They built for this year but they are building for tomorrow as well. There is alot of young talent on this team, obviously what happens with the QB position when Favre decides to move on is the key to how good we remain but most of the talent on this team is young.
its not so much all in, because these guys will be here for 3 more years or more. its about replacing them to continuing to do well. The next step is finding a QB who can command this team for 8-12 years. Thats the next step. And this team is perfect for a kid to step in with. It has a dominant defense and a veteran offense that can help him through the growing pains.
The "monkey in the wrench" is actually finding a QB in the draft who would fit that bill....for every Matt Ryan there's a JaMarcus Russell in the draft. Who should the Jets target?...I'm assuming that Favre will call it quits after this season (if not..great!..hopefully the team will know for sure before the draft)...is there anybody in the upcoming draft worth investing a first or 2nd rounder for?
I was all about Ryan, but knew he wasn't going to be around. So I was a Gholston fan. But Sam Bradford is the guy I want this year, but he won't be around because he'll be taken before we even get close to our turn. It'll be another 2-4th round guy. I think if the Jets select a QB in the 4th round, he'll be a gem, just like all the other 4th round gems, but he'll be a pro-bowl snub, just like all the others.
with all due respect, i don't really think that tanny and mangini really wanted favre and the expectations that came with it. i think it was woody and his psl's who made that move. same with the money given to both tanny and mangini but well spent by both. and the silly arguement about shaun rodgers needs to stop. 26th against run vs. 3 or 4 that we are is nonsense. you run the 34 to stop the run and we are doing, they aren't.
I really hope so, he already knows the system. He's played with the players. He showed some veteran intangibles in pre-season games. In a vacuum, meaning forget about the level of talent he played against, he showed signs of what a QB should be doing in the pocket and at the line of scrimmage. I rooted for him pre-Favre to be the starting QB over Chad and Clemens, and I still stand that way today.
I'm not sure i agree with this....Tanny was pretty dilligent in his recruitment of Favre...and seemed very exciting during the press conference when they announced Favre's arrival. Although, i do agree with the PSL aspect of what you're saying....but i think Tanny/Mangini were aboard this train from the get-go. Mangini got tired of watching Clemens/Penny floundering around during TC.
This was a huge problem that had to be remedied. I remember not wanting either to start in TC because I was tired of the arguments plaguing this board. Favre being here as quieted the mess for the most part, and gave a clear answer at QB. Gave. A. Clear. Answer. At. QB. That can't be stressed enough. Pre-Favre was hell in TC. Everyone needs to remember that.
I think that Favre and the PSL's were just a coincidence. I do not think the Jets really wanted to go into the season with Chad or Kellen. All the Free Agent additions made the Jets prepare to contend for a Playoff Berth. Getting Brett increased the expectations from playoff also rans to getting Deep into the Plaoffs. That is why this NE game is so important. Either we are going to take the division and solidify ourselves as Super Bowl contenders....OR as usual make the playoffs, lose a road game and look to next year.
I have heard it speculated that Mangini was not completely on board, but not about Tanny. Without his diligent pursuit of the deal it would not have happened, by all accounts.
My mistake about the timing of the Cohen hiring, I thought it had been March and not May. And I never credited him for the drafting. But the fact is that Tanny has had Bradway with him across the hall helping make decisions and as soon as Bradway leaves, Cohen comes in. Fact. Bradway said as much on the official site.
The PSL auction has already happened. Maybe that's what they were aiming to sell. Although it seems like it was an utter failure.
