonio

  8. Call me skeptical but I'm not sure I believe the report. After all, the media may have an axe to grind based on Holmes inconsistent statements to them all offseason.

Why would the Jets continue to have trainers working him if he's beyond the rehab? Why would the jets continue to have his back in the media?

It just seems like a very one sided story w/ some important data missing from the mix

RGIII, jamaal charles, and AP all tear their ACLs and some MCLs and come back earlier than santonio. does that even make sense?

He won't be on the roster next year anyway we have a lot of young guys that are ready to take his spot. But if healthy he can help this team win.

I can see where you are comming and I do agree that the media may have an axe to grind, but remember a few things.

    1) Homles has a history of taking plays off and is all about himself
    2) He will most likley be cut this off-season regarless
    3) The Jets signed another reciever directly after this report surfaced
    4) Of course its a one sided story, Holmes has no intention to play unil he a good and ready. Only he knows when that is and will sit back and collect his $ unilt he decides he wants to play (not a good team 1st mentality)

  12. All good points. But Let's remember that he has to be aware that he'll be cut next off season. If he wants to keep playing it's in his best interest to play ASAP. Secondly, let's also remember he did take a pay cut this offseason. If he just wanted the cash he would've called the Jets bluff, taken the pink slip & cashed out.

Holmes contract was the spark that lead to the downfall of Mike Tannenbaum. Still cant believe he thought Holmes was more valuable than Edwards at the time.

It's not necessairlly in his best interest to play ASAP. If your are looking at it from a selfish players standpoint, all he has to do is show he is healthy for maybe the last half of the season to prove he is worth another relatively big contract.

He was more valuable than Edwards at the time.

  16. To be fair...Holmes has been the better & more productive player since that timeframe. Jet fans may still like Edwards better but the FILM/Stats say otherwise.

As for the contract. It's "damned if you do/damned if you don't" scenario. Holmes is a dynamic # 2 type WR. Those guys want to be paid like #1's. When we had a pure #2 who was paid like one(Cotchery) npeople were saying we needed to get more dynamic at that spot. You want playmakers you either have to draft them or overpay for them.It is what it is.

Exactly, he could be ready to go and has been deemed so by his foot DR. HE wont however unitil he is 100% sure. AT that point he will be kicking off the rust for 2-4 games and then show flashes the next 8-6 games to get a new deal next year. Its just who he is and always will be, a me first guy who has/had all the ability in the world to be a great reciever.

If he would have played this way he would have never had to worry about his contract, teams would have been lining up at the door like they do in his contract years.

Yes it does actually. The knee ligament tears are easy to predict how they heal. The recovery time does not vary too much.

Th lisfranc injury can vary greatly in terms of severity and recovery time. Don't forget, Holmes' injury was the most severe and required a second surgery in February to remove screws.
