We've been over this 1000X but ok--because (i) you're simply parroting what you heard from all the draft experts (as opposed to what real GMs ultimately decided he was and (ii) IMHO he was never a first round talent--I saw him a ton at WVU and much of the hype about him being the first pick in the draft or a first rounder or the runaway Heisman winner was when he was mauling the likes of Marshall and Baylor and James Madison (who knew James Madison played football?). He wasn't anywhere near as good as his numbers--his yardage and TD stats were way over-inflated based upon a very high number of screens or shovel passes (that count as passes but were really handoffs)--basically passes at or behind the line of scrimmage to guys like Austin and Bailey who would take them for 70, 80, 90 yard TDs. He was never a first round talent regardless of what you hope or want to believe. He was a second rounder. Great value but he's not who you thought he was. It was all pre-draft hype. _
Again, this is what I HAVE SEEN, I am not using draft experts - stop assuming - this is the 2nd time I have mentioned this to you in a span of 10 minutes. The playbook Derek Carr had (whom we both like as a prospect) was eerily similar to Geno's in WVU. Screen-passes, plays out of the shotgun, and passes down the field. So you can't sit here and hate on Geno when Carr virtually ran the same offense (and you love Carr). His stats were "inflated" to an extent as well. I guess Geno's performance in the Orange Bowl where he shredded Clemson did absolutely nothing for his stock. Geno in 2011 was easily one of the better collegiate QBs. I was a huge fan of Geno in 2011, but his ending in 2012 wasn't as good as I thought which turned me off on Geno. You aren't the only one who watches college football. Contrary to what you believe, he was a first round prospect but fell because he did not perform in the Senior Bowl. That's my story and I am sticking to it. We got good value for Geno in the 2nd round.
Stick to it, but it's wrong. And if you think Geno and Derek Carr were the same QBs because of the offense they ran, then you're doubly wrong. He was never a first rounder, that was just draft guru hype that you're continuing to parrot--simply draft hype from draft rags or dudes on TV or internet blogs. He had workouts AFTER he missed the Senior Bowl so him missing it is silly and a complete nonesensical excuse--if he was truly a first rounder no one would have put any credence in that decision. He was good against Clemson but maybe you missed his awful last collegiate game against an awful Syracuse team? End of the day, he got drafted where he should have been drafted--in the second round. I get it, you're one of those guys that thinks we got the number 1 prospect in the draft at 39. _
You do realize I said, I wasn't a fan of how Geno performed at the end of the 2012 season right? I don't think you read my post. He was a first rounder regardless of what you think - again I believe he took some shitty advice and he paid for it. Workouts aren't as good IMO as the Senior Bowl practices where you play against good competition and the coaches can critique you a lot more against your peers. Look at AJ McCarron and him skipping the Senior Bowl. That was only the beginning of his drop. We got good value for Geno in the 2nd round. I wouldn't have taken him in the first because that draft I wanted to develop the offense more with weapons and offensive lineman. Then looked at a QB in the 2013 draft. I think Geno is a better prospect then EJ Manuel no doubt about it.
To paraphrase Bill Parcells, your draft status is where you are picked, not where some internet poster thinks you should have been picked (higher) after the poster's favorite team picks him. Of course any such poster can say that HE would have picked the player higher. And NFL teams can be wrong about prospects, of course. But draft status? It is where you are picked. Not where someone thinks you SHOULD have been picked. And as far as why someone is picked where they are, we can speculate in regard to particular cases. But that speculation again does not change that you are picked where you are picke.d
Because you read that on a blog or a draft magazine or heard it on TV. And you just made my point for me. NO ONE in the real NFL thought Geno was ever a first rounder. You want proof of that? I'm sure you know who Doug Marrone is- he's not a blogger, not an iternet draft guru, doesn't shill for a magazine, not on TV. He's a REAL NFL coach. He coached against Geno three times in college, watched all his tape, game planned against him, beat him badly three times. If ANYONE knew Geno coming out of college, it's Doug Marrone. When it came time for him to draft his FRANCHISE QB when he got to the Bills, did he take Geno who you think was a first round talent or did he take a guy you think is WORSE than Geno? Who are we to believe, Internet draft gurus and bloggers and you or a guy who's very livelihood depends on his choice of QBs? NO ONE THOUGHT Geno was a first rounder, never was. That's why everyone passed on him and a team with the worst QB situation in the league, the Jets, passed on him twice and never bothered to trade up to get him. But you keep clinging to your draft magazines and blogs and hopes. _
I don't think anyone is arguing this. I do see that this appears to be pointed at me, but this has nothing to do with the discussion. Parcells wasn't the best drafter either. My God, you absolutely have issues comprehending. Doug Marrone is so good at shutting Geno Smith down, that he allowed 300+ passing yards to Geno in the first match-up (last season, not college). Peyton never beat FL, so I guess Peyton should have dropped in the draft because 1 team found out a way to beat one of the better collegiate QBs. Your argument is stupid. His decision-making should have been questioned when they drafted EJ Manuel in the first round, then the next draft proceeded to trade a crap-ton of picks for Watkins. Marrone may have been successful against WVU, but that doesn't make him the smartest man in the room. Your opinion is as credible as Chris Broussard's sources. All the hate, came after the Senior Bowl. You didn't hear jack-shit about Geno being a 2nd round QB. Teams at the end of the day, may regret passing on Geno if he lives up to his potential. We got good value on him in the 2nd. Again, I thought he was a middle to end of the first round prospect. You act as though a good QB prospect has never fallen in the draft. The best QBs in league history weren't taken #1 overall. So this is a bullshit argument.
Again thank you for confirming my suspicions. "You didn't hear jack shit" is code-speak for "the draft gurus and Internet bloggers had no idea what real GMs and coaches were thinking". Thanks. No real NFL people ever thought he was a first round talent. All of that came from faux draft "experts". _
And I guess all NFL GM's thought Tebow was a 1st round QB? Despite those "draft gurus" thinking he wasn't?
None of that has any logical or rational relation to the discussion at hand. Caution what arguments you deem stupid. And again, you'd be wrong. _
Aaaahhh the Geno fanboi shows up. You probably weren't watching football yet, but no one thought Tebow was a first round talent except McDaniel and, well, you know how that turned out, right? Or maybe you don't. _
Lol, and you are the expert? YEAHHH OK. You sir are not a professional, neither am I. I go by what I see and what good scouts say about Geno. 2011 was an excellent season for Geno. The TD to INT ratio was very impressive that year, and show-cased a lot of talent and a huge arm. 2012 he was good until the last quarter or so of the season. Unfortunately he made a big mistake in regards to skipping the Senior Bowl, that hurt his stock. As a player you are out here advertising yourself to 31 NFL teams. Skipping big events like the Senior Bowl can damage your reputation and your stock. Just admit you can't stand Geno Smith. You have nothing positive to say about him, that's unfortunate.
lol at the bold. I really laughed at that in real life. Your logic is if no one drafts a player in the first round that means that no NFL GM thought they were a first round talent.
I have plenty good to say about him but no one other than fake Internet draft gurus and hopeful Jet fans ever thought of him as a first rounder. You can continue to fight it but it's the truth. Where was he drafted? In a year when so many teams needed QBs? Why didn't anyone move up to grab him. Your Senior Bowl excuse is a nice crutch but you know it and I know it is bullshit. He had plenty of private workouts to regain his "first round status". Maybe folks saw the inflated production but didn't see the football IQ. The guy may be a stud someday, but no one looked at him as such last year. _
Not QBs that fake draft gurus like some folks here think was the "first pick of the draft". If you want to lol. _
